For the assembled LEGO PlayStation 72306 console alone, reserve at least 26 cm (10.5 in) of width, 19 cm (7.5 in) of depth, and 6 cm (a little over 2.5 in) of height. That is the official model envelope. In practice, choose a larger shelf because the controller is displayed separately and the set looks better with room around it for viewing and handling.
The short answer: plan beyond the console’s minimum footprint
LEGO PlayStation 72306 is a 1,911-piece adult display set recreating the original PlayStation console and its controller. LEGO markets it as a shelf-or-desk display model, while PlayStation describes it as a near-1:1-scale replica. The console itself occupies a rectangular envelope measuring over 26 cm wide, 19 cm deep and 6 cm high once assembled.

Those figures answer the narrowest fit question: a shelf that is exactly that size can theoretically support the console body. It does not necessarily provide enough room for the separate controller, the cable detail, your hand when placing the model, or a clear view from the front. Treat the published envelope as a minimum, not as a comfortable display specification.

Width
Width is measured across the long front-to-back-facing side of the console replica. A shelf with less usable width than the published figure cannot hold the console straight across. Measure between the shelf’s actual side walls, brackets or trim; an advertised outside width can be reduced substantially by frame thickness.

Depth
Depth is the front-to-back shelf dimension occupied by the console. A shelf can meet the width requirement and still fail on depth, especially when a rear lip, cable channel, book spines or a case wall takes away usable space. Measure from the front edge to the first obstruction rather than from the front of the furniture to its back panel.
Height
The published height is for the console body. It is not a recommended clearance above the model. A cubby or cabinet opening that leaves only the exact model height may make the set difficult to lower into place, remove for dusting or view from a standing position. If you are using a case, include clearance above the model for lifting it out.
How much extra room should you allow?
There is no official controller-clearance allowance. The LEGO and PlayStation information identifies the console dimensions but does not publish the controller’s display footprint, a required shelf load rating, a material specification or a universal spacing recommendation. Therefore, any larger shelf target is a planning choice rather than an additional LEGO specification.

A useful way to set your target is to add a margin to the official console envelope:
- Very tight console-only display: the shelf’s usable area must meet the model’s minimum width and depth, with enough vertical opening to place it without scraping.
- Comfortable open display: add several centimetres around the console on the sides and front so the controller can sit beside or in front of it and the model is easier to see.
- Case or enclosed cubby: make the case’s internal width and depth greater than the model envelope, then add room for the controller and for your fingers to lift the assembly out.
For example, adding a 3 cm margin to each side of the console produces a planning width 6 cm greater than the model itself; adding the same margin front and back produces a planning depth 6 cm greater. Those are illustrative calculations, not an official accessory size. Increase the margin if the controller will share the same level or if the shelf is recessed behind a frame.
Measure your shelf before you build or buy the set
- Clear the intended location. Remove books, trim pieces, lighting rails and any objects that could reduce the opening after the model is assembled.
- Measure usable width. Measure between the surfaces that will actually contain the model. If the shelf has side panels, measure at the narrowest point.
- Measure usable depth. Measure from the front edge to the rear obstruction. Account for a raised lip, backboard, cable raceway or a case door.
- Measure vertical clearance. Measure from the shelf surface to the lowest obstruction above it. Leave additional room if the set must be lifted vertically into a cubby.
- Decide where the controller goes. The controller is a separate display piece. Mark a second area beside, in front of or on a lower riser rather than assuming it can occupy the console’s footprint.
- Check the viewing angle. Make sure the front of the console and controller are not hidden by a shelf lip or cabinet door. A technically successful fit can still be a poor display if the details are blocked.
- Check stability. Confirm that the shelf is level and that its support system can carry the finished model and any case. The official information does not state a required load rating, so use the furniture maker’s rating and leave a safety margin.

Planning for the separate controller
The set recreates both the original console and a controller, but the published console dimensions do not describe the controller’s exact footprint. Do not reserve only a rectangle for the console and assume the second piece will fit automatically.

Choose a layout before fixing the shelf location:
Side-by-side layout
Place the controller beside the console on the same shelf. This is the most straightforward arrangement, but it requires additional width beyond the console’s long side. Leave enough space that the controller does not overhang the shelf or hide the console’s front details.
Front placement
Place the controller in front of the console. This uses less additional width but consumes depth and can obscure the console. It works best on an open shelf where the controller can sit slightly forward without falling near the edge.
Riser or split-level placement
Use a stable riser to place one component above the other. A riser changes the required height and can make the display easier to see, but it must be wider and deeper than the item it supports and must not block ventilation or create a tipping hazard. The riser’s dimensions are an accessory choice, not part of LEGO’s stated specification.

Separate shelf levels
Put the controller on a nearby shelf or desk surface. This avoids forcing both pieces into one footprint, provided the two locations still let you view the set as a coherent display.

A case should be specified by its internal clearance. An external case dimension can include panel thickness, corner hardware and a base, leaving less room inside than expected.

- Internal depth must exceed the published depth and provide space for the controller if both pieces share the case.
- Internal height must exceed the published console height, with additional clearance for lifting the model out and for any base or riser.
- Check door and lid openings, not just the largest point inside the case.
- Confirm that the case base is level and strong enough for the finished model.
Because no exact controller clearance is published, a case seller cannot legitimately guarantee a perfect two-piece fit from the console dimensions alone. Measure the controller arrangement you intend to use, then compare those measurements with the case’s clear interior.

Load, shelf material and safety considerations
The official product information gives the piece count and model dimensions but does not specify a required shelf load rating or a preferred shelf material. The finished model is therefore a display object whose support must be judged using the furniture or case manufacturer’s rating.
- Use a level surface; a sloping shelf can let a model or controller migrate toward the edge.
- Keep the model away from a front edge where an accidental bump could send it to the floor.
- On a wall shelf, follow the bracket and anchor instructions and use the stated load rating for the installed configuration.
- When adding a case, count the case, base and riser in the total load, not just the LEGO model.
- Provide a clear lifting path so you do not drag the model against a side panel or overhead shelf.
