Little Kitty, Big City takes about 2.7 hours for a story-focused run, according to HowFarAmI’s player-derived estimate. A run that includes major side content is estimated at about 4.2 hours, while full completion is about 6.8 hours. Those figures are estimates, not a developer-guaranteed runtime. Reaching home also does not end your save: you can keep exploring, complete optional activities, and access additions from later updates.
How long does Little Kitty, Big City take to finish?
The answer depends on what you mean by “finish.” HowFarAmI’s estimates, refreshed August 15, 2026, separate a story-focused playthrough from runs that include more optional content:

These are player-derived figures, not fixed completion times. HowFarAmI’s categories describe different amounts of in-game activity; TrueAchievements measures a platform-specific target, namely all 39 Xbox achievements. They are useful comparisons, but not identical definitions of “completion.” Your own time will depend on how much you explore, collect, and take on optional content.
Which estimate should you use?
- You mainly want to reach the story’s ending: use the main-story figure as a rough planning guide.
- You want to do substantial optional activities as you go: the major-side-content estimate is the closer comparison.
- You want to clear the game as completely as possible: look at the full-completion estimate, while remembering that individual goals and platform achievements are not necessarily the same checklist.
- You are tracking Xbox achievements: the achievement estimate is more relevant than a general completion category because it specifically covers all 39 Xbox achievements.
The studio’s official game materials describe Kitty’s adventure as a chance to explore, make friends, wear hats, and cause a little chaos, but do not publish an average completion time. Treat the numbers above as estimates from tracking services, not as a promise about how long your playthrough will take.

For context, the Xbox figure is a modal estimate: TrueAchievements reports the time most commonly indicated by its members, rather than a guarantee or a measured speedrun. Its 6–8-hour range covers players who reported completing all 39 achievements. That target may not match HowFarAmI’s broader “full completion” category, so the two figures should not be treated as competing measurements of precisely the same checklist.
Does the story ending stop you from playing?
No. Reaching home is not a point of no return: the official press kit says players who had already climbed home can return to their existing save and seek out Tanuki to access the Picture Purrfect additions. You do not need to treat the ending as a deadline for collecting everything or helping the other characters.
This distinction matters if you are deciding whether to explore thoroughly before finishing the story. You can follow the story at your own pace, then use the same save to pursue optional activities and update content. The game’s official description presents quests and helping animal friends as activities alongside the central adventure, rather than as a requirement to finish the story.

If you left hats, quests, or photo opportunities unfinished, you can return to your save and decide which, if any, are worth pursuing. The official access note is specifically about the Picture Purrfect additions; it does not promise that every player will have identical quest progress or that every optional objective is required.
What can you do after finishing the story?
Return to your save and find Tanuki
- Load the save on which Kitty has already reached home.
- Look for Tanuki in the city.
- Use that encounter to access the Picture Purrfect additions, as described in Double Dagger Studio’s official press kit.
The studio says those additions fit into the existing story, and specifically describes access for players returning to an existing save. You do not need to start a new game just to reach this content.

Complete animal quests and collect what you missed
Continue helping animal characters and finishing optional quests. If your remaining goals are collection-focused, keep exploring for hats and other items. These activities give a story-complete save a practical purpose beyond simply revisiting familiar streets: you can work through optional tasks and collection goals at your own pace.
The game’s official description sums up the broader appeal as an adventure to “explore, make new friends, wear delightful hats, and leave more than a little chaos in your wake.” That is a useful way to think about the post-story choice: the remaining play is for the pleasure of the city’s interactions and discoveries, not because the central story needs more hours to reach its stated endpoint.

Double Dagger Studio announced the free Picture Purrfect Update for August 27, 2025. The update added areas and characters and expanded photo mode. Its content is designed to slot into the existing story; the press kit’s instructions for returning players point them to Tanuki on their existing save.
That makes Picture Purrfect relevant both to players who want more places to explore and to those who enjoy taking pictures. The update is not a separate story-length estimate, so its additions should be thought of as extra activities rather than as a replacement for the playtime categories above. Because the additions fit into the story, they are also a reason to revisit the city after finishing rather than a separate campaign with a new completion time.

On May 12, 2026, Xbox Wire published an announcement by Arsenio Navarro, Business Operations at Double Dagger Studio, about the Birthday Update. Navarro wrote: “Today, we’ve opened the doors to the rest of Kitty’s home, expanding the interior to be a full, explorable playground!”

The update’s home activities include interactions with Turt, birthday decorations, photo stickers and frames, and a hat to find among the presents. If you have already finished the city adventure, this gives you another place to explore rather than a reason to restart the story. The apartment is more than a brief look at a new backdrop: the announcement presents it as an explorable play space, with interactive details and photo items to try out.

Keep playing casually and take photos
The official materials frame the game as an open-world playground for exploration at the player’s pace and describe photo mode as part of that experience. You can therefore treat the ending as a natural point to stop, or carry on with wandering and photography without needing another story objective. The choice is about whether you enjoy those activities, not whether the save remains playable.
How should you plan your playthrough?
Because the runtime depends on how much optional play you choose, it helps to decide what “done” means before you start. That keeps a short story-focused run from feeling incomplete and prevents a completion-oriented run from being judged against a story-only estimate.
- For the shortest route to the ending: prioritize the main adventure and leave optional exploration for later.
- For a balanced run: make time for quests, animal friends, and collection finds when they catch your interest, without turning every detour into a mandatory task.
- For completion goals: distinguish between finishing the story, pursuing full completion, and clearing a platform’s achievement list. The trackers use different categories, so choose the one that matches your target.
- If you want the update content: keep your existing save. After reaching home, find Tanuki for Picture Purrfect; Kitty’s home also has the Birthday Update additions.
A useful way to interpret the estimates is as a range of play styles rather than a timer you need to beat. The gap between story-only and full-completion estimates reflects the extra time available for optional play. If you naturally stop to explore or take photos, expect your own run to differ from a focused route; the tracker figures cannot predict an individual player’s habits.
You also do not have to choose a completion target in advance. A focused first run can establish whether you enjoy the main adventure; after reaching home, you can decide whether quests, hats, photos, or the newer spaces sound worthwhile. Since the official press kit describes access to Picture Purrfect from an existing post-home save, there is no cited need to postpone the ending just to preserve that content.

Platform and edition notes
Japan-market Nintendo Switch packaged edition
SEGA announced a packaged Nintendo Switch edition for the Japanese market, released June 18, 2026, and says it contains the same content as the digital edition. The announcement establishes the region and release date, but not current retailer stock, price, language options, or compatibility details for a particular buyer. Check the listing and packaging information for your region before purchasing. The package announcement does not establish a different story length.
This is relevant if you specifically want a boxed Switch copy, but the Japan-market qualification matters: the announcement alone cannot confirm that a particular local retailer carries it or that its packaging and language details suit your needs. It does not indicate a longer campaign or a separate set of story content.
Mobile edition
The official mobile FAQ says the mobile edition launched October 12, 2026. As of October 13, 2026, the FAQ describes it as free to try and then unlocked through a one-time purchase; it says there are no ads or paid DLC. It is a separate purchase from the PC or console editions, includes an exclusive AR mode, and does not support save transfers. These are platform and purchase distinctions, not evidence of a different story runtime.
That means a PC or console owner should not assume an existing save will carry over to mobile, or that buying one version unlocks the other. Conversely, the FAQ’s one-time-purchase description and lack of ads or paid DLC clarify the mobile model; they do not change the estimate for how long the main story takes.

What the playtime figures can—and cannot—tell you
The estimates are helpful for setting expectations: the story is short compared with the time needed to pursue substantial side content or completion goals. But they should not be read as a studio promise, a controlled benchmark, or a guarantee that every player will finish in the same amount of time. HowFarAmI’s estimates were refreshed August 15, 2026; TrueAchievements’ Xbox figure is based on member completion reports and was accessed October 13, 2026.

For a practical decision, choose the target that matches your interest. If you only want to see the ending, plan around the story category. If collecting, helping characters, photographing the city, or finding update activities sounds appealing, leave room beyond that. And if the credits or arrival home feel like a natural stopping point, you can stop there without losing access to your existing save or the stated route to Picture Purrfect content.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long to beat Little Kitty, Big City?
HowFarAmI’s player-derived estimate, refreshed August 15, 2026, is about 2.7 hours for the main story, about 4.2 hours with major side content, and about 6.8 hours for full completion. These are estimates, not a developer-published runtime.
Is there anything to do after you get home?
Yes. You can continue on your save, help animal characters, finish optional quests, look for hats and other items, explore the Picture Purrfect additions, and visit Kitty’s expanded home from the Birthday Update. The studio’s press kit says returning players can find Tanuki to access Picture Purrfect.
Do I need to finish every quest before reaching the ending?
No. The official materials present quests and helping animal friends as optional activities, and the press kit says players who have already reached home can return to their existing save and find Tanuki for Picture Purrfect content.
How long does it take to get all Xbox achievements?
TrueAchievements estimates 6–8 hours for all 39 Xbox achievements, based on the modal time reported by 2,876 members who completed the game. That platform-specific goal is not necessarily the same checklist as a general full-completion estimate.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Plan on roughly 2.7 hours for a story-focused run, with more time if you want side activities or full completion. Reaching home is not the end of your save: you can return for quests, collections, photos, Picture Purrfect content, and Kitty’s expanded home.
