The range reflects two different estimates: an earlier producer comment suggested 30–40 hours for the main game and up to 80 hours for extensive completion, while Famitsu’s first review of the finished release reported about 20–30 hours for the main story and about 70 hours for full completion.

Why the estimates changed
The early producer estimate
GamesRadar reported on June 11, 2026 that producer Keisuke Nakashima described the game as taking 30–40 hours to complete, with completionists spending up to 80 hours. That estimate was made before broad reviews of the finished game were available.

The first finished-game review
On October 15, 2026, Push Square reported figures from Famitsu’s first review of the completed game: approximately 20–30 hours for the main story and around 70 hours for full completion. Because this assessment is based on the released build rather than an earlier production estimate, it gives a tighter current expectation, but it still remains a review estimate rather than an official guarantee.
The difference is therefore best understood as chronological and methodological, not as proof that one source is necessarily wrong. Use 20–30 hours when budgeting for a focused story run, and keep the wider 20–40-hour range in mind for a less hurried playthrough.
What counts as “full completion”?
The available reports identify a full-completion target of about 70 hours, with the producer’s upper estimate reaching 80 hours. They do not publish a detailed checklist defining every objective included in that total. In practical terms, the longer figure is intended for players who pursue optional content and spend more time with the game’s systems rather than only advancing the central narrative.

How long is the demo?
Square Enix says the demo lasts approximately 3–5 hours and covers the opening through chapter one. Save data carries into the full game, so time spent in the demo is not discarded when you continue after purchase. The shorter end of the estimate suits players who move directly through the opening; exploration and battles can push it toward five hours.

Final Fantasy Resonance launches October 22, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Windows PC. Square Enix’s Japanese notice lists October 23 for the Steam release in Japan, reflecting the local release schedule.
Square Enix describes Resonance as the first HD-2D game in the FINAL FANTASY series. It draws on the first story arc of FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS, but the company says it was extensively rebuilt as a full-fledged console-quality RPG rather than being a direct port.

Which estimate should you use?
If you are deciding whether the game fits your schedule, reserve a long weekend or several evenings for the story and use 20–30 hours as the most recent focused-play estimate. Players who routinely investigate optional content should plan closer to 40 hours. Reaching the broadest completion target is a substantially larger commitment: approximately 70 hours, potentially up to 80.
