There is no single retention period across delivery apps. Uber Direct publishes specific access windows for its merchant delivery service: proof-of-delivery photos are available in its Dashboard for 7 days and through its API for 30 days. DoorDash and Instacart’s public materials reviewed here do not give a photo-specific retention period or a complete list of who can view an individual image. These details are product-specific; Uber Direct’s rules should not be assumed to apply to Uber Eats.
What the published retention periods actually mean
A photo being available through a particular dashboard or API is not the same as knowing when every copy is deleted from every system. The clearest published window is for Uber Direct: Uber says its proof-of-delivery photos are available in the Direct Dashboard for 7 days and through the API for 30 days. Those figures describe access through those tools, not a universal delivery-app retention schedule.

Uber’s Driver and Delivery People Privacy Notice separately lists 7 years for the broad “Trip/Delivery” data category. That is not a statement that each proof-of-delivery photo remains accessible or is retained for seven years. The product-specific photo access windows are in Uber’s Proof of Delivery guide; the broader data category appears in its Driver and Delivery People Privacy Notice.

Uber Direct
Uber Direct supports photo proof for non-contact deliveries. Its developer guide says photos are available in the Direct Dashboard for 7 days and through the API for 30 days. It also says the merchant is responsible for showing the photo to the customer in the merchant’s own app. A customer’s access therefore depends in part on how the merchant has integrated the service.

Uber Help says merchant order history can display the selected proof-of-delivery method, including a link to the delivery partner’s photo. That describes a customer-facing route in merchant order history, not a different retention guarantee. See Uber’s merchant help page.
These statements apply to Uber Direct and its merchant workflows. They do not establish the photo-retention policy for consumer Uber Eats orders.

DoorDash
DoorDash says Dashers must submit a drop-off photo for deliveries where proof of delivery is required, and its Dasher Support page explains how to take and submit one. Its consumer privacy policy describes general retention purposes: providing the service, keeping transaction records, meeting legal obligations, handling disputes, and enforcing agreements. The policy reviewed does not give a number of days or years for delivery photos.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

That describes order-fulfillment information available to Dashers; it does not identify which DoorDash support, safety, or other internal roles can view a specific photo. Instacart
Instacart’s privacy policy describes disclosures to affiliates and service providers, with cloud-storage and delivery services among its examples, as well as certain account-sharing circumstances. The policy reviewed does not state how long proof-of-delivery photos are retained or list the people who can view an individual image. A general reference to service-provider categories does not show that every provider can inspect a particular photo. See Instacart’s Privacy Policy.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who can see a delivery photo?
The answer depends on the platform, product, and how the order is handled. Uber Direct’s documentation establishes that the merchant can access proof through its Dashboard or API and must surface it to the customer in its own app. Uber Help also describes a photo link in merchant order history where that proof method was selected. For DoorDash and Instacart, the public materials described above do not provide a complete photo-specific access list. A statement about what a Dasher can see to fulfill an order is not a disclosure of internal staff permissions.

Public privacy policies may describe broad data handling without specifying image-level access controls. Do not treat a general data-retention period or a list of service-provider categories as proof that a photo remains available for that entire period or is visible to every listed party.

How to check a photo for a particular order
- Open the order in the delivery or merchant app. Check order history or delivery details for a proof-of-delivery photo or link. For Uber Direct, the merchant controls whether it surfaces the photo in its own app.
- Contact the merchant or platform support if the image is missing. Give the order details and ask whether the photo is still available and what access route applies. A public policy that does not specify a photo window cannot confirm whether a particular image has been deleted.
- If you are a merchant using Uber Direct, check the relevant access route promptly. Uber documents different availability windows for the Dashboard and API; do not assume that one route stays available as long as the other.
