The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is built around two screen formats: a 5.5-inch cover display for quick, phone-style use and a 7.6-inch, 4:3 main display for a broader view when unfolded. Samsung pairs those displays with a 4,800 mAh battery and claims up to 26 hours of video playback—but that figure is a manufacturer maximum, not a promise of all-day runtime for every user.
Two screen shapes serve different kinds of content
Samsung’s approach is to match the display to the phone’s posture rather than make one screen do everything. Closed, the Fold8’s 5.5-inch cover screen has a 10:16 ratio, which Samsung positions for messaging, browsing, social feeds and short-form video. Open, its 7.6-inch main display uses a 4:3 ratio intended for movies, e-books, reading and gaming. The fit still depends on the content’s aspect ratio and how an app adapts to the screen.

Samsung specifies anti-reflection treatment and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits for the main display. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Samsung Business Insights’ Hannah Trott calls the portrait display “a digital library in your hand”—Samsung’s description of the format, rather than an independent assessment.

Multitasking depends on the app
The unfolded display provides room to use more than one app at a time. Samsung describes Side-by-Side Multi Window as a way to view supported apps together, but its feature notes limit the function to select applications. Do not assume every app can be opened in split view; actual availability depends on app compatibility.
Samsung identifies the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy as the Fold8’s processor and says its CPU, GPU and NPU support performance, visuals and AI features. That is the manufacturer’s description of the hardware’s role, not independent evidence of specific gaming frame rates, streaming quality or multitasking performance. Battery capacity and Samsung’s video-playback claim
Samsung lists a 4,800 mAh battery and claims up to 26 hours of video playback. “Up to” describes a maximum claim; Samsung’s cited materials do not provide a complete test protocol in the available excerpts, and no independent real-world endurance result is established here. Actual runtime will depend on how the phone is used, including screen and app activity.
That makes the 26-hour figure useful as Samsung’s stated video-playback ceiling, not as a guarantee that the Fold8 will last a full day—or any fixed amount of time—for every owner. The battery specification and claim appear on Samsung’s product page and in Samsung Mobile Press’ overview.

What the Fold8’s design adds—and what the claims establish
The core design choice is a phone-sized cover screen for quick interactions and a wider, 4:3 unfolded display for reading and other content. Samsung’s specifications explain that intended use, while its processor and battery descriptions set out the capabilities it claims. They do not, on their own, establish how well every app adapts, what performance users will see, or how long the battery lasts in everyday use.
Samsung announced sales beginning August 7, 2026, in select markets, with global expansion. Availability and timing can differ by market; see Samsung Newsroom’s launch announcement for its announcement details.
