Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Short answer: runtime is approximately the station’s usable AC watt-hours divided by the average wattage of everything connected. The idealized calculation is 2,000Wh ÷ 100W = 20 hours, but real AC runtime is lower and varies with inverter losses, idle consumption, battery condition, temperature, reserve settings, and changing loads.
You cannot assign one reliable runtime to an unspecified refrigerator and router. Refrigerator compressor cycles, startup surges, appliance efficiency, and the station’s actual usable AC capacity all matter. Measure the refrigerator’s energy use when possible, then calculate from the station’s published usable AC energy.

What the 2,000Wh label actually tells you
Watt-hours (Wh) describe stored energy. Watts (W) describe the rate at which a device uses power at a given moment. A 2,000Wh battery is therefore an energy reservoir, not a promise that every appliance will run for the same number of hours.
The label also does not establish whether the power station can start a refrigerator. The station must have enough continuous AC output for the loads while they are running and enough surge output for the refrigerator’s compressor startup. The inverter converts the battery’s DC power into household AC, and its output rating must suit both the expected power and the type of load.

Nominal battery capacity is not the same as energy delivered through the AC outlets. Conversion losses, the station’s own electronics, reserve settings and battery condition reduce the energy available to appliances. If the manufacturer publishes a usable AC-energy figure, use that number instead of the headline battery capacity.

Calculate an estimate for your own setup
1. Measure or estimate every load
List the refrigerator, router and any other equipment that will operate at the same time. For a steady load, watts multiplied by hours equals watt-hours. A 10W router operating continuously for 24 hours uses 240Wh before conversion losses.

A refrigerator is different because its compressor switches on and off. A running-watt figure or nameplate maximum does not represent its average consumption over a day. A plug-in watt-hour meter records the compressor’s real cycling pattern and is the preferred way to establish daily energy use.
Measure for at least a representative 24-hour period and preferably several days. Include normal door openings, defrost cycles and the room temperature you expect during an outage. Use the average daily Wh from that test to represent the refrigerator in the calculation.

2. Add simultaneous energy use
Combine the refrigerator’s measured average load with the router and all other devices that must remain powered. Small loads matter when they run continuously: an optical-network terminal, modem, smart-home hub, alarm panel, phone charger or medical monitor can consume energy around the clock.
If your meter reports daily watt-hours, add those daily figures. If you only have average watts, add the averages and use the result as the combined load. Do not add the refrigerator’s maximum nameplate wattage to the router and treat that sum as a typical continuous draw; that overstates runtime needs while still failing to address startup surge.
3. Use usable AC energy in the formula
Use this first-order estimate:
Runtime (hours) ≈ usable AC energy (Wh) ÷ combined average load (W)
If only the nominal 2,000Wh rating is available, the arithmetic is an upper-bound illustration, not a guaranteed result. At a 100W combined average load, 2,000Wh ÷ 100W equals 20 idealized hours. Actual AC runtime will be shorter when inverter conversion and station idle draw are included.
Idealized arithmetic examples
The following figures use the full 2,000Wh label with no losses. They show how load changes the answer; they are not promises for a particular power station.

| Combined average load | Idealized runtime from 2,000Wh | What changes in practice |
|---|---|---|
| 50W | 40 hours | AC conversion and idle consumption reduce this figure. |
| 100W | 20 hours | Actual runtime depends on usable AC energy and load cycling. |
| 200W | 10 hours | Startup events and inverter efficiency still need checking. |
| 500W | 4 hours | A refrigerator may not draw 500W continuously; this is only arithmetic. |
For example, if your meter shows 80W average for the refrigerator and the router averages 10W, the combined average is 90W. Divide the station’s published usable AC Wh by 90W. If no usable figure is published, calculate from the 2,000Wh nominal capacity only as a deliberately optimistic estimate and label the result accordingly.
Why refrigerator runtime is especially difficult to predict
Compressor cycling changes average consumption
A refrigerator may draw substantial power while the compressor runs and nearly none while it is in its cooling pause. The percentage of time spent running changes with ambient temperature, thermostat setting, food load, door openings, condenser cleanliness and the defrost system. Two refrigerators with similar nameplate ratings can therefore use very different watt-hours over 24 hours.
The U.S. Department of Energy has an older generic table for a 17-cubic-foot frost-free refrigerator-freezer that lists 500W and 150–300 hours per month. That reference is not a prediction for a modern appliance and should not replace a meter reading. Nameplate ratings are generally maximum design limits; DOE guidance notes they can be two to four times actual consumption.
Startup surge can be higher than running watts
When the compressor starts, the motor can briefly demand several times its running power. Check the refrigerator documentation for starting or locked-rotor watts if available. Then compare that requirement with the station’s surge rating, while also accounting for any other device that may start at the same moment.
A station that has enough stored energy can still shut down if its inverter’s continuous or surge limit is exceeded. If the refrigerator fails to start, disconnect other AC loads, verify that the station is in AC-output mode, and compare the compressor’s startup requirement with the station specifications. Do not assume a larger Wh number automatically means a stronger inverter.

Temperature and placement affect the result
Hot rooms, direct sunlight, poor ventilation around the refrigerator and frequent door opening generally increase compressor operation. Keep the appliance in its normal location, leave ventilation clear and avoid repeatedly opening the door during an outage. Those practices improve food preservation and make a meter-based estimate more representative.
What the router and “other essentials” add
Routers usually draw far less power than refrigerators, but they operate continuously. Include the modem or optical-network terminal if internet service requires it; powering only the Wi-Fi router may not restore connectivity. Add any network switch, mesh node or security device that must remain online.
For other essentials, record each device’s average watts and expected hours. A lamp used for four hours contributes less than a modem running all day. A laptop charger’s printed wattage is its potential output, not necessarily the computer’s actual draw, so measure it if runtime is important. Resistive heaters, kettles, hot plates and hair dryers consume energy rapidly and may exceed the station’s output even when the refrigerator and router are well within limits.
Published manufacturer examples: useful illustrations, not guarantees
Two current 2,048Wh product pages demonstrate how widely runtime claims can differ. Their figures use different appliance models and test methods, so they must not be averaged or presented as a universal answer.
Recommended Free Tools
| Published example | Capacity stated | Router example | Refrigerator example | Conditions and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Growatt INFINITY 2000 | 2,048Wh | 25W for 70 hours | 500W for 3.5 hours | Internal-lab data; the manufacturer says actual results may vary. |
| DJI Power 2000 | 2,048Wh | 152 hours | 40 hours | Measured at 25°C with products of specified brands; actual experience may vary. |
The refrigerator figures differ by more than an order of magnitude because the appliance models, assumed loads, cycling behavior and test procedures differ. The router figures also use different assumptions. These examples reinforce the need to measure your own equipment and to verify the station’s usable AC energy.

Check power limits before connecting anything
Continuous AC output
Add the running watts of all devices that may operate together and compare the total with the station’s continuous AC-output rating. Leave headroom for normal variation. The Wh capacity answers “how much energy,” while the continuous-watt rating answers “how much power at once.” You need both.
Surge output
Compare the refrigerator’s startup demand with the station’s surge capability. Also consider startup events from compressors, pumps, laser printers or other motors connected to the same inverter. If the manufacturer does not state surge performance clearly, treat compatibility as unconfirmed rather than guessing.
Idle draw and outlet behavior
The inverter and display consume some power even when the connected load is small. A low-watt router can therefore produce a shorter runtime than a simple Wh ÷ W calculation suggests. Check whether the station has an AC-output timeout or energy-saving mode that could switch off a small load; disable that feature only if the manufacturer’s instructions allow it and continuous operation is required.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to measure your refrigerator and verify the estimate
- Connect a plug-in watt-hour meter between the wall outlet and the refrigerator. Use a meter rated for the refrigerator’s voltage and current.
- Record at least one normal day. Several days are better because compressor cycling and defrost events vary. Note the room temperature and unusual door openings.
- Write down total Wh and peak watts. Total Wh establishes average energy; peak or maximum watts helps identify whether the station can handle operation and startup.
- Measure the router and required network equipment. Record their combined Wh over the same period or measure their average watts while operating.
- Add the averages. Convert daily refrigerator Wh to an average watt figure by dividing by 24, then add the router and other continuous loads.
- Apply the runtime formula. Divide usable AC Wh from the power-station specification by the combined average watts.
- Perform a controlled outage test. Fully charge the station, connect only the intended essentials, record the start time and monitor battery percentage. Stop before the station reaches its reserve cutoff. A test in representative temperature and load conditions is more reliable than a nameplate calculation.
Planning for outages longer than one day
A 2,000Wh-class station is a finite battery. If your measured setup uses 100W on average, even the idealized calculation reaches only 20 hours. For multi-day outages, plan how the station will be recharged and what loads can be switched off.
A compatible solar panel can extend operation, but compatibility with the station’s solar-input voltage, current and connector is essential. Solar output varies with sunlight, panel angle, shading, temperature and weather, so rated panel watts are not a guaranteed charging rate. Treat solar as a way to replenish energy during daylight, not as a promise of uninterrupted refrigerator operation.
Prioritize loads before the outage: keep the refrigerator and necessary network equipment on, reduce lighting hours, disable nonessential hubs and avoid high-wattage heating appliances. If food safety is the priority, minimize door openings and monitor the refrigerator’s internal temperature with a suitable thermometer.
Common calculation mistakes and fixes
- Using 2,000Wh as delivered AC energy: replace the nominal figure with published usable AC Wh when available.
- Treating refrigerator nameplate watts as its 24-hour average: measure daily Wh so compressor cycling is included.
- Ignoring startup surge: compare compressor starting demand with the station’s surge rating before purchase or connection.
- Counting only the Wi-Fi router: include the modem, optical terminal, mesh nodes and switches required for service.
- Quoting a manufacturer graphic as a guarantee: preserve the stated appliance model, temperature, test method and “actual results may vary” qualification.
- Assuming a larger battery always runs more appliances: verify continuous and surge watts; capacity and inverter strength are separate specifications.
- Testing with an empty refrigerator or unusual weather: repeat the measurement under representative conditions.
A practical checklist before an outage
- Find the station’s nominal capacity and usable AC-energy specification.
- Confirm continuous AC watts, surge watts and the AC-output timeout behavior.
- Measure refrigerator Wh over at least 24 hours, preferably several days.
- Measure the router and every network device that must stay online.
- Calculate runtime from usable AC Wh divided by combined average watts.
- Confirm refrigerator startup demand is below the station’s surge capability.
- Decide which loads will be disconnected first if the battery percentage falls quickly.
- If using solar, verify input compatibility and plan for weather-dependent output.
Bottom line
A 2,000Wh power station may run a refrigerator, router and small essentials for part of a day or longer, but the exact duration cannot be determined from the capacity label alone. Measure the refrigerator’s cycling energy, include every continuous network load, use the station’s usable AC Wh, and check both continuous and startup-watt limits. The resulting calculation is an informed estimate; a controlled test is the dependable way to know how your particular setup will perform.
