There is no single tubeless-sealant dose for every bicycle tire. Follow the instructions for your exact sealant and tire; as one brand-specific starting point for initial installation, Continental recommends 30 ml per road tire, 50 ml per gravel tire and 70 ml per mountain-bike tire. Other manufacturers call for more, especially for larger tires.
How much sealant should you put in each tire?
Use the amount specified by the sealant or tire manufacturer for your setup. Recommendations differ by product as well as by tire category and size, so do not average charts from different brands or treat one maker’s figures as universal.

For a quick, clearly qualified reference, Continental recommends these initial amounts for its RevoSealant: 30 ml for a road tire, 50 ml for a gravel tire and 70 ml for an MTB tire. Continental also specifies a minimum of 30 ml per tire. That simple category chart is not a substitute for a more specific instruction from the maker of your sealant or tire.

#1 Best Overall
- Long-lasting latex formula provides superior durability, staying effective for 2-3 times longer than standard sealants to minimize maintenance and downtime. 60-120 days between top-offs.
- Contains advanced nanite particles engineered to rapidly seal punctures up to 1/4" and slices up to 1/2", ensuring reliable performance across a variety of trail and road conditions.
- Developed with eco-friendly, biodegradable ingredients, this sealant offers an environmentally conscious choice without sacrificing sealing performance or safety.
- Optimized for performance in varying temperatures and riding environments, making it an ideal choice for endurance cycling, mountain biking, and gravel adventures.
- Compatible with all major tubeless-ready and UST tire brands and engineered to work across a wide range of rubber compounds. Orange Seal adheres to the tire casing seal punctures to effectively without causing delamination, breakdown, or damage to the rubber, maintaining the integrity and performance of the tire over time.

| Panaracer SealSmart EX | Road: about 60–90 ml; cyclocross/gravel: about 90–120 ml; 26- or 27.5-inch MTB: about 90–120 ml; 29-inch MTB: about 120–150 ml. These are SealSmart EX instructions, not a universal chart. Panaracer SealSmart EX manual (2024-12) |
| Schwalbe Doc Blue for Pro One and Pro One TT Tubeless Easy | At least 60 ml for initial installation of each of these named road tires. Schwalbe tubeless instructions |
| WTB category guidance | Road/gravel tires under 50 mm: 2–4 oz (approximately 59–118 ml); MTB tires 2.0–2.5 inches: 3–5 oz (approximately 89–148 ml). These are WTB’s stated ranges. WTB TCS guidance |
How much for a 700×40 gravel tire?
A 700×40 tire falls within Vittoria’s listed 700x35c/45c gravel range, for which its Universal Sealant chart recommends 60 ml per tire. Continental’s simpler category guidance says 50 ml for a gravel tire, while Panaracer lists about 90–120 ml for cyclocross/gravel with SealSmart EX. These amounts differ because they are recommendations for different products; use the guidance for the sealant you are actually installing.
Does a 29-inch MTB tire need more than a road tire?
Often, manufacturer charts specify more sealant for wider or more demanding MTB tires than for road tires, but the exact amount depends on the product and tire size. For example, Vittoria lists 70–90 ml for its specified 29-inch XC sizes and 120–150 ml for specified 27.5/29-inch trail/enduro sizes. Panaracer’s SealSmart EX guidance is about 120–150 ml for 29-inch MTB tires. Do not apply those amounts to another sealant without checking its instructions.

Initial installation and top-ups are different
An initial fill is the amount used when setting up the tire; a top-up replaces sealant that has dried or been lost. Do not assume the installation amount is also the correct maintenance dose. Vittoria’s product PDF recommends checking or topping up every 3–5 months or over 1,200 km. That interval is specific to Vittoria’s guidance and should not be applied to other sealants.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow to add and distribute the sealant
Follow the method specified by your tire and sealant makers. Manufacturers describe different installation approaches, so a syringe or injector is optional rather than required for every setup.

What to check before measuring
- Exact product: Sealant makers’ recommendations can differ substantially; use the chart for the sealant in the tire.
- Tire dimensions and use: Width, diameter and category—road, gravel, XC, trail/enduro or fat bike—can all affect the listed amount.
- Installation versus maintenance: Confirm whether the figure is for the first fill or a later top-up.
- Application and distribution: Follow the maker’s stated method and any after-installation steps for your tire and sealant.
