The acquisition closed on October 6, 2026, and the combined company is named Skydance. Warner Bros. Games and Skydance’s game-development businesses are both included in its portfolio, but the closing announcements do not confirm changes to studios, projects, release dates, or support for games already out. For players, the key distinction is between shared ownership—which is confirmed—and specific game decisions, which still need title-by-title announcements.
What the deal establishes about the games businesses
Warner Bros. Games is part of the combined portfolio
The Associated Press’s closing-day overview lists Warner Bros. Games and Skydance’s game-development businesses under video games. That confirms both businesses are in the portfolio; it does not establish that they have been combined into one studio, reorganized, or placed under a particular leadership structure.

Paramount had already announced a games organization
Before the Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition closed, Paramount announced Paramount Games Studio on June 5, 2026. The company described it as unifying Paramount and Skydance gaming studios, named Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media as development teams, and presented games as a core content pillar. That announcement describes the organization before closing, not how Warner Bros. Games will be integrated afterward.

What the combined franchise portfolio could mean for games
The combined portfolio includes game-relevant properties such as Harry Potter, DC characters including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, Game of Thrones, SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Looney Tunes, according to the Associated Press’s closing-day overview. Skydance’s closing announcement also names Game of Thrones, Mission: Impossible, Harry Potter, Top Gun, the DC Universe, and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Common ownership could make it easier to coordinate game licensing, marketing, or plans that span games and other entertainment. That is a business possibility, not an announced Warner Bros. Games strategy. A shared owner does not by itself confirm a new game, crossover, sequel, remake, or change to an existing release.
What is known about games already announced
Paramount Games Studio’s June 5 announcement named two projects:
Rank #2
- Iconic Monkeybomb Design: This officially licensed Call of Duty collectible features the legendary Monkey Bomb character rendered as a detailed 8.5 in tall gaming accessory that expresses your passion for the franchise
- Dual-Purpose Controller Holder: Heavy-duty PVC construction with a sturdy base securely holds gaming controllers, smartphones, and devices without tipping, combining functional organization with display appeal
- Universal Device Compatibility: Grips most gaming controllers including PlayStation 5 DualSense and Xbox Series S/X, plus iPhones, Android phones, TV remotes, and eBook readers for complete desk organization

- Premium Gaming Desk Accessory: Transforms any gaming setup into a professional space while keeping your devices within reach, perfect for streamers, competitive players, and collectors who value quality
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin was described as a console and PC action-adventure game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Paramount Games.
- Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game was described as a PC game, with other platforms to come.
Those are pre-closing descriptions. Without a newer announcement from the company, publisher, or developer, they do not establish that either game’s status changed because of the acquisition. The sources reviewed do not provide title-by-title updates on release windows, platforms, teams, or ongoing support for Warner Bros. Games projects.
What the deal does not tell players about games already released
The closing announcement discusses plans outside gaming: streaming services are expected to unify into one service over time, and the company committed to at least 30 theatrical films annually, each with a minimum 45-day theatrical window. Those company-wide streaming and film statements do not specify changes to game storefronts, online services, release plans, or post-launch support.

So far, no title-specific decision in the reviewed announcements establishes that a released game will lose support, be delisted, or receive an update because of the acquisition. An existing game remains a separate product with its own publisher, platform availability, and support information; check the game’s official channels for a decision about that title rather than inferring one from the change in ownership.

- Look for a direct announcement. A dated statement from the company, studio, publisher, or developer is stronger evidence of a game change than a franchise appearing in a portfolio list.
- Check who is doing what. A rights owner, developer, and publisher can be different entities. For example, Paramount Games named PlatinumGames as developer and Paramount Games as publisher of The Last Ronin.
- Separate a project announcement from a release update. A named game does not establish its current release window, platform list, or post-launch plans unless those details are stated in a current announcement.
- Read each claim in its proper context. The U.S. Department of Justice’s June 2026 statement addressed streaming, linear television, and theatrical film markets; it should not be treated as an assessment of competition in video games.
The most important open questions are whether Warner Bros. Games will have a new post-close structure, whether any studio or staffing changes will be announced, and what happens to active projects and their support plans. The closing-day portfolio information does not answer those questions.
