For Engines and Systems flight hardware, GE states that an AS9100-certified quality system is the minimum quality requirement and that NADCAP certification is required for special processes. Those certificates establish a baseline; they do not guarantee supplier approval or a purchase order. GE also reviews quality, financial stability, capacity, capability, risk, and the requirements flowed into the particular contract.
The practical route is to define exactly what you will make or process, align your quality system and certifications to that scope, prepare objective evidence, pass GE’s assessment, and then respond through the sourcing channel associated with an actual opportunity. Requirements for other GE purchases may differ, so the flight-hardware baseline should not be generalized to every GE procurement.

What GE means by “qualified supplier”
Qualification is not a single company-wide badge. GE evaluates a proposed supplier in relation to a product, process, business unit, site, end use, and contract. A manufacturer making flight hardware faces a different evidence package from a company providing an indirect service, repair, or a standalone special process.
| Proposed scope | What the public guidance establishes | What still must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Engines and Systems flight hardware | AS9100 is the stated minimum quality requirement; GE conducts supplier assessments. | Part-specific, site-specific, commercial, security, and contract flow-downs. |
| Special process used on flight hardware | NADCAP certification is required for special processes in the cited flight-hardware context. | The exact process, accreditation scope, customer specifications, and purchase-order clauses. |
| Engine service or repair | The flight-hardware minimum should not be assumed to apply automatically. | The responsible GE organization’s quality, regulatory, and capability requirements. |
| Indirect procurement | No universal certification baseline is stated in the referenced flight-hardware guidance. | Category, location, safety, information-security, commercial, and supplier-performance terms. |
A certificate therefore answers only one part of the buyer’s question: can the organization operate a recognized control system or accredited process? GE still has to decide whether the company can perform the defined work reliably, financially, securely, and under the clauses attached to the opportunity.

Step 1: Define the work before choosing certifications
Start with a written scope statement rather than buying a generic certification. Identify the proposed part or service, material and process technologies, production location, GE site or business, end use, and whether the output is flight hardware. Include any operations you plan to outsource. This map determines which requirements are relevant and prevents an expensive certification whose scope does not cover the work GE is considering.
Separate product, process, and service roles
A company can be a product manufacturer, a special-process supplier, an assembler, a service provider, or several of these at once. For example, machining a flight component and performing heat treatment are separate risk points even when one company controls both. Describe each role and the boundaries between them. GE’s published NADCAP statement is tied to special processes in the named flight-hardware program; it does not identify every process or imply that one generic accreditation covers all work.
Identify the controlling GE organization
GE’s public material is not a universal enrollment notice. The applicable buyer, site, purchase order, or contract may add requirements that are absent from a general supplier page. Ask which GE entity and location will own the work, which quality specification is incorporated, and whether a current site supplement applies before treating a public minimum as a complete checklist.

Step 2: Build a documented quality system
GE’s General Quality System Requirements specification, QSR-001 (identified as GQD-003), describes a quality program based on AS9100. It requires a documented and maintained quality-management system, relevant procedures and records, and controls for outsourced processes that affect conformity. QSR-001 applies when it is referenced on a GE purchase order or contract, so the incorporated revision and clauses control the work.
AS9100 certification and OASIS status
For Engines and Systems flight hardware, GE’s small-business guidance calls AS9100 certification the minimum quality requirement. QSR-001 says that a supplier with an AS9100-approved quality system listed in OASIS is assumed compliant with the quality-system requirements in that section. That assumption is limited to the specified section; it is not automatic GE supplier approval, a capacity finding, or acceptance of a particular process.
Verify that the certificate is current, issued for the legal entity and site doing the work, and covers the relevant design or manufacturing activities. Keep the certificate, scope statement, surveillance or recertification status, and any corrective-action records available for review. If production will move between sites, confirm that the certificate and GE approval expectations cover the actual location.

Controls GE can expect to see
Prepare controlled procedures and records that show how requirements become repeatable production controls. Depending on the scope, this evidence can include configuration and document control, purchasing controls, inspection and test records, nonconformance handling, corrective action, traceability, calibration, training, and record retention. Do not present a procedure without records demonstrating that personnel use it.

QSR-001 specifically calls for control of outsourced processes that affect conformity. Maintain an approved-subcontractor process, define the technical and quality requirements passed to each processor, verify certificates and results, and retain objective evidence. Outsourcing an operation does not transfer your responsibility for conforming product; your system must show how the external process is selected, monitored, and accepted.
Step 3: Match NADCAP to the actual special process
GE states that NADCAP certification is required for special processes in the cited flight-hardware context. Treat this as a process-and-scope requirement, not as a blanket credential. Determine which operation is special, which facility performs it, and which accreditation scope and specifications apply. A certificate for one process, site, or commodity does not establish approval for a different operation.
Keep the accreditation scope, expiration status, audit results, corrective-action responses, and process-specific work instructions together. Confirm the required scope with GE before relying on a generic NADCAP listing, because the public guidance does not enumerate every process covered or every customer-specific condition. Where the contract names a particular specification, demonstrate compliance to that specification as well as maintaining the accreditation.
Step 4: Prepare for GE’s supplier assessment
GE says it assesses quality and financial stability before supplier status. Its Supplier Expectations and Performance Management material describes risk-based assessment areas that can include product quality, supplier risk, capacity, and capability. Suppliers are expected to cooperate with the assessment process and provide credible information.
Quality and product risk
Organize evidence around the proposed part or process: first-article or validation data when applicable, inspection capability, process controls, defect and escape history, corrective-action effectiveness, and traceability. Explain how changes are reviewed and communicated. A mature certificate without product-specific evidence leaves the buyer unable to judge execution risk.

Capacity and capability
Document equipment, qualified personnel, production rates, bottlenecks, maintenance, metrology, and contingency plans. Distinguish installed capacity from available capacity after existing commitments. Show how you would scale, recover from an equipment failure, and protect delivery dates without bypassing required controls.
Financial stability
Be ready to provide the financial information requested during the assessment. GE’s public guidance does not state a universal revenue, liquidity, credit-score, or profitability threshold, so do not assume that meeting a numerical target guarantees acceptance. Explain ownership, continuity plans, major concentration risks, and how the business will fund tooling, inventory, qualification, and ramp-up obligations.
Risk and supply-chain visibility
Map critical sub-tier suppliers, single-source materials, long-lead items, and outsourced processes. Identify export-control, geographic, or capacity risks early. Give GE a current escalation contact and a method for reporting changes that could affect conformity or delivery.
Step 5: Understand bidding and sourcing channels
GE’s small-business guidance says the referenced Engines and Systems flight-hardware program does not use open bidding. That means an unsolicited capability statement is not evidence that a bid opportunity exists. Qualification work should support a defined GE need, not be treated as enrollment in a public tender list.
Oracle Sourcing for an invited event
GE’s Oracle Sourcing supplier portal allows potential suppliers to respond to requests for information or quotation and to submit bids for online auctions. Use it when GE directs you to a specific RFI, RFQ, or auction. An available portal account is a transaction tool, not proof that every category is open to new suppliers or that a submitted bid will be evaluated outside the event’s rules.
iSupplier for post-award administration
GE’s iSupplier portal supports activities such as viewing purchase orders and submitting invoices. It serves the operating relationship after a supplier is set up; it does not replace technical qualification, a quality assessment, or the sourcing event. Keep sourcing responses, purchase-order administration, and quality records in their appropriate systems.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Step 6: Review contract and site-specific flow-downs
GE’s broader supplier material says obligations can include contractual terms, quality requirements, government flow-downs, export-control provisions, and environmental requirements. Government contracts may flow down provisions from the Federal Acquisition Regulation or Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement. The exact obligations depend on what is incorporated into the solicitation, purchase order, or contract.

Include quality specifications, record retention, notification duties, export classifications, packaging, cybersecurity or information-system instructions, environmental controls, and customer-specific acceptance criteria when they appear in the contract.
Check GE’s approvals and site materials
GE’s approvals page links Supplier Quality Requirements and Supplementary Purchase Order Conditions and lists site-specific documents. It identifies a Cheltenham SQR/SPOC update dated November 26, 2024. Obtain the current revision applicable to your site and order; do not assume that a document written for Cheltenham governs another GE location or that a 2024 revision remains current for a later award.
Step 7: Satisfy access and security requirements
GE states that unescorted badge access or system access depends on a successfully completed and verified background check. Plan screening for employees, contractors, and visitors who need access, and allow time for verification before production or onboarding milestones. For non-U.S. personnel, screening must follow the contractual allocation of responsibility and applicable local laws.
Limit access to the people and systems needed for the job, maintain records of completed checks, and identify a replacement process when personnel change. Security clearance or screening does not substitute for export-control compliance, and a quality certificate does not by itself authorize facility or system access.

This policy can improve visibility for eligible businesses, but it does not waive AS9100, NADCAP, technical capability, financial review, security screening, or contract flow-downs. Maintain current small-business status documentation and present it alongside the same quality and delivery evidence expected of other candidates.
Readiness checklist before contacting GE
- Scope map: part, process, service, site, end use, and every outsourced operation are documented.
- Certification scope: AS9100 certification and OASIS listing, where applicable, match the legal entity, facility, and proposed flight-hardware activity.
- Special-process evidence: NADCAP accreditation covers the actual process and location when the flight-hardware requirement applies.
- Quality records: procedures, inspection data, traceability, calibration, nonconformance, corrective action, training, and record-retention controls are current and retrievable.
- Supplier controls: sub-tier approval, flow-down, monitoring, and acceptance records address outsourced conformity-affecting work.
- Operations: equipment, qualified staff, capacity, maintenance, metrology, continuity, and ramp plans are quantified.
- Financial package: requested financial-stability information is prepared with clear contacts and explanations of major risks.
- Contract review: current GE terms, quality clauses, government flow-downs, export controls, environmental provisions, and site supplements are assigned to owners.
- Security: background-check, badge, system-access, and non-U.S. screening responsibilities are understood.
- Channel readiness: the team knows whether GE has invited an RFI, RFQ, or auction and uses Oracle Sourcing or iSupplier only for the stage they support.
Common qualification mistakes and how to recover
Assuming AS9100 equals GE approval
Problem: The company presents a certificate as the complete application. Recovery: Add product-specific capability, capacity, financial, sub-tier, and risk evidence, and ask which GE specification and site requirements apply.
Using the wrong certification scope
Problem: The certificate names a different facility, activity, or process. Recovery: Have the certification scope reviewed against the proposed work before quoting, and resolve site or activity gaps with the certification body and GE contact.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Treating NADCAP as interchangeable
Problem: A generic accreditation is offered without confirming the special process. Recovery: Map the process, specification, location, and accreditation scope to the purchase-order requirement and retain the current audit evidence.
Ignoring outsourced-process responsibility
Problem: A subcontractor’s certificate is kept, but requirements and acceptance records are missing. Recovery: Flow down technical and quality clauses, approve the processor, monitor performance, and link external records to the delivered product.
Waiting for an open tender
Problem: The company assumes a portal account creates a public bidding opportunity. Recovery: Follow GE’s official sourcing instructions, respond to an identified RFI or RFQ when invited, and avoid representing an unsolicited pitch as a qualification event.
Quoting from outdated site documents
Problem: A supplier relies on an old SQR or supplementary purchase-order condition. Recovery: Obtain the current revision for the specific GE site and incorporate its clauses into the compliance matrix before accepting work.
What the public guidance does not promise
GE does not publish a universal qualification timetable, a single scoring threshold, or a guaranteed conversion rate from certification to contract. It also does not state that every GE purchase uses the Engines and Systems flight-hardware baseline. The responsible GE buyer and the incorporated contract documents determine the final requirements.
For a prospective supplier, the strongest evidence package is therefore scope-specific: a current quality system, applicable AS9100 and NADCAP coverage, controlled sub-tier processes, demonstrable capacity and capability, financial transparency, security readiness, and a clause-by-clause plan for the actual opportunity. That preparation makes an assessment meaningful, but the award decision remains GE’s buyer-led determination.
