The proposals attributed to him include large question banks, AI-generated papers on exam day and wider computer-based testing—but reports describe proposals, not proven or leak-proof solutions.
What did Nandan Nilekani propose?
A PTI report carried by Rediff on 13 October 2026 said Nilekani, identified as an Infosys co-founder and head of an examination-reform task force, called for a systematic use of technology to address paper leaks. The headline’s wording should not be treated as a verified verbatim quote: the available coverage does not provide a full transcript. Rediff’s report describes the position in broad terms.

Other reports provide more detail. NDTV attributes to Nilekani a proposal for massive question banks, while Moneycontrol reports proposals for AI-generated question papers on the day of an examination and wider computer-based testing. These are ideas reported in coverage, not independently evaluated outcomes. NDTV’s report and Moneycontrol’s report discuss those proposals.
How might these measures reduce opportunities for leaks?
Large, regularly refreshed question banks
A validated bank can let an exam authority assemble different papers rather than rely on one complete paper circulating in advance. Business Standard describes a proposal to generate unique papers with comparable difficulty and syllabus coverage. That balance matters: reducing advance access is not useful if candidates face materially unequal tests. A bank also creates a valuable target, so its integrity, refresh rate and access controls would matter as much as its size. Business Standard’s explainer discusses this approach.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
AI-generated papers on exam day
Generating a paper close to the test could shorten the period in which a finished paper is exposed to unauthorized access. That benefit depends on the full process: who can access the source questions, how generation is controlled and audited, and whether the resulting papers remain comparable in difficulty and syllabus coverage. The reporting presents this as a proposal; it does not establish that AI generation has prevented leaks in practice.
Computer-based testing
Wider computer-based testing could reduce reliance on printing and transporting physical papers, but it shifts security demands to the digital delivery chain, devices, exam centres and identity checks. It is a change in the attack surface, not a guarantee against compromise. Moneycontrol reports the proposal as part of a broader effort to reduce leaks and fraud.

Why would technology need to be part of a wider security process?
Exam security involves more than the moment a candidate opens a paper. Mint describes approaches under consideration such as encrypted digital delivery, biometric verification and AI monitoring. It also reports a specific safeguard for the NEET-UG re-examination: question setters were kept in secure facilities without phones, internet or outside communication until the examination concluded. That is a reported measure for that examination, not evidence that all exams use the same controls. Mint’s explainer covers these examples.

The reporting places the task force in the wake of the NEET-UG 2024 controversy. Business Standard also cites leak incidents involving NEET-UG 2024 and CBSE 2018 in its historical framing. The available coverage does not establish the task force’s final recommendations, a selected vendor or a measured effect from the proposed technologies. Nor does it provide a verified original-publisher statistic for leak prevalence or intervention effectiveness. Rediff’s PTI report and Business Standard’s explainer provide the reported context.
