For a quick answer, plan around 30–40 hours for Final Fantasy Resonance’s main story. A run that includes most side quests, optional bosses and endgame challenges is expected to take about 50–60 hours, while broad completionist play is estimated at roughly 60–80 hours. These are planning estimates from producer Keisuke Nakashima, not a post-launch average measured across a large player sample.
Final Fantasy Resonance PS5 completion-time estimates
The most useful way to plan your time is to match the estimate to how you play. Someone following the critical path will have a very different schedule from a player who explores every area, clears optional battles and works through the game’s challenge content.

| Play style | Expected time | What it generally means |
|---|---|---|
| Main story | Approximately 30–40 hours | Following the primary scenario with limited detours |
| Side-content run | Approximately 50–60 hours | Adding a substantial selection of side quests, exploration and optional encounters |
| Broad completionist play | Approximately 60–80 hours | Attempting most side quests, optional bosses, challenge activities and endgame content |
The ranges are not guarantees. Your route, battle pace, exploration habits and difficulty choice can all move the final total. They are best treated as a budget for scheduling rather than a promise that every player will finish at the same point.

Producer estimate for the main scenario
Keisuke Nakashima, the game’s producer, gave the core estimate in a Japan Expo interview: players who follow only the main story should get about 30–40 hours. He gave a closely matching figure in a Famitsu interview, describing the main scenario as taking roughly the same amount of time.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Because both statements come from the producer in 2026, they are the clearest currently available guide to the intended campaign length. They describe expected play time, not a controlled test in which every player uses the same route, settings or battle strategy.
Estimate for wider play
Nakashima said that players completing side quests could spend about 50, 60 or even 80 hours, and that broad play involving the game’s many completionist elements could reach roughly 60–80 hours. The two interviews use slightly different wording, but they point to the same pattern: optional content can add a large second phase after the story route.
No large, stable post-launch dataset is available yet to establish an average completion time from thousands of PS5 players. Until those figures exist, the producer’s ranges should remain qualified as estimates.

Main-story run
A story-focused run prioritizes the primary scenario and moves through required locations and battles without trying to exhaust every optional objective. You may still gain levels, upgrade characters and investigate anything that blocks progress, but the goal is to keep momentum rather than clear every request on the map.
This is the appropriate benchmark if you want to experience the first story arc and reach the ending efficiently. It is not the same as rushing: reading dialogue, learning the combat system and taking normal breaks are compatible with the estimate. Repeated defeats, extensive backtracking or long detours will push the total upward.
Side-content run
The middle range applies to players who treat optional content as a meaningful part of the adventure. That can include side quests discovered during the campaign, additional exploration and selected optional fights, without insisting on every challenge or perfect completion target.

This style often feels like the natural first playthrough for an RPG. You can follow the story when it has momentum, then pause to resolve nearby requests or investigate an area before moving on. The result is a substantially longer experience than the critical path without requiring the most demanding endgame cleanup.

Broad completionist run
The longest estimate is aimed at players who deliberately seek out most of what the game offers. That means working through side quests, returning to optional areas, taking on difficult encounters and spending time in the game’s challenge-focused activities.
Completionist time is especially sensitive to how much experimentation you do. A player who finds an effective party setup quickly may clear optional battles faster than someone who repeatedly changes equipment or tactics. Conversely, a player who pursues every available objective may spend considerably longer than a player who simply sees the ending.
Optional activities that expand the PS5 playtime
The official PlayStation listing identifies several optional activities that explain why the broader estimate can approach twice the story-only budget. They are not required to finish the primary scenario, but they provide reasons to keep playing after the main route has been completed.
Gilgamesh encounters
Gilgamesh encounters are named as optional content. Players interested in seeing additional battles and testing their party beyond the required fights should allow extra time for locating and preparing for these encounters. The number of attempts needed will depend on your chosen difficulty and how comfortable you are with the combat system.

The Colosseum provides a dedicated battle activity separate from simply advancing the plot. It is the kind of content that can turn a short detour into a longer session: you may enter for a few fights, return later with a stronger party, or keep going to pursue more of the available challenges.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The Chamber of Arms
The Chamber of Arms is another optional destination listed for the game. Players who want a fuller tour of the available content should treat it as part of their side-content budget rather than assuming that the main-story estimate includes it.
Ultima Weapon
A battle with Ultima Weapon is specifically highlighted as optional. Encounters of this type commonly require more preparation than routine story battles, so the time cost includes not only the fight itself but also character development, equipment decisions and retries if your first strategy fails.
How to use the demo without miscalculating the full game
Square Enix says the free demo covers the opening chapter and provides approximately 3–5 hours of gameplay. Save data carries into the full release, so progress made in the demo can continue in the PS5 version rather than forcing you to replay that opening.
The demo is useful for answering practical questions: whether the combat pace suits you, how quickly you read the dialogue, and whether the opening presentation keeps your attention. It is not a reliable formula for predicting the complete campaign. The first chapter may contain a different mix of tutorials, story scenes and exploration from later sections, so multiplying its duration by the number of expected chapters would create a false precision.
Use the demo to calibrate your personal pace instead. If you spend significantly longer than the stated window because you inspect every corner or replay battles, expect your full-game time to run toward the high side of the producer’s ranges. If you move quickly through the opening, that still does not guarantee a proportionally shorter campaign.
PS5 release details that affect planning
The official PlayStation listing identifies Final Fantasy Resonance as a one-player, offline-capable PS5 RPG. It lists a price of $49.99 and a release date of October 22, 2026. Those details describe the listed PS5 product and do not change the estimated number of hours.

Square Enix describes the game as an HD-2D reworking of the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. That context matters when setting expectations: this is a focused reworking of an opening arc, not a claim that the entire original game has been reproduced as one enormous campaign.
How to budget your own play schedule
If you want only the story
- Reserve several sessions for the main route rather than expecting to finish in one weekend.
- Accept nearby objectives when they do not require major backtracking, but leave distant optional content for later.
- Keep a note of optional encounters you skipped so you can return after seeing the ending.
This approach gives you a clear path to the conclusion while preserving the option of a second, more exploratory phase.
If you want a balanced first playthrough
- Complete side quests that appear in your current area before major story transitions.
- Try optional battles when your party is appropriately prepared instead of repeatedly forcing an underpowered attempt.
- Explore thoroughly enough to understand the setting, but do not treat every missed item as a reason to stop the story.
A balanced run is the practical choice for players who want more than the plot but do not want to turn the first playthrough into a checklist.
If you are targeting broad completion
- Keep a running list of side quests and optional locations as they become available.
- Return to earlier areas after major story milestones, since new objectives may become accessible.
- Set aside dedicated sessions for the Colosseum, Chamber of Arms, Gilgamesh encounters and Ultima Weapon rather than trying to squeeze them between story scenes.
- Expect retries and preparation time for difficult optional battles.
Completion goals are easier to manage when you separate exploration, quest cleanup and challenge fights into distinct tasks. That also makes it easier to stop at a satisfying point if the full checklist begins to feel like work.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why your result may differ from the estimate
Exploration habits
The largest ordinary difference comes from how much you investigate. A player who opens every path, revisits earlier locations and reads all optional dialogue will naturally spend longer than someone who follows objective markers. Neither approach is more correct; they simply measure different experiences.
Combat efficiency
Some players learn enemy patterns quickly and finish routine battles with little delay. Others experiment with party composition, retry encounters or pause to improve equipment. Optional bosses magnify this difference because preparation and failed attempts can add more time than the successful battle itself.

Difficulty and accessibility choices
A casual difficulty setting can reduce the time spent on repeated fights, while a more demanding setting may require additional preparation and retries. The producer’s estimates do not establish a separate hour count for each setting, so treat difficulty as a reason to expect variation rather than applying a fixed adjustment.
Reading and session length
Dialogue speed, whether you pause between battles and how often you take breaks also affect elapsed calendar time. A 40-hour save file might represent several weeks for a player with short evening sessions, while another player could complete the same amount of play over a few long weekends.
Is Final Fantasy Resonance a long PS5 RPG?
It is best described as a medium-length story RPG with a much larger optional layer. The primary scenario is not designed as a hundreds-of-hours commitment, but the named side activities give dedicated players a substantial reason to continue after the ending.
Recommended Free Tools
For a buyer deciding whether the game fits a particular schedule, the useful distinction is not simply “short” or “long.” The story route offers a manageable campaign, while exploration, side quests, optional bosses and challenge modes determine whether your personal playthrough stays near the lower estimate or moves toward the upper one.
Practical answer to “How long to beat Final Fantasy Resonance?”
Use the story estimate when you are planning to reach the ending with limited detours. Use the middle estimate when you expect to complete many side quests and explore naturally. Choose the broad completionist estimate when your goal includes most optional encounters and challenge activities, including the Colosseum, Chamber of Arms, Gilgamesh content and Ultima Weapon.
Those ranges come from Keisuke Nakashima’s 2026 producer interviews and should remain labeled as estimates until a substantial body of player data is available. The demo can help you discover your pace, and its save transfer means trying the opening does not discard that progress.
