IdeaPanner is a Chrome extension I built to make browsing TrustMRR startup listings less repetitive. It lets me record whether I want to pass on a business, revisit it, or dig deeper; save notes; and compare selected listings. TrustMRR was described as having “11,000+ startups with verified revenue” when I wrote about the extension, but that was a time-bound figure, not a current or independently confirmed count.

Why I built a browsing aid for TrustMRR

I used TrustMRR to look for startup ideas and found myself revisiting the same listings, rereading the same details, and losing track of why a business had caught my attention. The extension is meant to address that workflow problem. It helps organize decisions about listings; it is not a startup database of its own.

The “11,000+ startups with verified revenue” figure was the author’s description of TrustMRR’s listings at the time of the article. It does not establish TrustMRR’s current listing count or independently verify how its revenue data is validated.

How IdeaPanner organizes listing decisions

Mark a listing and add context

For a listing, IdeaPanner offers three choices: Pass, Later, or Dig in. You can attach a note to capture why you made that choice. Passed listings can be hidden on subsequent visits, helping reduce the chance of spending time on the same unsuitable listing again. The maker says these controls are also available on startup detail pages.

Save listings to revisit

Later and Dig in selections are collected in a saved list with their revenue information, notes, and any explanations. The extension also remembers the MRR shown on the date you marked a startup, so the saved record can preserve the figure associated with your decision rather than only what appears on a later visit.

Compare candidates side by side

The Compare view is described as lining up MRR, pricing, customer channels, your verdict, and a starting point. This is intended to make differences between shortlisted businesses easier to inspect without repeatedly switching between individual listings. The comparison fields and workflow are the maker’s description, not an independently tested evaluation of the extension.

What the Explain feature is intended to do

Explain reads a startup’s public TrustMRR profile and generates a plain-language analysis. The maker describes the output as covering:

Filtering listings to fit your search

IdeaPanner can hide selected categories and save named TrustMRR filters for later restoration. That can help narrow browsing to areas of interest without rebuilding the same filter setup each time. The source does not establish the extension’s current compatibility with TrustMRR or whether every listed feature is available in the current release.

What the maker says about data handling

The maker says that marks, notes, and filters are stored in the browser, with no account or analytics. For the free AI trial, public startup information is sent to the maker’s server and forwarded to an AI provider; the service also receives a random installation ID and IP address for daily usage limits. With a user’s own API key, requests go from the browser directly to the chosen OpenAI-compatible API.

These are the maker’s disclosures, not the result of an independent privacy audit. Before using an AI feature, consider which data route applies and review the extension’s current privacy information and settings.

Availability and feature caveat

The maker’s article said the extension was free on the Chrome Web Store, while the version with Explain, Compare, and category hiding was still under store review at the time. Readers could therefore receive a simpler first version. The source does not establish the current store listing, release status, or feature set, so check the live Chrome Web Store listing before relying on a particular capability.

Where the extension fits

IdeaPanner is aimed at people who already browse TrustMRR and want a more consistent way to screen, annotate, revisit, and compare listings. Its central value is the decision trail: what you passed on, what you want to explore, and what you noticed. Explain adds an AI summary layer, but it does not replace checking a business’s claims or doing independent market research.

The reported development involved challenges with TrustMRR’s React rendering and duplicate mobile and desktop layouts. Those are the maker’s implementation observations, not independently reproduced technical findings, and they do not establish how well the extension works with TrustMRR today.
