It is tied to the same unusual growth path that makes Jinwoo unlike other hunters. As the anime currently establishes it, the important distinction is structural: Jinwoo’s personal development and his command over shadow soldiers are connected.

The anime description does not provide a universal maximum army size, a complete list of battlefield rules, or a numerical ranking against characters from unrelated franchises. Growth is part of the power design
Most hunters in the premise awaken with abilities and ranks that do not change. Jinwoo can level up and improve through battle. That creates a built-in relationship between his own progression and the force he leads. A comparison therefore has to ask not only, “How many soldiers are available now?” but also, “What happens as the commander continues to develop?”
The anime source supports that broad relationship, but not a complete mathematical model. It does not establish a universal cap, a fixed rate of recruitment, or a number that can be placed beside every other character’s army. Those details should not be invented to make a neat leaderboard.
Command versus simple summoning
The phrase “Shadow Army” can make the power sound like a conventional creature-summoning spell. The anime description is more specific: Jinwoo commands shadow soldiers as the Shadow Monarch. That wording puts authority and organization at the center of the ability. It is therefore more useful to compare him with commanders and faction leaders than with characters who produce one temporary familiar for a single attack.
How the Overlord model differs
Ainz as ruler of Nazarick
Overlord offers a different leadership model. Its official character material presents Ainz as the ruler of Nazarick. That is an institutional position: his influence is connected to a realm and its inhabitants, not only to a personal job-change system. The existence of a court, territory, or organization changes the question from “How does one fighter summon troops?” to “How does a ruler direct a powerful faction?”

Entoma as a specialist controller
The same official character page describes Entoma as someone who summons and commands insects. She is a useful contrast because her ability is presented as specialized creature control. Her power illustrates that “summoner” can describe a focused toolkit rather than a monarch’s army.
That distinction does not establish who would win against Jinwoo. It establishes a different acquisition and control method. Jinwoo’s authority is explicitly tied to the Shadow Monarch job. Entoma’s official description emphasizes insect summoning and command. The source does not provide matched figures for duration, unit count, battlefield range, or victory conditions.
What the comparison can and cannot say
Under the criteria above, Jinwoo is the clearer example of a progression-linked army commander. Ainz represents ruler-led forces, while Entoma represents specialist control. These categories may overlap in a fictional battle, but they are not interchangeable mechanics. A scene-by-scene debate would need specified anime episodes, preparation time, starting resources, knowledge of the opponent, and rules for abilities from each universe.

Leader and nation-builder
The official That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime franchise portal describes Rimuru as the leader of the Jura-Tempest Federation and an awakened true demon lord. This places him in a broad leader-and-nation-building category. His authority is not described in the cited material as one detailed summon mechanic equivalent to Jinwoo’s Shadow Monarch job.

Why a federation is not automatically a summon army
A nation can contain allies, citizens, administrators, and military forces without every member being a summoned unit. Treating Rimuru’s federation as a direct equivalent to Jinwoo’s Shadow Army would erase the distinction between political leadership and supernatural summoning. The official description supports Rimuru’s leadership and demon-lord status; it does not, by itself, enumerate a summon-by-summon system that can be scored against Jinwoo’s soldiers.
For a careful comparison, classify Rimuru as a leader whose power operates at both personal and societal levels, then identify which specific anime ability or force is being discussed. Without that narrower definition, “Rimuru versus Jinwoo’s army” is not one question but several different matchups.
Anime, novel, comic, and game versions are not interchangeable
The animated continuity
The official Solo Leveling anime description is sufficient to establish Jinwoo’s exceptional leveling ability and his Shadow Monarch job. It is not a complete rulebook for every version of the story. If an argument relies on a later novel or comic development, name that version and avoid presenting the detail as something the anime has already confirmed.
Solo Leveling: ARISE is a game system

The distinction is visible in updates as well: a 2026 Netmarble update raised the game’s level cap from 150 to 160. That number describes the game’s progression system, not a confirmed anime limit or a statistic for ranking Jinwoo against Ainz or Rimuru.
Why version labels matter
Cross-series debates often combine an anime depiction of one character with a novel, comic, or game depiction of another. That produces an apparently precise answer built from mismatched rules. A defensible article or discussion should state “anime Jinwoo,” “anime Ainz,” or another exact version before discussing powers, then keep every feat and limitation inside that scope.

Those are category conclusions, not a win-loss ranking. A practical method for comparing any two summoners
- Fix the continuity. Write down the exact anime season, film, novel, comic, or game version for each character.
- Define the force. Decide whether you are comparing a named army, one creature-control ability, a faction, or a nation’s military.
- Separate commander and followers. Record what the summoner can do personally and what the controlled units contribute.
- Check persistence rules. Look for confirmed information about duration, replenishment, losses, range, and resource costs. If the source does not state one, mark it as unknown.
- Compare progression. Ask whether the character improves through battle, receives a job or class, gains authority through status, or uses a fixed ability.
- Set the battle conditions. Specify terrain, preparation time, starting forces, information, allies, and the meaning of victory.
- Report uncertainty. Distinguish an established fact from an inference and avoid turning an unquantified ability into a precise statistic.
What readers should take away
Jinwoo’s Shadow Army stands out less because the anime supplies a proven maximum number and more because of how the power is integrated into his story. He is the hunter who can continue leveling up, and the Shadow Monarch job gives that exceptional progression a command function. His army is therefore part of a character-development system.
Overlord supplies two useful contrasts: Ainz is presented as a ruler of Nazarick, while Entoma exemplifies specialist insect summoning and control.
