Flipkart sale orders use the marketplace’s normal fulfilment system; a sale does not automatically create one carrier, one delivery timetable or a special buyer guarantee. After checkout, Flipkart can divide an order into shipments, assign each shipment to a seller location and route it through the fulfilment method used by that seller. For buyers, the reliable source of timing is the estimate and tracking shown on the individual order. For sellers, the key decision is whether inventory moves through Fulfilment by Flipkart (FBF), Non-Fulfilment by Flipkart (NFBF), or an applicable API workflow such as Standard or Self Ship.
What happens to a Flipkart order placed during a sale?
A checkout order is not necessarily one physical package. Flipkart’s order model separates the customer order, its individual order items and the shipments used to move those items. A shipment groups items that a seller picks, packs and hands over together. One customer order may therefore produce several shipments, including shipments from different sellers.

The platform also assigns an order to a seller location. The API documentation describes delivery-time considerations, including the fastest available delivery time, as the basis for that assignment. The seller is expected to fulfil from the assigned location and cannot simply accept the order at, or redirect it to, another seller location. That location decision can affect the route, handover and estimated arrival shown to the buyer.
Sale participation can increase order volume and create more work for sellers and logistics teams, but the available guidance does not establish a universal sale-period delivery window, faster-delivery entitlement or compensation rule. Treat the date on the order page—not a sale banner or a general expectation—as the applicable estimate.
How Flipkart delivery works for buyers
1. Checkout creates an order and one or more fulfilment shipments
After payment or order confirmation, Flipkart records the products from that checkout session as an order. Each product is an order item. Items can be grouped into a shipment when they are picked, packed and handed over together; items that differ by seller, location, readiness or logistics path can be separated. A single order can consequently show multiple tracking references or arrival dates.

2. The seller prepares the package under its assigned fulfilment route
The physical work depends on the seller’s arrangement. Under a Flipkart-managed route, inventory may already be stored in a Flipkart facility and packed there. Under a seller-managed route, the seller stores and packs the item, then presents it for pickup or dispatch. The buyer does not need to identify the internal label to follow the package; the order’s shipment status and tracking details are the practical indicators.
3. A logistics partner transports the shipment
For standard fulfilment, the seller prepares the shipment and hands it to the delivery partner assigned through Flipkart. The carrier can vary by shipment, destination and operational capacity. Do not infer the carrier or delivery date for one sale order from another customer’s experience.
4. Delivery, exceptions and post-order actions appear against the order
Use the logged-in Flipkart account to open the recent order and inspect each shipment. The buyer Help Centre groups assistance under order management, delivery, cancellation, returns and refunds. If a package is late, cancelled, missing an item or showing an unexpected status, select the affected order and use the relevant issue-resolution route rather than opening a generic request detached from the order.
What buyers should do when a sale order is late or split
Check every shipment, not only the parent order
Open the order details and look for separate shipment cards, tracking numbers or item-level statuses. A part of the order can arrive while another part remains in transit. Different estimates are not, by themselves, evidence of a failed order.

Use the estimate attached to the affected shipment
Record the promised or currently displayed date for the specific item. Public help material does not promise one schedule for all sale purchases, so an average sale delivery time is not a dependable benchmark. The estimate can also be revised by the platform as the shipment moves through its route.
Choose the matching support path
- Sign in to Flipkart and open the order from the recent-orders area.
- Select the item or shipment with the problem.
- Choose the issue type offered for that order, such as delivery, cancellation, return or refund.
- Follow the Help Centre prompts and retain the case or conversation reference.
Eligibility for cancellation, return, refund or replacement can depend on the product and order terms. The general sale label does not establish a separate entitlement. The order page and official Help Centre are the appropriate places to confirm what is available for that purchase.

The answer depends on the seller’s fulfilment choice and, in some contexts, the service terminology used by Flipkart’s systems. Seller guidance highlights FBF and NFBF. API documentation separately describes Standard Fulfilment and Self Ship Fulfilment. These API names describe documented workflows and should not be assumed to match every Seller Hub screen or commercial service label exactly.
| Documented route | Who stores and packs | Who arranges the physical logistics | Buyer-facing implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fulfilment by Flipkart (FBF) | Flipkart stores inventory and handles packing in the FBF arrangement. | Flipkart handles shipping and delivery operations. | Tracking and delivery are managed through the marketplace route; the actual carrier can vary. |
| Non-Fulfilment by Flipkart (NFBF) | The seller stores the product and packs it before pickup. | A Flipkart agent is scheduled to pick up the packed order; Flipkart provides delivery tracking and return support. | The seller performs the preparation, while the onward marketplace logistics remain visible through Flipkart. |
| Standard Fulfilment (API workflow) | The seller packs the product and prepares required documentation. | After handover, Flipkart handles logistics through the assigned delivery partner. | The seller is responsible for a correct handover; transit tracking follows the assigned route. |
| Self Ship Fulfilment (API workflow) | The seller stores and packs the product. | The seller handles dispatch, delivery and post-delivery services within the order’s defined service levels. | Delivery and services such as installation or assembly are seller responsibilities in this workflow. |
“Who ships” therefore cannot be answered for every sale order with one company name. The seller may prepare the parcel, a Flipkart-assigned partner may carry it, or the seller may control the entire logistics sequence under self ship. The order’s tracking view is more reliable than assumptions based on the sale event.

What Fulfilment by Flipkart means for sellers
Inventory moves into Flipkart’s fulfilment operation
With FBF, the seller uses Flipkart’s warehouse operation for storage, packing, shipping and delivery. The seller guidance also describes warehouse storage, quality checks, return handling and claims about faster delivery as benefits of the option. Those benefits do not turn into a blanket promise that every sale order will arrive by a particular date; destination, inventory position and service availability still matter.
Flipkart performs the routine warehouse and delivery work
Because Flipkart handles the operational sequence, the seller has less day-to-day control over the parcel’s packing station, pickup timing and carrier assignment. The trade-off is reduced seller handling for orders that are eligible for the FBF process. Returns are included in the described FBF support, subject to the product’s applicable policy.
FBF fees apply
Choosing FBF means accepting the charges associated with that fulfilment option. The amount is not a universal sale fee: category, selling price, shipping method and other account factors can affect the calculation. Sellers should verify the current amount in their own account before pricing a sale.
What NFBF means for sellers
The seller keeps stock and packs each order
Under NFBF, inventory remains with the seller. When an order arrives, the seller picks and packs it, prepares the required label and invoice, and makes it ready for the scheduled pickup by a Flipkart agent. Missing or incorrect documentation can delay handover even when the product is physically ready.

Flipkart collects and supports the downstream journey
After pickup, Flipkart provides delivery tracking and return support described in the seller guidance. The seller therefore retains more control over inventory and packing than under FBF, but still needs to meet the pickup and preparation requirements that allow the shipment to enter the network.
Shipping costs follow a different basis
The comparison describes normal shipping costs for NFBF, with the amount depending on whether the movement is local, zonal or national. Those words describe the distance category, not a fixed price. The current rate card and the seller’s account determine the applicable charge.

Standard versus self-ship in the seller API documentation
The API documentation draws a separate operational line that is important when building integrations or interpreting shipment states.
Standard Fulfilment
The seller prepares the item, applies the required labels and invoices, and hands the package to the Flipkart-assigned logistics partner. Flipkart then handles the logistics portion. The seller must process the shipment states correctly and hand over the exact item from the assigned seller location.

Self Ship Fulfilment
The seller supplies dispatch and logistics details and remains responsible for physical delivery. The responsibility extends to post-delivery services defined by the order, such as installation or assembly, and must be performed within the order’s stated service levels. A seller considering self ship should have delivery coverage, tracking processes and after-delivery support in place before enabling the route.
Why the labels should not be conflated
FBF and NFBF are the headline choices in seller guidance, while Standard and Self Ship are API workflow terms. They are useful for understanding responsibilities, but a label in an API response may not be identical to a label in every dashboard, contract or seller program. Confirm the meaning in the account documentation and workflow actually available to the seller.

The complete seller workflow for a high-volume sale
- Select an eligible fulfilment arrangement. Decide whether Flipkart-managed storage and handling or seller-controlled storage and packing fits the inventory, service area and operational capacity.
- Maintain accurate inventory at the assigned locations. Flipkart can assign an order to a seller location based on delivery-time considerations. The seller must fulfil from that location rather than redirecting the order elsewhere.
- Accept and process shipment records. Work with shipments, not only the customer’s parent order, because one order can split into multiple packages.
- Pick, pack and document the items. Prepare the product, shipping label and invoice required by the applicable workflow. A thermal label printer can be useful for sellers printing labels in volume, but no particular printer is stated as mandatory.
- Complete the handover or dispatch event. In standard or NFBF operations, make the parcel available for the scheduled or assigned pickup. In self ship, enter the dispatch and logistics details and move the package through the seller’s delivery process.
- Monitor exceptions and returns. Keep shipment status accurate, respond to delivery issues and follow the applicable return process. FBF and NFBF both include return handling in the seller guidance, while self ship places post-delivery services with the seller under the documented workflow.
Costs, payments and sale planning
What determines seller fees?
Flipkart states that fees can depend on fulfilment type, product category, shipping method and selling price. A public standard rate card is subject to change, so a figure copied from an older page may not represent the charge on a current sale. Check the logged-in seller account for the rate applicable to the product and route before setting a promotional price.
How should sellers treat the advertised payment timing?
The seller landing page advertises payment “7 days* from the date of dispatch of your order.” The conditions represented by the asterisk are not available in the cited result, so this should be treated as a qualified marketing claim, not an unconditional payment guarantee. Sellers should rely on the payment terms shown in their account and applicable agreement.
Plan capacity, not only discounts
- Check that sale inventory is available at the locations from which Flipkart can assign orders.
- Allow for multiple shipments from one customer order when forecasting labels, cartons and support work.
- Confirm the current FBF or NFBF charges before calculating margin.
- Make sure staff or systems can print labels and invoices and update shipment states promptly.
- For self ship, verify delivery coverage and post-delivery capabilities before accepting higher sale volume.
Common misunderstandings and the practical correction
| Misunderstanding | What the documented process supports |
|---|---|
| Every sale order arrives in one parcel. | One order can split into several shipments, including shipments from different sellers. |
| A sale guarantees faster delivery. | Sale participation does not establish a universal delivery guarantee; use the estimate on the order. |
| The seller can fulfil from whichever warehouse has stock. | Flipkart assigns a seller location and the documentation says the seller must fulfil from that location. |
| NFBF means the seller delivers the parcel all the way to the buyer. | NFBF leaves storage and packing with the seller, then uses a scheduled Flipkart-agent pickup; Flipkart provides delivery tracking and return support. |
| Standard Fulfilment and FBF are always the same service. | Standard is an API-described workflow; service labels and dashboard options may differ. |
| A thermal printer is required. | Shipping labels and invoices are required; a thermal printer is only an optional volume-printing tool. |
| The public rate card is a permanent price list. | Fees can change and depend on account and order factors; verify current charges while logged in. |
Bottom line for buyers and sellers
For buyers, a Flipkart sale order follows the shipment route assigned to that particular purchase. Check each shipment’s estimate and tracking, then use the logged-in Help Centre path for delivery, cancellation, return or refund issues. For sellers, fulfilment choice determines who stores, packs, hands over, delivers and supports the order. FBF shifts more physical work to Flipkart; NFBF keeps storage and packing with the seller before Flipkart pickup; Standard and Self Ship describe distinct API responsibilities. None of these labels turns every sale into an identical delivery promise.
