It must also meet one of two watch/view thresholds: 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 12 months, or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. YouTube does not set a separate subscriber threshold for 24/7 livestreams. A livestream can contribute to the watch-hour route only if it is public and converted to a video on demand (VOD); reaching the numbers does not guarantee YPP acceptance or that ads will serve.
Subscriber and viewing thresholds for YouTube ad revenue
YouTube’s current official eligibility guidance, accessed in 2026, sets out two routes to the YPP ad-revenue tier:

These are alternative routes: a channel needs to meet one viewing threshold, not both. Shorts-feed watch time does not count toward the 4,000-hour requirement. See YouTube’s Partner Program eligibility guidance for the current rules. YouTube’s page also displays an announced YPP update beginning February 1, 2027; that future change is not the current threshold as of October 2026, so check the official guidance again when applying.
When 24/7 livestream hours count
A continuous stream does not earn 4,000 qualified hours just by running for that long. Watch hours reflect viewers’ time watching, and the hours must meet YouTube’s qualification rules within the rolling 12-month window. YouTube excludes livestream watch hours from this threshold if the stream is unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD.

Keep a qualifying stream public and available afterward
- Set the livestream’s visibility to public if you want its eligible viewing time to count toward the public watch-hour route.
- Keep the broadcast available as a VOD after it ends; do not delete it.
- Check the eligible watch-hour total in YouTube Studio. The stream’s runtime is not the same as its qualified watch hours.

What the 500-subscriber YPP tier offers—and what it does not
In locations where expanded YPP is available, a channel may qualify for an earlier tier with 500 subscribers, at least three valid public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. This tier can unlock eligible fan-funding and Shopping features; it does not by itself unlock Watch Page ad revenue. Feature availability and requirements can vary by location and feature.

YouTube reviews a channel after it reaches a threshold. Its guidance says, “No. Every channel that meets the threshold will go through a standard review process.” A channel must follow monetization policies, be based in a country or region where YPP is available, have no active Community Guidelines strikes, enable two-step verification, have access to advanced features, and link an AdSense for YouTube account. The figures are entry thresholds—not a promise of acceptance or earnings. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies before relying on a livestream strategy to build a channel.
What monetization can mean for a livestream
After YPP acceptance, creators may earn from livestream ads and eligible live features such as Super Chat, Super Stickers, and channel memberships, once the relevant terms and features are enabled. YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when livestream monetization is turned on. Mid-roll ads may be inserted automatically or manually. An ad opportunity does not guarantee an ad or revenue: YouTube states, “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” Embedding a livestream with autoplay can also turn off live-stream ads. Can a 24/7 livestream reach the 4,000-hour requirement by itself?
It can contribute eligible public watch time, but stream duration alone does not determine qualified watch hours.

Does YouTube require more subscribers for a livestream than for other videos?
No. The ad-revenue threshold is not different for livestreams.
