Union Bank of Colombo PLC says it has replaced its legacy, offshore-hosted credit card environment with BPC SmartVista, a unified payment platform. Announced on 28 September 2026, the upgrade is intended to give the Sri Lankan bank more control over card products, data and integrations. Union Bank said the credit card business now runs on BPC SmartVista instead of a legacy environment hosted outside Sri Lanka. FinTech Futures separately reported on 2 October 2026 that SmartVista would be used to issue and manage the bank’s credit cards. Why did Union Bank make the change?
The bank says taking greater ownership of the technology and data behind its card business should give it more operational control, reduce reliance on third parties and help it respond more flexibly to market demand. Malinda Perera, Vice President – Head of Cards & Retail Products, described ownership as necessary to build a stronger credit card business. Union Bank says the platform is configurable so the bank can adapt to changing business requirements and bring forward new card products and services. CTO Nisala Kodippili said the environment can be adapted “without lengthy development cycles.” The release does not provide a development-time comparison or other quantified implementation results. Support security and fraud protection
The bank says the upgrade enables stronger transaction security and integrated fraud protection. Union Bank says it plans to expand card-issuing capabilities, broaden international scheme support and introduce new customer propositions as the business grows.
