There is no verified, all-in price for a PC that matches an Xbox Series X in 2026. A PC with roughly comparable gaming capability is likely to cost more than the console, but the exact figure depends on your country, currency, the date you price the parts, and whether you buy new or used. The sources available for this article establish the console’s hardware, show one example of a lower-cost desktop build, and flag that GPU prices shift quickly. That is enough to build an honest estimate yourself, and this guide walks through how.
What you are trying to match
Microsoft’s published Series X specifications, along with its 2020 technical announcement, list the following hardware:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- CPU: a custom eight-core Zen 2 processor at 3.8 GHz, or 3.6 GHz with SMT enabled.
- GPU: a custom RDNA 2 graphics processor rated at 12 TFLOPS, with 52 compute units running at 1.825 GHz.
- Storage: a custom NVMe SSD working with the console’s Xbox Velocity Architecture.
- Platform: an integrated design with its own memory layout and software stack, tuned for the hardware.
Treat these numbers as a baseline for comparison, not as a recipe. A desktop part list cannot reproduce the console’s silicon, its unified memory arrangement, or the per-game optimization that developers apply to a fixed hardware target.
Why a parts list is not an exact equivalent
- Teraflops do not map to frame rates. The 12 TFLOPS figure describes the console GPU’s theoretical throughput. It does not predict how a PC graphics card will perform in a given game.
- Architectures differ. A desktop CPU or GPU from another generation can be faster or slower in practice, depending on the game and the settings.
- Memory and storage behave differently. Desktop RAM and a retail NVMe SSD are not interchangeable with the console’s integrated memory and custom storage path.
- Software is different. Console games run on one fixed configuration. A PC runs many drivers, operating systems, and background processes.
In practice, “equivalent” means a PC that delivers similar results in the games you care about, at the resolution, quality preset, and frame-rate target you choose. Define that target before you price anything.

A 2026 budget build as a reference point
One recent budget PC build guide uses an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 processor with a Radeon RX 7600 graphics card and lists a Kingston NV3 1TB NVMe SSD among its supporting parts. This is a useful example of a lower-cost desktop gaming path. It is not proof of Series X parity. The Ryzen 5 5600 is a six-core desktop CPU, the RX 7600 is a separate discrete GPU with its own memory, and the guide does not establish how this combination performs against the console title by title.
| Component | Example part from the cited build guide | What it contributes to the comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 5600 | Six-core desktop CPU; a different design from the console’s eight-core Zen 2 chip |
| Graphics card | AMD Radeon RX 7600 | Discrete GPU with dedicated memory; not the console’s integrated RDNA 2 design |
| Storage | Kingston NV3 1TB NVMe SSD | Retail NVMe drive; a standard PC storage option, not the console’s custom SSD |
| Motherboard, memory, power supply, case, cooler, operating system | Not stated in the cited example | Must be priced separately for any real total |
How to build your own price estimate
- Set the target. Choose the games, output resolution, quality preset, and frame-rate goal that define “comparable” for you.
- List every component. Include the motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, memory, graphics card, NVMe SSD, power supply, case, and operating system if you need to buy one. Add sales tax and shipping for your region.
- Record each price with its basis. Note the date, retailer, currency, country, and whether the item is new or used.
- Total only new retail prices. Keep used parts and one-off deals in a separate line so the headline total is not inflated by temporary offers.
- Price peripherals separately. Monitor, keyboard, mouse, and controller costs are not part of a tower total, but they do affect what you pay to play.
- Re-check before you buy. Graphics card prices can change within days, so confirm every line on the day you order.
| Line item | Example from the cited build guide | Price basis to record |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Ryzen 5 5600 | Date, retailer, country, currency, new or used |
| Graphics card | Radeon RX 7600 | Date, retailer, country, currency, new or used, and whether the price is a deal |
| Storage | Kingston NV3 1TB | Date, retailer, country, currency, new or used |
| Other components | Not stated in the cited example | Date, retailer, country, currency, new or used |
Price pressure on both sides
Console pricing
Xbox Wire announced updated worldwide console prices, effective August 1, 2026, and cited higher memory and storage costs as a reason. That date has passed, so any console price you find should be current for your region. The announcement reviewed for this article does not give a single usable local price, and the Series X configuration you compare against also affects the number. Check the current shelf price in your country before making a direct comparison.

Graphics card deals
PC Gamer’s GPU price watch lists current card deals. The article itself warns that its lowest listed prices may be one-off offers rather than typical pricing. A price that looks cheap in a deal roundup is not the same as a stable retail price, so use it as a signal to check, not as a line item without a date.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsComplete-build totals
The sources reviewed for this article do not establish a complete total for a motherboard, memory, GPU, CPU, case, power supply, storage, cooling, operating system, taxes, and peripherals. Any single figure for a full PC should be treated as a snapshot for one region and one date, not a universal price.

- Disclaimer: Maximum Speed requires overclocking/PC BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depend on system components, including motherboard and CPU
- Hand-sorted memory chips ensure high performance with generous overclocking headroom
- VENGEANCE LPX is optimized for wide compatibility with the latest Intel and AMD DDR4 motherboards
- A low-profile height of just 34mm ensures that VENGEANCE LPX even fits in most small-form-factor builds
- A solid aluminum heatspreader efficiently dissipates heat from each module so that they consistently run at high clock speeds
Comparing the two fairly
- Total cost basis: Price every core component, the operating system where applicable, and sales tax the same way for each option. State whether peripherals are excluded.
- Game performance: Compare the same games at the same resolution, quality preset, and frame-rate target. Use measured results, not spec sheets.
- Memory and storage: Recognize that the console’s integrated memory and custom storage path are not directly comparable to desktop RAM and retail SSDs.
- Price basis: Name the country, currency, date, and condition of every part, and flag special deals.
- Flexibility: A PC can be upgraded, used for work or other software, and tuned in settings. These are real value differences, but they are separate from how closely a PC matches the console.
If you want a PC that matches the Series X’s results in the games you play, expect the total to exceed the console’s price in most regions. Whether it is worth the difference depends on how much you will use the PC beyond gaming.
