Galaxy Z Fold gestures depend on what you’re trying to do, which screen you’re using, and your One UI version. Back, Home, and Recents are system-navigation gestures; split-screen and pop-up swipes are optional multitasking controls; App Continuity and Flex mode handle screen transitions and partly folded use. Menu names and feature support can vary by model, carrier, software, and app.
How to use Back, Home, and Recents
First check your software version at Settings > Display > Navigation bar. Samsung’s instructions distinguish the navigation gestures in One UI 6.0 from those in One UI 6.1 and later.

One UI 6.1 and later
- Back: Swipe inward from either side edge of the screen.
- Home: Swipe up from the bottom edge.
- Recents: Swipe up from the bottom edge and hold.
Samsung says gesture hints are unavailable with this navigation layout. You can adjust gesture sensitivity under the Navigation bar’s More options. On the main screen, the navigation bar can be positioned left, center, or right; if the Taskbar is on, Samsung limits the choice to left or right. See Samsung’s Navigation bar instructions for the current options.
One UI 6.0
Samsung’s One UI 6.0 layout uses three bottom-edge zones: swipe up from the left zone for Recents, the center for Home, and the right for Back. If the gesture you expect does not work, check the version and selected navigation layout rather than assuming the cover and main screens use different system commands.

How to open two apps with a swipe
Multitasking gestures are separate from Back, Home, and Recents. Samsung documents the following swipe controls for the Galaxy Z Fold7; do not assume the same controls or screen availability on every Z Fold model.
- Open Settings > Advanced features > Multi window.
- Turn on Swipe for split screen to enable the split-screen gestures.
- In an app, swipe up from the bottom with two fingers to move it into split screen. To place it on a particular side, swipe inward from the left or right edge with two fingers.
- To use a floating window instead, turn on Swipe for pop-up view in the same Multi window settings. Then swipe down from either top corner toward the middle with one finger.
On the Fold7, Samsung describes these gestures for either screen. Its general Multi window guide says split-screen and pop-up view are not supported on the front screen of Fold series devices. Because Samsung’s instructions differ in scope, check the guidance for your exact model and installed software instead of treating front-screen multitasking as universal. Some apps also do not support split screen. You can also open the Edge panel by swiping left from its handle on the right side, then drag an app to an edge for split screen or toward the center for a pop-up window. See Samsung’s Fold7 cover and main screen tips and Samsung’s Multi window guide.

Why gestures and apps can behave differently across screens
The cover and main screens have separate screen layouts, so unfolding does not guarantee that every app or Home-screen item will behave as if nothing changed. Samsung lets you choose which cover-screen apps continue when you unfold the phone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Go to Settings > Display > Continue apps on cover screen.
- Select the apps you want to continue on the main screen after unfolding.
Unsupported or unselected apps may close during the transition, and some apps may not fully support continuity. Home-screen items may also need to be added to both screens unless mirroring is enabled. Samsung identifies Home-screen mirroring support on Galaxy Z Fold3 through Fold7. Details are in Samsung’s guide to using a Galaxy foldable open or closed.

What the Flex mode touchpad does
Flex mode is a separate interaction mode, not another Back or multitasking swipe. When the phone is partly folded, a supported app can appear above while controls appear in the lower part of the screen. In apps that support the Flex mode panel, the lower area can act as a touchpad: drag a finger there to move a cursor over the app and tap to select. Availability depends on the device and app. Samsung explains the feature in its Flex mode guide.
