Nomura is using research outreach and meetings with overseas investors to build broader relationships around Japan. The effort is part of Nomura Group’s international strategy; it should not be confused with Nomura Asset Management’s own results, and Nomura has not established that the outreach alone caused revenue growth.
What Nomura’s “Revisit Japan” effort involves
Nomura describes Revisit Japan as a program that combines research communication with visits to institutional investors overseas. The company says the aim is to encourage investment in Japan and promote its markets to global investors. Nomura says the initiative began in March 2022. Nomura’s employee interview describes the approach in the company’s words: “We encourage investment in Japan and promote the Japanese market to global investors.”

Nomura says staff heard increased interest from overseas investors, including requests from some investors to visit Japan and learn more about its economy. That is the firm’s account of investor response, not an independently measured estimate of global demand.
How much outreach Nomura reports
In a March 5, 2025 interview, Group CEO Kentaro Okuda said 44 analysts had visited 34 cities in 18 countries and regions, holding more than 1,000 one-on-one meetings with investors. These are Nomura-reported activity figures, not measures of investment flows or new revenue. Read the Nomura+ interview, “Nomura’s Business.”

Nomura also said its Japan Execution Services business recorded its strongest revenues in ten years in the preceding fiscal year. The interview does not show that Revisit Japan produced that result, so the outreach activity and the revenue outcome should be treated as related context rather than a proven cause-and-effect relationship.
Why Nomura believes Japan is drawing attention
Nomura’s investment narrative links the market’s medium- and long-term appeal to price and wage increases and the prospect of overcoming deflation. The company also points to the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s March 2023 request that listed companies manage with awareness of cost of capital and share price. These are Nomura’s reasons for presenting Japan to investors, not a guarantee that prices will rise or that companies will make the changes investors expect.
Nomura Asset Management’s older UK investor document framed Japan’s case around economic recovery, relative valuations and corporate restructuring. It included forecasts and market figures from 2009–2010, which are historical rather than current indicators. The document also warned that investment values can fall, exchange rates can affect returns, and investors may not recover the amount they invested. Okuda described Nomura’s network as connecting Japan with the Americas, EMEA, and Asia. He said the Group’s international business generated more than half of its revenues and that two-thirds of Wholesale revenue came from outside Japan. Those figures refer to Nomura Group businesses, especially Wholesale—not to Nomura Asset Management’s revenue.
The CEO also described growth ambitions in alternative private assets. He said assets under management in alternatives had tripled to 1.9 trillion yen since the Investment Management division was established in April 2021. This is an executive-reported Group Investment Management figure; it should not be read as an asset total for Nomura Asset Management alone. Okuda said, “I believe that our future growth is dependent on our efforts in the asset management alternative private asset space.”
Quick Recap
Rank #4
What the strategy does—and does not—show
- It shows an organized outreach effort: Nomura reports research-led engagement, overseas visits and one-on-one investor meetings.
- It shows the company’s Japan thesis: Nomura is emphasizing market reforms, prices, wages and a possible break from deflation as reasons to engage with Japan.
- It does not establish outreach-driven growth: The available executive account does not quantify new client relationships, investment inflows, or how much revenue the program generated.
- It is not an asset-management performance report: Group and Wholesale statistics cannot be attributed automatically to Nomura Asset Management.
