Google TV Streamer can make its paired Voice Remote play a chime for 30 seconds. Start it with the button on the back of the Streamer, a supported Google Assistant device, or the Google Home app. Press any remote button to stop the sound; Google Home can cancel it as well. The feature sounds the remote—it does not show its location on a map.
Ways to make the remote ring
Use the button on the Streamer
- Briefly press the button on the back of the Google TV Streamer. Google recommends this method.
- Listen for the chime from the remote. The TV displays “Playing sound for 30 sec.”
- Press any button on the remote to stop the sound.
Google’s Find my remote instructions describe this method and the other ways to start the chime.

Ask Google Assistant
On an Assistant-enabled device, try one of Google’s suggested commands: “Hey Google, where’s my remote?”, “Hey Google, find my remote?” or “Hey Google, locate my remote?” The device confirms the request, then the remote plays the sound for 30 seconds.
Start it in Google Home
- Open the Google Home app and select Devices.
- Choose the room and TV associated with the Streamer.
- Open Settings and select Find my Google TV remote.
The app starts the 30-second sound and also provides a way to cancel it.

Use Google TV settings
Navigate to All settings → Remote and accessories → Find my remote → Play sound. You need another way to control the TV—such as a separate physical remote or a virtual remote—to reach these settings if the missing remote is unavailable.
What the finder does—and does not do
The remote emits a chime from the audio port on its back. This is a sound-based finder, not a location-tracking feature: it does not put the remote on a map or report its coordinates.

Google’s support and product information do not state a measured sound range, loudness rating or reliability result. There is therefore no documented distance at which the chime is guaranteed to be audible, nor evidence here that it can be heard through cushions, closed doors or other obstacles.

Google says Find My Remote requires the Voice Remote to be paired with a Google TV Streamer. Although Google lists the Voice Remote as compatible with Google TV Streamer (4K) and Chromecast with Google TV (4K and HD), that general remote compatibility does not establish that Chromecast devices support this finder feature. Check Google’s Voice Remote information for compatibility details.

If the remote is lost or no longer usable, Google sells the Google TV Streamer Voice Remote separately. The store listing says two AAA batteries are included. Compatibility with a Chromecast device should not be confused with the Google TV Streamer pairing requirement for Find My Remote.
