Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSky Q satellite TV follows a simple route: a dish feed connects to the Sky Q box, and an HDMI cable carries the box’s picture and sound to your television. Broadband is separate: it enables many connected features, but live satellite TV and recordings can still work without it.
How the signal gets from the dish to your TV
- The dish receives the satellite signal. A low-noise block downconverter (LNB) at the dish supplies the signal to the household cable or cables.
- The cable feeds the Sky Q receiver. The receiver demodulates the satellite feed and provides the menus, channel guide, recordings and playback interface. Sky lists DVB-S/S2 demodulation and two satellite inputs for its 1TB UHD receiver; those specifications should not be assumed to apply to every Sky Q model. Sky’s receiver specifications describe model-specific capabilities.
- HDMI connects the receiver to the television. The TV displays the picture and plays the audio selected through the Sky Q box. Sky’s connection guidance covers the dish-cable and HDMI connections.
The exact cabling depends on the receiver and installation. Sky Q can use a dSCR-fed cable or two wideband signal cables. In a wideband installation, the Digital TV Group handbook specifies a range of 290–2340 MHz carried by each cable. These are documented compatible arrangements, not a description of wiring in every home. The DTG handbook provides the installation context.

What the dish does—and what broadband does
The dish feed provides satellite television. Broadband supports connected services, including apps and many on-demand and interactive features; it is not a substitute for the satellite feed.
Sky says live TV and recordings remain available even if a Sky Q box has never connected to broadband. If a previously connected box loses its internet connection, some on-demand material may still be available through the dish, but other on-demand content, apps and interactive features may be unavailable or limited. Sky distinguishes these cases in its guidance for Sky Q without an internet connection. So an internet outage does not necessarily stop the box from showing live satellite channels or playing recordings.

What you need for more than one room
For Sky Q Multiscreen, Sky says each television needs its own Sky box. A Sky Q Mini is the additional-room device for Sky Q customers and requires the relevant subscription or Sky Q experience. Sky Q Mini does not support UHD. Check Sky’s Sky Q Mini information and your current subscription terms before planning a multiroom setup.
What determines whether Sky Q can show UHD?
UHD depends on the receiver, television, HDMI connection and subscription—not just on having a satellite dish. Sky’s UHD guidance lists these requirements:
Rank #2
- 1 Piece Universal Infrared Remote Control for Sky Q Box TV Set Top Box - URC-168001-00R00 New Remote Control
- Wireless communication: IR
- Use: TV
- A Sky Q 1TB UHD or 2TB UHD box.
- Qualifying HD and Ultra HD add-ons or the Sky Q experience pack.
- An UHD television that supports 3840 × 2160 at 50 frames per second and HDCP 2.2.
- The specified Sky HDMI 2.0 cable.
Sky does not support UHD on a Sky Q Mini. Its UHD requirements are tied to specific receiver models and subscription eligibility, so confirm the current terms and your box’s exact model rather than applying one model’s specifications to the whole Sky Q range.

How to check a connection or plan a setup
- Identify the box model. Check its model details before relying on a specification such as UHD support or satellite-input count.
- Trace the cables. Confirm that the dish cable or cables reach the Sky Q receiver and that HDMI runs from the receiver to the TV. Sky’s setup instructions cover the physical connections.
- Check the feed arrangement. A communal or specialist installation may use a dSCR/SCR system, while another setup may use two wideband cables. Do not assume the wiring is identical in every property.
- Check the feature requirements separately. For UHD, verify receiver, TV, HDMI and subscription compatibility. For another room, confirm that you have the required Sky box and Multiscreen eligibility.
If the issue appears to involve dish alignment, the LNB, cabling or signal setup, the equipment path points to those components rather than broadband. Sky’s setup materials cover connection arrangements, but they do not establish that every signal fault has the same cause.
