What the six-million estimate means
MacDailyNews reported that Apple was on track to sell about 6 million iPhone Duo units during 2026. The report attributes the estimate to Counterpoint Research senior analyst Ivan Lam, but it does not provide a direct quotation from Lam. The accessible Counterpoint coverage confirms that the firm has analyzed the iPhone Duo, but does not independently substantiate this specific number. MacDailyNews’ October 1 report
The figure should therefore be read as an attributed forecast, not as a confirmed outcome. The sources do not say whether “sell” means Apple shipments, sales into retail channels, or purchases by consumers, and they do not disclose the forecast’s assumptions.
Why launch supply could limit sales
In a September 10 launch analysis, Counterpoint said early iPhone Duo sales would “almost certainly be constrained by limited supply rather than limited demand.” That is the firm’s expectation, not a measured post-launch result. What Counterpoint says the iPhone Duo is
Counterpoint describes the iPhone Duo as Apple’s first foldable smartphone: a book-style device with a large inner screen and a smaller outer display. Its product coverage lists these specifications:

- 5.4-inch outer display
- 48MP Fusion main camera
- Software features designed around the foldable form factor

Counterpoint’s launch analysis listed a U.S. starting price of $1,999, with preorders scheduled to begin October 16, 2026, and availability from October 23. MacDailyNews reported the same starting price and dates.
