Trade credits are not necessarily cash you can withdraw, and an account’s portfolio value is not necessarily its withdrawable balance. The exact rules depend on the platform, account type, and offer. Kalshi’s current help pages provide a useful example: in its Predictions account, displayed credit is nonwithdrawable and already included in cash; separate rules apply to its Perpetuals promotions and referral credits.
What does trade credit mean?
“Trade credit” is not a standard promise that a platform has put spendable, withdrawable cash into your account. It may refer to a promotional balance, a referral reward, or a credit shown in an account summary. Read the terms for the specific offer and account: eligibility, permitted use, expiry, and what happens to any winnings can differ.

Kalshi Predictions: displayed credit
Kalshi’s portfolio guide defines the Credit amount in a Predictions portfolio as a nonwithdrawable credit balance already included in Cash. Do not add Credit to Cash when estimating the portfolio total. Kalshi also says the displayed amount is not a complete history of every credit it has issued.
Kalshi Perpetuals promotions
Perpetuals promotions have their own eligibility, qualification windows, and end dates. Kalshi says these promotional credits stay in the Perps account, cannot be transferred to Predictions, and cannot themselves be withdrawn. They may expire if unused within seven days, subject to the offer’s stated terms; winnings from trades made with the credits can be withdrawn. Check the specific promotion’s screen or email rather than applying those conditions to all Kalshi credits. See Kalshi’s Perps promotions terms.

Referral credits
Kalshi’s referral FAQ describes a separate arrangement: only profits earned using referral credits become withdrawable cash. Referral credits generally expire seven days after issuance unless the offer says otherwise. Requirements and any reward amount depend on the offer; the Rewards section shows the applicable details.
Why cash, portfolio value, and withdrawable balance differ
These figures answer different questions. Cash is not the same as the combined value of cash and open positions, and neither figure necessarily tells you how much you can withdraw now.
- Cash: the cash amount shown in the account. On Kalshi Predictions, displayed credit is already included in it.
- Portfolio value: cash plus the displayed value of positions. That position value is not guaranteed sale proceeds.
- Available to withdraw: the amount the platform currently allows you to withdraw, after considering positions, settlement, and any applicable holds or limits. Kalshi directs users to the withdrawal screen for the available amount.
An open position can rise or fall in displayed value without changing cash. To turn it into cash, you must sell it, and a buyer must be available. A sale may fill only partly or not at all; a limit sell sets the minimum price you will accept but does not guarantee execution. Only the portion that actually sells produces sale proceeds. Kalshi describes the distinction plainly: “Selling and withdrawing are separate actions.”

Fees vary by platform, market, and execution. Kalshi says it charges a transaction fee based on expected contract earnings; some markets have different fees, including some special-event markets. Its fee guidance also describes maker fees on some resting orders when they execute.
Placing an order is not the same as executing a trade. Kalshi says a fee is charged when a trade executes; canceling a resting, unfilled order does not incur a fee. Before submitting, check the fee shown for that particular market and order, and consult the platform’s current fee schedule. There is no single percentage that can be applied to every prediction market or every trade.
Why you may not be able to withdraw the full balance
An account may show cash or portfolio value that exceeds the amount currently available to withdraw. On Kalshi, money committed to open positions is unavailable until those positions close. Settled proceeds, deposits, and promotional balances may also be treated differently, so the withdrawal screen is the practical reference for the account’s current available amount.

Security holds on deposits
Kalshi says some deposits are subject to security holds before withdrawal. The maximum hold period depends on the deposit and withdrawal methods; the withdrawal screen shows the release time for the account. Its security-hold guidance says holds apply to the original deposited amount, while earnings beyond deposits may be withdrawn once settled. Funds tied up in open positions remain unavailable until those positions close.

Withdrawal method, location, and limits
Kalshi’s withdrawal help pages describe different availability and timing by method. These are Kalshi’s service statements, not guarantees about an individual bank or payment processor.
Best Value
| Method | Availability and fees | Timing and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Bank withdrawal | Kalshi says this is available to US users and charges no Kalshi withdrawal fee. | Kalshi says funds typically arrive within a few business days. Recently deposited funds may face a short security hold. |
| Debit-card withdrawal | Kalshi says it charges no withdrawal fee. Availability for US and international users depends on supported regions and processors. | Kalshi says arrival typically takes a few hours but can vary. The daily limit is personalized to the account; check the withdrawal screen for the applicable amount and timing. |
Kalshi’s method details are in its withdrawal-method guide. It does not establish a universal debit-card cap, and limits or timing can depend on the user’s account and payment route.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to check what you can actually withdraw
- Open the platform’s portfolio or account page and identify Cash, Credit, and position value as separate figures. On Kalshi Predictions, do not add displayed Credit to Cash a second time.
- Review the terms for the specific credit or promotion, including account restrictions, eligible use, expiry, and whether winnings can be withdrawn.
- Check the fee displayed for the specific market and order before submitting it; distinguish an unfilled resting order from an executed trade.
- Close or sell positions if you intend to withdraw their value, understanding that a sale depends on execution and may be partial or unavailable.
- Open the withdrawal screen, choose an available method, and confirm the amount, any hold-release date, and method-specific limit shown for your account.
Kalshi’s rules are an example, not a category-wide standard. For any platform, its current terms and the figures shown in your own account control. Rules can also differ between account types, as they do between Kalshi Predictions and Perpetuals.
