OFC listed New Zealand 85th in the world, 66 places ahead of second-ranked New Caledonia. New Zealand also won the 2026 World Cup qualifying final, securing Oceania’s direct place at the tournament.
Those are two different measures: FIFA ranking positions are a dated snapshot, while qualifying results show what teams achieved in one competition. The June ranking list should not be treated as a complete October 2026 table.

How do the All Whites rank against other Oceania teams?
OFC’s 15 June 2026 comparison lists 11 men’s senior national teams, ordered below by their FIFA positions as reported by OFC. New Zealand leads the region; New Caledonia is second, and Solomon Islands is third.

The 66-place gap between New Zealand and New Caledonia makes the All Whites the clear leader in this particular global ranking snapshot. The numbers are FIFA ranking positions reproduced in OFC’s regional list, not a separate OFC rating system. OFC’s 15 June 2026 report provides the dated comparison.

What does FIFA’s later update say about New Zealand?
FIFA’s New Zealand ranking page identifies 20 July 2026 as the latest official update and lists 86th as the team’s historical highlight. That differs from the 85th-place position in OFC’s June table. The figures refer to different update points and should not be blended into a single ranking.
FIFA notes that the live ranking shown on its page is unofficial until matches are approved as international A matches. Its page names 7 October 2026 as the next update, so it does not establish the exact October positions of all Oceania teams. FIFA’s New Zealand ranking page is the place to check its team-specific update.

How did Oceania’s teams perform in 2026 World Cup qualifying?
The expanded 48-team World Cup gave OFC a direct qualifying place for the first time in the 2026 edition. The regional process had three stages: a first round for the four lowest-ranked teams, a second round with eight teams in two groups, and a final stage of semifinals and a final. The runner-up advanced to the intercontinental playoff. OFC’s competition overview describes the format.

Group stage
New Zealand won Group B with three wins from three, scoring 19 goals and conceding one. Tahiti finished second in the group and advanced. In Group A, New Caledonia finished top with seven points, while Fiji placed second with five. Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea finished third and fourth in that group.

Semifinals and final
New Zealand beat Fiji 7–0 in the semifinal, while New Caledonia beat Tahiti 3–0. In the final, New Zealand defeated New Caledonia 3–0 to claim the direct World Cup place. New Caledonia, as runner-up, went to the intercontinental playoff and lost to Jamaica. OFC’s qualifying coverage reports the campaign results.
The results show New Zealand’s dominance in this qualifying campaign, but they do not by themselves settle broader or longer-term comparisons of team strength. New Caledonia also topped its group and reached the final; Fiji and Tahiti made the semifinals.

OFC’s 15 June report recorded two contrasting sets of warm-up results. New Zealand lost 4–0 to Haiti and 1–0 to England. Vanuatu beat Fiji 2–1 in the first of two home friendlies, then the teams drew 2–2. These dated matches offer context on form, but they are not substitutes for the ranking snapshot or the World Cup qualifying record. OFC’s June report covers those friendlies.
