Gran Turismo 7 does not require you to buy credits. Cr (credits) can be earned through normal game progression and are used to purchase cars. Some of the more expensive vehicles also have an invitation requirement, so having enough Cr is not always sufficient by itself. Optional credit add-ons sold through the PlayStation Store can shorten the wait for a purchase, but they are not mandatory.
The current PlayStation description for the free Spec III update (version 1.65) says it added “unlimited car invitations in Brand Central.” That is a statement about the updated Brand Central feature, not a promise that every car is free, that every invitation source has identical rules, or that ticket odds and expiry terms no longer matter.

The three separate gates: credits, availability and invitations
When you try to buy a car in Gran Turismo 7, three different conditions can affect the result:
- Credits: Cr is the game’s spending currency. You need enough to cover the listed price.
- Availability: A car can be temporarily sold out or absent from a rotating dealership. The manual allows you to add an unaffordable or sold-out car to a wish list so you can be notified when it returns.
- Invitation: Certain expensive cars require an invitation as an additional purchase condition. An invitation does not pay for the car; you still need the full credit price.
These checks are independent. You can have an invitation but not enough Cr, or enough Cr but no invitation for a model that requires one. Conversely, a car that has no invitation requirement can be purchased as soon as it is available and affordable.

What credits are and how you get them
Credits are the currency for vehicle purchases
Gran Turismo 7 uses Cr to buy vehicles in Brand Central and other dealership screens. The official game manual describes Brand Central purchases as being made with credits won as prize money. The current PlayStation game description also recognizes two sources: credits earned through game progression and credits obtained through paid add-ons.
Progression-earned Cr comes from playing the game rather than paying a separate fee. Completing the events and activities available to your account gradually builds the balance you can spend on cars. The available official material does not establish a single current credits-per-hour rate, so a precise “best grind” time cannot be stated reliably here.
What happens when you cannot afford a car
An unaffordable listing is not a failed purchase or a lost opportunity. Add it to your wish list from the dealership interface, then continue progressing until you can afford it or the listing returns. The manual also describes wish-list notifications for cars that are sold out. This is useful for rotating inventory, because a car can be unavailable even when your credit balance is high enough.
Optional paid credit add-ons
What the store sells
Credit add-ons are optional PlayStation Store purchases that deposit a specified amount of Cr into the game. At the time of the documented US store listing, the denominations were 100,000 Cr, 250,000 Cr, 750,000 Cr, 2,000,000 Cr and 5,000,000 Cr. Store packages, prices, promotions and availability can change by country and date, so treat those denominations as a listing snapshot rather than a permanent price sheet.
The official PlayStation description explicitly presents credits as either paid or earned through progression. That wording supports the practical conclusion: buying Cr is a convenience option, not a requirement to play Gran Turismo 7 or to obtain cars.

When a paid pack can and cannot help
- A pack can make up a shortfall when you are close to a car’s price.
- It cannot replace an invitation requirement. If the car is invitation-only, the invitation condition still has to be satisfied.
- It cannot make a sold-out listing immediately available. You must wait for the car to return or follow the applicable dealership process.
- It does not provide a gameplay-time estimate or guarantee a better value than earning prize money; the official pages do not publish a current comparison of time versus money.
Before confirming a purchase, check the currency amount, country storefront and any displayed terms on your own console. A US listing should not be treated as a universal offer.
How car invitations work
Invitation as an additional condition
The official manual says that certain expensive cars require an invitation. It does not say that every high-priced car uses this system. On a qualifying listing, the invitation functions like an authorization to purchase; it is separate from the Cr needed at checkout.

Do not interpret an invitation notification as a voucher or discount. If a car costs 10,000,000 Cr, an invitation lets you meet the extra condition, but it does not reduce that 10,000,000 Cr price.
Documented ways to obtain invitations
The manual identifies gameplay and roulette tickets as ways invitations can be obtained. Those are the general acquisition paths described in the manual. The current PlayStation listing for Spec III update 1.65 adds a later platform-level statement: the update includes “unlimited car invitations in Brand Central.”
Read the two statements together rather than treating one as a replacement for the other. The manual explains the invitation mechanic and names gameplay and roulette tickets; the newer update description documents an unlimited-invitations feature in Brand Central. The official pages available for this guide do not define a universal invitation expiry period, provide ticket probability tables, or list precisely which cars are covered in every circumstance. Do not rely on an assumed expiry timer or an assumed roulette percentage unless the game displays a current rule for your account.

Internet and update requirements
PlayStation describes Spec III as a free update and says an internet connection is required for the update. Install the current game update before judging how Brand Central invitations behave. If the console is offline or the update has not installed, the feature set you see may not match the current listing.

- Open Brand Central. Enter the dealership area from the GT7 world map and select the manufacturer or region containing the vehicle.
- Open the car listing. Read the displayed price and look for any invitation notice or icon before attempting to check out.
- Check availability. If the listing is sold out or temporarily unavailable, use the wish-list option where offered. A large Cr balance does not override a stock rotation.
- Check your invitation status. If the listing requires one, confirm that your account meets the invitation condition. The presence of a car on the screen does not mean the invitation requirement has been met.
- Check your Cr balance. You must have enough credits for the entire displayed price. An invitation does not contribute money toward the purchase.
- Choose how to cover a shortfall. Continue earning prize money through progression, or consider an optional credit add-on if you deliberately want to spend real money. Neither route substitutes for an invitation.
- Confirm the purchase. Once availability, invitation status and funds all pass, complete the transaction in Brand Central.

Use progression when you want to avoid additional spending or enjoy the racing loop. Consider a paid pack only as a voluntary shortcut for a known credit gap, and verify the invitation and availability conditions first so you do not spend money on a balance that still cannot unlock the desired car.

Polyphony Digital’s March 25, 2022 PlayStation Blog statement is useful historical context, not a current payout guide. It announced two notable adjustments:
- The upper limit for non-paid credits in player wallets would increase from 20 million Cr to 100 million Cr.
- Rewards in events in the latter half of World Circuits would increase by approximately 100% on average.
Those figures describe the announced adjustment at that time. They should not be quoted as a promise that every present-day event pays double, nor as a complete current event table. The statement also does not replace the current dealership and invitation rules.
Common misunderstandings and how to avoid them
“I have an invitation, so the car should be free.”
An invitation is an eligibility gate. The car remains a normal purchase with a Cr price. Save enough currency before treating the invitation as a completed acquisition.
“Every expensive car needs an invitation.”
The manual says only certain expensive cars require one. Inspect the individual listing rather than applying a blanket rule based on price.
“Roulette tickets are the only way to get invitations.”
The manual also names playing the game as a way to obtain invitations, and the current Spec III description refers to unlimited invitations in Brand Central. Do not reduce the system to roulette alone.
“Buying Cr is required to progress.”
Official PlayStation material says credits can be earned through progression as well as purchased. Paid add-ons are optional.
“The old 20-million limit is still the current limit.”
The 20-million figure belongs to the 2022 announcement, which described raising the non-paid wallet cap to 100 million Cr. Check the current game interface and update information instead of relying on that obsolete limit.

The phrase appears in the current Spec III Brand Central update description. It does not, by itself, publish ticket odds, expiry terms or a complete list of affected models. Use the invitation information shown in the current game listing.
Platform and ownership note
Gran Turismo 7 is available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. You can understand the credit and invitation system without purchasing a credit pack; the relevant choices appear during normal dealership use. If you are deciding whether to buy the game, confirm the current edition, platform compatibility and any bundle details in your regional PlayStation Store before checkout.
A quick checklist before spending money
- Is the desired car currently available, or is it sold out?
- Does its listing require an invitation?
- Do you already have that invitation under the current Brand Central rules?
- How many Cr are needed after considering the complete listed price?
- Could normal progression provide the amount without a purchase you do not actually want to make?
- Are you viewing the correct regional PlayStation Store, with current price and denomination information?
If all three in-game conditions—availability, invitation status where applicable and sufficient Cr—are satisfied, the purchase can proceed. If any one fails, buying credits alone will not solve every problem.
