In Tareekh, a legal-practice memory system described by its author, each kind of information has a separate job: tags narrow recall, metadata carries source details for display and linking, and a SQLite registry resolves identities such as case numbers and aliases. That separation is the central design idea—not a guarantee that Hindsight creates legally sufficient citations or that the reported implementation is independently verified.
What the system is designed to do
The author describes a workflow in which a lawyer uploads diary photos, certified order sheets, deeds, and typed notes. The application splits uploads into hearing entries, resolves each entry to a case, and retains the entries in a Hindsight bank. An agent then uses project tools named find_case, recall_memories, reflect_on_memories, and case_timeline to answer questions about those materials.

Those tools and workflow are details reported by the Tareekh author, not independently verified capabilities of Hindsight or evidence of legal reliability. The useful architectural lesson is the boundary between finding relevant memory, preserving its source details, and resolving exact identities.

| Component | Job in the reported design | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Hindsight tags | Filter and scope recall | Dimensions that should narrow results, such as case, judge, counsel, client, record type, or author |
| Hindsight metadata | Carry source and display details with a memory | Fields such as source file, upload ID, document type, case ID, hearing date, and author |
| Separate SQLite registry | Resolve identities consistently | Cases and aliases, along with judges, counsel, and clients that need stable identifiers |
Tags: the retrieval boundary
The author reports using tag values such as case:C5, judge:J1, counsel:<id>, client:<id>, type:<doc_type>, and author:<name-or-id>. In this scheme, short opaque IDs avoid making a filter depend on how a person’s name is spelled. The appropriate tag set depends on which dimensions the application needs to filter; this is the author’s project-specific scheme, not a universal schema.

Metadata: source details, not a filter
Hindsight’s official guidance distinguishes filterable tags from metadata used for source tracking. The best-practices documentation states: “Metadata is not filterable — use tags for anything you’ll filter on”. Accordingly, fields such as source_file, upload_id, doc_type, case_id, hearing_date, and author can accompany recalled memories for an application to display or use when linking to records; they should not be treated as Hindsight tag filters. See the retain API documentation and best-practices guide.
Registry: exact identity resolution
The author reports keeping cases, aliases, judges, counsel, and clients in a SQLite registry, with case-number and alias matching before fuzzy matching. The registry is the deterministic identity layer in this design; semantic memory retrieval is not asked to serve as the authoritative resolver. The reported matching tiers and thresholds are implementation details, not independently tested recommendations.

Choose tag matching deliberately
Hindsight’s Recall API defines five tags_match modes. Their differences matter because they determine whether a query behaves like OR or AND, whether untagged memories can still appear, and whether extra tags are permitted. The table summarizes the official API semantics; examples in the last column are illustrative, not reported Tareekh queries.

|---|---|---|---|---|

At least one requested tag must match | Remain eligible | Allowed | Request case:C5 and judge:J1; a memory with either may match |
any_strict |
At least one requested tag must match | Excluded | Allowed | A memory with case:C5 may match even if it has other tags |
all |
Every requested tag must match | Remain eligible | Allowed | A memory needs both case:C5 and judge:J1, while untagged/global memories remain eligible |
all_strict |
Every requested tag must match | Excluded | Allowed | A memory needs both requested tags; additional tags are acceptable |
exact |
The complete tag set must equal the requested set | Excluded when requesting a nonempty set | Not allowed | A memory tagged case:C5 plus judge:J1 does not match a request for only case:C5 |
There is an important empty-tags edge case. With most modes, omitted or empty tags means no tag filter. With exact, empty tags select untagged/global memories. The documentation says MCP callers should send tags: [] with tags_match: "exact" when they specifically want that global-only scope. The same Recall reference describes tag_groups for recursive and, or, and not expressions; groups are AND-ed at the top level, and the request models treat tag_groups and flat tags as mutually exclusive. Consult the Recall API reference for the request details.

Make citations resolve to retrieved records
In the author’s account, the application numbers factual items returned by its tools and asks the model to cite those numbers. Application code then maps valid markers back to the returned facts and their metadata; invalid numbers are dropped. In the example, selecting a citation opens the underlying source image and related details.
This makes the model responsible for referring to a fact, while the application supplies source identity from records it already has. It is a provenance strategy reported for Tareekh’s FactBook and application code, not a Hindsight feature guarantee. The account does not establish that every citation is legally sufficient or that every malformed answer is handled correctly.

Keep record evidence distinct from chat memory
The author says conversational memories are visibly labeled in their content, tags, and metadata, and ranked after records and notes. When chat memory conflicts with a record, the described application gives precedence to the record. That hierarchy is an application design choice: it helps readers distinguish a remembered conversation from an underlying document rather than presenting both as equivalent evidence.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAccount for how tags affect consolidation
Tags do more than shape a recall query. The author reports that complete tag sets affected observation grouping in this project. Hindsight’s retain documentation also covers tag behavior and consolidation, so a scheme that looks convenient for filtering may have consequences for how observations are organized. Review the current retain documentation when designing tags, and test the resulting behavior against the application’s actual retrieval needs.
