The Primebook 3 Max has a MediaTek Genio 720 platform with a dedicated NPU, but that does not make every AI feature work without internet. Offline use depends on the individual app or task: Primebook says many everyday PrimeOS tasks, installed apps and PrimeOffice work offline, while browsing and Cloud PC need a connection. Its documentation does not confirm which PrimeAGNT workflows run locally or work offline.
What does the NPU do?
An NPU, or neural processing unit, is hardware designed to accelerate certain AI workloads. When compatible software uses it, some AI computation can happen on the laptop rather than on a remote server. Primebook describes the Genio 720 in the Primebook 3 Max as having a dedicated NPU for on-device AI workloads.

Primebook’s September 23, 2026 comparison rates the Primebook 3 Max NPU at up to 9 TOPS. That is a vendor specification, not an independent performance test. It indicates stated processing capability; it does not show which apps use the NPU or how quickly a particular task will run.

Sometimes, if the particular software supports local processing and has what it needs installed. An NPU alone cannot establish that an AI feature works without a network: an app might use the NPU for one operation but rely on an online service for another. Primebook’s NPU explainer likewise distinguishes local processing from cloud AI and says offline availability depends on software support.

For specific AI features, the available Primebook documentation does not identify which PrimeAGNT functions use the Genio 720 NPU, which may be processed remotely, or which work offline. Treat their offline requirements as unconfirmed rather than assuming the NPU makes them available without a connection.
What can you use without Wi-Fi?
| Task or service | Offline status | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday PrimeOS tasks and installed apps | Many can work offline | Primebook’s FAQ says PrimeOS supports many everyday tasks and installed apps offline. Individual apps may have their own network requirements; install them before going offline. |
| PrimeOffice: PrimeDocs, PrimeSheets and PrimePresent | Primebook says it works offline | The product comparison identifies the PrimeOffice suite as offline-capable. |
| Initial setup, app downloads and updates | Internet required | Connect before setup or when you need to download apps and updates. |
| Web browsing | Internet required for online content | Offline access to previously saved material is different from browsing the web. |
| PrimeX Cloud PC | Internet required | It provides Windows and Linux environments through a cloud service, so it is not offline computing. |
| PrimeAGNT workflows | Not established | Primebook describes multi-step actions across apps, browser tabs and system settings, but does not confirm which tasks run locally or work offline. |
How to plan for offline use
- Set up while connected. Primebook lists initial setup as an internet-requiring task.
- Install apps and updates in advance. Downloads and updates need a connection, and installed-app status does not guarantee that every app feature works offline.
- Check the specific workflow. For an AI feature or third-party app, look for its own offline requirements; the NPU specification does not answer that question.
- Keep online-dependent services for when you reconnect. Web browsing and PrimeX Cloud PC require internet according to Primebook’s FAQ.
What the 9-TOPS figure does—and does not—tell you
The “up to 9 TOPS” rating is Primebook’s published specification for the Primebook 3 Max NPU, not a result from an independent benchmark. It does not establish real-world speed, battery savings, or privacy outcomes, nor does it prove that all AI features run on-device. Those conclusions require information about the particular software and task.
