How Long Do Nothing Phones Get Android and Security Updates?

Nothing’s published terms for the Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus promise three years of Android or major Android updates and four years of security updates. The Phone (2) page also specifies security patches every two months. Those are model-specific commitments, not a blanket policy for every Nothing phone.

Nothing’s current Nothing OS 5.0 rollout page says Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 have reached the end of major software support for that release and will not receive Nothing OS 5.0. It lists newer phones in the rollout, but does not establish their complete support lifespans.

The published support periods, by model

Nothing separates Android-version upgrades from security maintenance. An Android upgrade changes the operating-system version and can add features, redesigns, or platform changes. A security update fixes vulnerabilities without necessarily changing the Android version. The promises below apply to the specific models and regional product pages identified by Nothing.

Model Android or major-version updates Security updates Important qualification
Nothing Phone (2) Three years of Android updates Four years of security patches Nothing’s European product page says patches arrive every two months.
Nothing Phone (2a) Three years of major Android updates Four years of security updates Commitment is stated on Nothing’s Australia product page; a cadence is not specified there.

Phone (1) Not a new numeric term in the OS 5.0 page Remaining security period is not stated there Nothing says the phone has reached the end of major software support for Nothing OS 5.0 and will not receive that release.
Phone (2) Three-year product-page commitment; no Nothing OS 5.0 Four-year product-page commitment, every two months The OS 5.0 page’s end-of-major-support statement concerns that release; it does not replace the product-page security wording.
CMF Phone 1 Not established by the cited pages Not established by the cited pages Nothing says it has reached the end of major software support for Nothing OS 5.0 and will not receive that release.
Phone (3), Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Pro, and Phone (4a) Not established by the cited pages Not established by the cited pages The OS 5.0 page lists rollout information, not total update lifespans.

The durations in Nothing’s product pages do not consistently say which event starts the clock. They do not establish that support starts at purchase, activation, first sale, or another universal date. For a used phone or an imported model, ask Nothing which sales region and policy apply rather than calculating an end date from the day you buy it.

What the three-year Android promise covers

Major Android upgrades are separate from patches

For Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus, “three years” refers to Android or major Android updates. It is not three years of monthly security patches, and it should not be read as a promise of three additional years after the final major release. Security support has its own four-year term.

Major updates can arrive at different times in different markets. A phone may receive an Android version after another model, or after a carrier has completed testing. The existence of a three-year commitment therefore tells you the planned span, not the exact date on which every upgrade will appear.

Why the distinction matters when comparing phones

A buyer who values new Android features should compare the number of major-version updates. A buyer focused on vulnerability fixes should compare the security-support duration and, where published, the delivery interval. A phone can stop receiving major Android releases while still receiving security patches, so “no new Android version” does not automatically mean “no security support.”

Phone (2): the only cited cadence

Nothing’s European Phone (2) product page gives the clearest schedule: three years of Android updates, four years of security patches, with patches delivered every two months. “Every two months” is the cadence stated for this model on that page. Do not apply it automatically to the Phone (2a), Phone (2a) Plus, or other Nothing phones when their cited pages do not state an interval.

The cadence describes intended delivery frequency, not a guarantee that every country, carrier, or software build will be released on the same day. If an expected patch is missing, check the phone’s region and carrier configuration and consult Nothing’s support channel before assuming the commitment has ended.

Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus

Nothing Phone (2a)

Nothing’s Australia product page states three years of major Android updates and four years of security updates for the Phone (2a). The page does not provide the two-month cadence stated for Phone (2). That difference is important: the duration is documented, while the precise interval is not.

Nothing Phone (2a) Plus

Nothing’s Malaysia product page states three years of Android updates and four years of security patches for the Phone (2a) Plus. As with the Phone (2a), the cited page establishes the length but not a universal patch timetable. Regional pages can also differ in availability and rollout practice, so use the page for the market in which your handset was sold.

What Nothing OS 5.0 status tells you about older phones

Nothing’s current Nothing OS 5.0 page explicitly says: “Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 have reached the end of major software support and will not receive Nothing OS 5.0.” This is a definitive statement about eligibility for that particular operating-system release.

It is not, by itself, a complete security-support table. The page does not state how many security patches remain for each of those phones, nor does it cancel the four-year security wording published for Phone (2). Treat “will not receive Nothing OS 5.0” and “security updates have ended” as different claims unless Nothing makes both statements for your model.

For Phone (1) and CMF Phone 1, the cited OS 5.0 page gives no remaining security-support date. Owners should check the latest model-specific support information and the security-patch level shown on the handset rather than infer an end date from the OS 5.0 announcement.

Newer Nothing phones: rollout listing is not a lifespan promise

The OS 5.0 page lists Phone (3), Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Pro, and Phone (4a) among devices in the rollout. It provides indicative timing that can change and says rollout is phased by region and, where applicable, carrier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That listing answers “is this model included in the OS 5.0 rollout?” It does not answer “how many Android versions and security years will this model receive?” The retrieved official material does not establish numeric commitments for those newer models. Do not project the Phone (2) or Phone (2a) terms onto them without a model-specific Nothing policy.

Why an update can be late even during the promised period

  • Phased deployment: Nothing can release software to groups of users rather than everyone at once.
  • Regional differences: A build may be cleared in one country before another.
  • Carrier testing: Carrier versions can require additional validation before distribution.
  • Indicative schedules: Dates on the OS 5.0 page are subject to change, so a listed month is not the same as a contractual delivery date.

These factors affect when an update appears; they do not change the published duration for a model. Conversely, receiving an OS 5.0 update does not prove that Nothing has published a particular total support period for every model on the rollout list.

How to check whether your own Nothing phone is still receiving updates

  1. Identify the exact model. Open Settings and look under the device-information or “About phone” section. Record the model name and, if shown, the regional or carrier variant.
  2. Check the installed security level. In the same information area, note the Android version and security-update date. The wording and menu location can vary by Nothing OS version.
  3. Run the built-in updater. Open Settings > System > Software update (or the equivalent label on your build), then check for updates. Install only when the phone identifies the package as an official system update.
  4. Match the model to Nothing’s current support page. Use the page for the relevant sales region. Compare its Android-update duration, security duration, and any stated cadence with your notes.
  5. Allow for staged rollout. If your model is listed but no update appears, wait for regional or carrier distribution and check again. A delayed offer does not by itself show that support has ended.
  6. Ask support a precise question. Provide the model, region, carrier, current Nothing OS build, and security-patch date. Ask whether the device remains within its security-support period and whether a particular release is still being staged.

How to use the support terms when buying or keeping a phone

Your priority What to compare How the cited evidence helps
New Android features Number of major Android updates Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus each state three years.
Security maintenance Total security-support duration Those same three models state four years.
Predictable patch timing Published cadence Only the cited Phone (2) page specifies every two months.
Buying an older model Current OS eligibility and remaining security period Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 will not receive Nothing OS 5.0; the page does not state their remaining security periods.
Buying a newer model Model-specific policy, not rollout inclusion alone Phone (3), Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Pro, and Phone (4a) are listed for OS 5.0, but their total lifespans are not established by the cited material.

For a used Phone (2), Phone (2a), or Phone (2a) Plus, the four-year security term is more useful than the purchase date only after you confirm how Nothing defines the start of the term for that exact market. If that starting event is not stated, describe the remaining period as uncertain instead of promising a precise end month.

What to do when major updates stop

A phone that no longer receives a major Android release can continue to work, but its software will remain on an older platform. Before keeping it for several more years, check whether the apps and services you depend on still support that Android version and whether the device is receiving security patches.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Install every official security update that remains available.
  • Keep screen-lock, account-recovery, and backup protections enabled.
  • Be cautious with unknown apps, files, and links, especially when the security-patch date is old.
  • Plan replacement before sensitive work depends on a phone whose security support has ended.

These precautions cannot extend Nothing’s support term. They reduce exposure while you verify the device’s current status and decide whether to move to a model with a documented support window.

Bottom line for each documented model

If you need a documented figure, the Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus each have three years of Android or major Android updates and four years of security support. Only Phone (2) has the cited every-two-month patch cadence. Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 are excluded from Nothing OS 5.0, while the newer phones listed for that rollout do not have numeric lifespans established by the cited official pages. Check the exact model and region before turning any of these terms into a calendar date.
