YouTube Live Redirect can send viewers from an ending livestream to a selected Premiere or another channel’s eligible live stream. It can help connect scheduled parts of a broadcast, but it does not create one uninterrupted feed—and the available evidence does not establish that any named Indian news channel uses it for that purpose.
What YouTube Live Redirect does
Live Redirect is a viewer handoff configured for a YouTube live video. When the source stream ends, YouTube can direct viewers to a destination chosen by the creator: a Premiere or another channel’s live stream. The transition happens after the source ends; it is not a way to keep that source broadcast running continuously. YouTube’s current instructions are at YouTube Help: Live Redirect.

TeamYouTube described the trigger this way in a May 3, 2022 announcement: “Once your live stream or Premiere ends (or you hit ‘End Stream’ in LCR), autoplay will move your viewers to the stream or Premiere that you selected.” The announcement also explains the destination-permission requirement: TeamYouTube’s Live Redirect announcement.
How an Indian news channel could connect scheduled broadcasts
A broadcaster could configure the ending live video to redirect viewers to a later Premiere or another channel’s live stream. For example, a scheduled programme could direct viewers to a following Premiere, or a partner channel’s stream, once the source ends. This describes a possible use of YouTube’s feature, not a verified practice by any particular Indian broadcaster.

The feature is a handoff between video destinations, rather than proof of one continuous broadcast feed. YouTube advises creators to schedule the Premiere before the live stream and tell viewers to wait briefly while the screen reloads. If viewers have autoplay turned off, TeamYouTube says they must press play themselves. So the handoff may involve a pause or an extra viewer action; do not promise it will be seamless.
Choose a destination and check permissions

YouTube’s current Help guidance says a channel sending a redirect needs more than 1,000 subscribers and must have no Community Guidelines strikes. TeamYouTube’s May 2022 announcement said channels of any size could receive redirects. These are different roles: apply the current Help eligibility guidance to the sender, and treat the announcement’s receiver statement as dated information.

Set up the handoff in YouTube Studio
- Confirm sender eligibility. Check YouTube’s current Live Redirect requirements before planning the handoff. The Help page specifies more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes for the sending channel.
- Arrange the destination. Schedule the Premiere in advance, or coordinate with the other channel if the destination is its live stream. For a cross-channel handoff, confirm that the destination channel’s redirect settings allow your channel.
- Open the source live video’s settings. In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live, select the source live video, and use its Live Redirect setting to choose the Premiere or eligible live stream. YouTube also describes configuring the feature in Live Control Room.
- Tell viewers what to expect. Ask viewers to wait briefly for the screen to reload. Some viewers may need to select play if autoplay is disabled.
- End the source stream. The redirect activates when the source ends; ending it in Live Control Room also triggers the handoff, according to TeamYouTube’s announcement.
Studio labels and available destinations can change. Follow the current YouTube Help setup guidance if the control is not where expected.
What is known about Indian news channels’ use
The available verifiable evidence does not identify a named Indian news broadcaster that publicly documents using Live Redirect to hand viewers between segments of a continuous stream. That is not proof that no broadcaster uses it. It means a channel’s visible, ongoing YouTube presence alone is not enough to conclude it relies on Live Redirect: the feature is specifically a configured handoff after a source video ends.
