But a bank or payments company using RippleNet or Ripple Payments is not, by that fact alone, proven to use XRP or settle payments on the public XRP Ledger (XRPL). The public customer examples reviewed here disclose different levels of detail, and do not establish that any named institution uses that exact asset-and-ledger combination in a live corridor.
What it means to use XRP, Ripple Payments, or the XRP Ledger
These terms describe related but distinct things. Ripple is a company that offers payment products and services. XRP is a digital asset used in the ODL payment flows Ripple documents. The XRP Ledger is a network whose documentation includes direct XRP payments and cross-currency payments. A product relationship with Ripple does not, on its own, identify which asset or ledger a particular customer uses.

- Ripple Payments or RippleNet: A company or bank may use Ripple’s payment services, APIs, liquidity arrangements, payment information, or payout network. That description alone does not establish XRP use.
- XRP and ODL: Ripple’s ODL materials describe XRP as a bridge asset in specific payment flows. That is evidence of a product design, not proof that every Ripple customer or corridor uses it.
- Public XRPL settlement: To establish that a named institution settles production payments on the public ledger, a source must identify that deployment. A Ripple product page or a protocol capability does not establish it by itself.
This distinction matters because a cross-border payment can involve several stages: asset movement, conversion, payment instructions, and local payout. A ledger transfer is not necessarily the same thing as the beneficiary receiving spendable local currency.
How Ripple’s documented ODL payment flow works
Ripple describes ODL for payment service providers handling remittances, fintechs moving money for overseas small and midsize businesses, and companies transferring internal treasury funds across borders. The documented mechanics vary by use case.

Individual remittance or business payment
- Ripple funds a designated sender wallet with XRP.
- The sender retrieves and accepts a quote using RippleNet API operations.
- XRP moves from the sender wallet to a receiver wallet.
- The receiving side liquidates the XRP into destination fiat and pays the beneficiary through a local payout method.
In this design, XRP is the bridge between the sending and receiving sides. The recipient may receive fiat rather than XRP.
Bulk funding and later disbursement
Ripple’s bulk-funding description reverses where the funding position is established: XRP funds a receiver’s position, which is converted into fiat for the sender’s account before later beneficiary disbursements. This describes a funding arrangement, not a claim that each later payment to an individual beneficiary is itself an XRP transaction.

Internal treasury transfer
For an internal transfer, the customer liquidates XRP into the destination currency and transfers that fiat to a local bank account. The intended treasury outcome is a fiat balance at destination; the XRP transfer is one part of the route.

Ripple’s May 31, 2024 explainer also says XRP and other digital assets can act as bridge currencies for last-mile fiat payouts, and presents Ripple Payments as combining blockchain infrastructure, payment information, and payout arrangements. What public customer examples disclose
The table separates what Ripple’s public customer pages say from what they do not establish. Figures below are claims on Ripple-published pages, not independent comparative statistics. Unless a date is stated, a page’s metric should not be read as a current 2026 result.
| Example | What the published material describes | What it establishes about XRP or public XRPL |
|---|---|---|
| SBI Remit and Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) | Ripple’s SBI Remit case study describes Japan-to-Thailand remittances through RippleNet, with Thai recipients receiving THB in SCB savings accounts within seconds. Its undated page also reports monthly cumulative payment volume above 10 billion JPY, 90% of customers as foreigners living in Japan, a three-month implementation, and three-second settlement. These are Ripple-published figures; the page does not date the individual metrics. | The case study does not specify XRP or public-XRPL settlement for the corridor. |
| SCB Easy app remittances | Ripple’s SCB case study says SCB completed more than half a million RippleNet transactions in 2020 and reported 335% year-over-year volume growth. The same undated case-study page lists one-minute end-to-end processing, 80,000 monthly transactions, and $400 million in monthly person-to-person remittance settlements. The last three figures are not dated on the page. | The page does not identify the asset or ledger for each payment. The metrics are Ripple’s case-study claims, not independently audited or established as current performance. |
| Travelex Bank | Ripple describes use of Ripple Payments for near-instant settlement, global payments management, and access to liquidity. The case description says Travelex gained ten new clients in one year through Ripple’s network. | The page does not identify XRP or public-XRPL settlement. |
| Tranglo | Ripple describes Tranglo as a payments hub using Ripple Payments, with payouts across more than 70 countries. Its undated page reports 5,500 payout partners and more than 100 financial institutions and partners. Tranglo co-founder Hui Yong Sia says the company can process a payment end-to-end in less than a minute; that is a company-published statement, not a neutral benchmark. | The case does not say that every payment uses XRP or settles on public XRPL. |
| AMINA Bank | In a December 12, 2025 announcement, Ripple said the Swiss-regulated bank would use Ripple Payments to support near-real-time cross-border payments for clients. The announcement discusses stablecoin-to-fiat rails, names Ripple USD (RLUSD) and other stablecoins, and describes connections between blockchain and traditional banking rails. It also says Ripple’s network represented more than 90% of the global FX market and had processed more than $95 billion; those are Ripple’s company-level claims, not measurements of AMINA’s payment flows. | The described AMINA flow is not identified as using XRP. |
These examples show why the label “Ripple customer” is not a sufficient description of settlement. The reviewed pages do not map every customer’s payment to XRP, RLUSD, another asset, fiat-only processing, or a specific ledger route.

How to evaluate a corridor before choosing a rail
A useful comparison is corridor-specific: a route that works operationally in one country pair may not have the same liquidity, payout options, or cost in another. Assess the complete payment path rather than a ledger transaction in isolation.
- All-in cost: Include FX spread, transfer charges, payout fees, and any costs associated with maintaining liquidity. Compare equivalent payment sizes and payout methods.
- Liquidity and prefunding: Check liquidity depth in both directions, when it is available, and whether the operating model requires funds to be held in advance.
- End-to-end timing: Measure from payment initiation through conversion and local payout. A ledger confirmation time alone does not establish when the beneficiary can use the funds.
- Destination reach: Confirm supported countries, local payout partners, currencies, and payment methods for the specific corridor.
- Compliance and records: Determine who handles sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, recordkeeping, and any licensing obligations that apply to the institutions and jurisdictions involved.
- Asset and counterparty exposure: Where a digital asset is involved, review volatility exposure, custody arrangements, conversion counterparties, and controls for operational or settlement failures.
- Integration and resilience: Assess API implementation, reconciliation, exception handling, support, and service availability, including how failed or delayed payouts are resolved.
The reviewed Ripple materials do not provide a neutral, like-for-like comparison of total cost or corridor performance across these factors. Treat them as diligence questions, not as proof that a particular rail is categorically cheaper or faster.

What the XRP Ledger itself establishes
Official XRPL documentation describes protocol capabilities, including direct XRP payments and cross-currency payment topics, and provides developer and network tools. That can help a technical team understand what the ledger supports. It does not demonstrate that a particular bank uses the public XRPL in production, or that Ripple Payments uses it for every customer transfer. For those claims, look for a primary source that identifies the institution, asset, ledger, and live payment corridor.
