Mint Mobile runs on T-Mobile’s network, so its coverage is only as good as T-Mobile’s signal at the places you actually use your phone. No national figure can tell you how it will perform at your house. The reliable answer comes from checking each address you depend on, confirming your phone is compatible, and testing the service if the map leaves you unsure.
What Mint says about its coverage
Mint’s coverage page says: “We provide 5G coverage to 98% of Americans, and 4G LTE coverage to 99% of Americans.” Mint publishes these figures, and the page does not state a year for them.

These are population figures, not land-area figures. They also aren’t a promise for any one address. A rural road, a basement apartment or a concrete office can sit in the small remainder, or inside the covered share but still get weak signal.
How to check coverage where you live, work and travel
- Open Mint’s coverage map.
- Enter the address or ZIP code for your home. Then repeat the search for your workplace and for places you visit often, such as relatives’ homes, a gym or a commute route.
- Read the categories the map shows. Mint says green icons indicate expected coverage for certain phones, with categories such as outdoor and indoor residential. Indoor results matter most if you spend your day inside.
- Treat any gap at a place you rely on as a warning, even if the rest of your area looks fine.
Mint’s help page, How do I know if I have coverage in my area?, tells customers to “check our coverage map to verify service in your area.”

Why a map is only an estimate
Mint warns that terrain, building structures, weather and other conditions may interfere with actual service. Because Mint uses T-Mobile’s network, T-Mobile’s coverage map is a useful second opinion. T-Mobile’s disclosure is blunt about what that map shows:
“Map approximates anticipated coverage outdoors (including 600Mhz 4G LTE) based on a variety of factors, which may include limited or no coverage areas, and does not guarantee service availability; some data-intensive uses may have decreased functionality in low-bandwidth areas, especially indoors or on the exterior edges of the approximated coverage area.”

T-Mobile also lists network changes, traffic volume, outages, technical limitations, signal strength, equipment, obstructions and weather as factors. In practice, a predicted outdoor signal is not a measured indoor experience. If your home sits on the edge of a covered area, expect the weakest results indoors.

Signal coverage versus slowdowns
Having a signal and having fast data are different things. Tom’s Guide’s Mint Mobile explainer reports that speeds can drop when T-Mobile’s network is crowded, and that T-Mobile’s own customers may be prioritized over customers of a reseller like Mint. That is secondary reporting, not a figure for your area, and it concerns busy-time speed rather than whether a map shows coverage. If you live near a stadium, downtown or other congested spot, pay attention to how the service behaves at peak hours during any trial.

Make sure your phone can use the network
Mint says most unlocked phones work, but the phone needs 5G/4G LTE and VoLTE compatibility. Use Mint’s phone compatibility checker with your exact model. Mint’s help page, How do I know if Mint Mobile’s service will work for me?, covers this too.
For 5G you need two things: a 5G-capable phone and a location with 5G coverage. Where 5G isn’t available, a 5G phone falls back to 4G LTE. A new phone won’t add coverage where the network is weak, so replace a phone only if the checker says it’s incompatible.

Test it before committing
If the map leaves you uncertain, Mint says its See for Yourself Kit, available through the Mint Mobile app, gives you a seven-day trial to test service where you live, work and visit. Offers and eligibility can change, so confirm the current terms in the app before relying on it.
A good trial covers:
- Calls and texts in every room of your home, including the one where you spend the most time.
- Data speed at work and on your regular route.
- Performance in the evening, when networks are busiest.
- Any place where you’ve had trouble with your current carrier.
How to judge Mint against another carrier
Don’t compare headline percentages. Compare how each carrier performs at your own locations: indoor signal, call and data reliability, phone compatibility and busy-hour speed. Mint’s 98% and 99% claims describe the national population, and a rival’s number tells you just as little about your street.
Best Value
- STAY CONNECTED WORLDWIDE: Unlimited calling from the U.S. to 90+ international destinations including India, Mexico, Canada, China, the U.K. and more.

The Bottom Line
Mint’s coverage is T-Mobile’s coverage, so it may be excellent or poor depending on where you are. Check every address that matters, confirm your phone, and use the seven-day trial if the map leaves doubt.
