If you are missing or need to update an entry, use the ECI form for that specific change. A Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a separate, time-bound exercise; its schedule and procedures depend on the Election Commission of India (ECI) order and the state or union territory concerned.
Check whether you are enrolled
Use the ECI electoral-search service to search for your entry, and check the roll applicable to the constituency where you ordinarily reside. The ECI also provides electoral-roll and form services through its citizen portal. An old roll printout or an EPIC card alone does not establish that you appear in the operative roll.

If a search does not find you, first make sure you are checking the correct constituency and current roll. If your name is absent, apply for new enrolment using Form 6 and follow the Electoral Registration Officer’s (ERO’s) verification and decision process. Check the relevant ECI or Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) notice for the applicable qualifying date and any local instructions.
Who is eligible to register?
Under the ECI’s eligibility guidance, an elector must be an Indian citizen, at least 18 on a qualifying date, ordinarily resident in the relevant polling area, and not disqualified under law. The ECI lists January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 as qualifying dates. These are the dates used to assess age eligibility; check the current ECI guidance and the applicable roll schedule for your application.

Choose the form that matches the change
The ECI’s forms address different kinds of applications. Select the form for the action you need rather than treating all updates as one process.
| Form | Use it for | Source and scope |
|---|---|---|
| Form 6 | New ordinary enrolment as an elector. | ECI voter-registration guidance. |
| Form 6A | Enrolment as an overseas elector. ECI describes this category as an Indian citizen who has not acquired another country’s citizenship and is otherwise eligible. | ECI voter-registration guidance. |
| Form 7 | A request for deletion or an objection to an inclusion in the roll. | ECI voter-registration guidance. |
| Form 8 | Shifting residence, correcting particulars, requesting a replacement EPIC, or marking a person with disability (PwD). | ECI voter-registration guidance. |
Use the current official form service and provide the information it requests. A change of residence, a correction, and a move to another constituency may have different evidence or routing requirements; follow the instructions attached to your application rather than assuming they are interchangeable.
How ordinary roll updates differ from a Special Intensive Revision
Ordinary roll maintenance handles individual applications for additions, deletions and corrections. An SIR is a broader, area-wide enumeration exercise conducted on a defined schedule. It does not simply replace the usual forms process.

The ECI’s 2025 order described migration and duplicate entries among the concerns behind intensive verification. Its May 14, 2026 order set out a revised process for the states and union territories listed in that order. These are dated, jurisdiction-specific directions—not a single permanent calendar or identical procedure for every part of India.

What to expect during the SIR process
Enumeration and draft publication
For jurisdictions covered by the ECI’s May 14, 2026 order, the Commission states: “No document is to be collected from electors during the Enumeration Phase.” The order describes house-to-house enumeration using pre-filled enumeration forms, followed by publication of a draft roll and a period for claims and objections. The rule about documents applies to the enumeration phase under that order; it does not mean that documents can never be requested later.
Notices in certain prior-roll linking cases
After draft publication, the order directs an ERO to issue a notice where a person could not be linked, or where there is a discrepancy in linking, with the electoral roll of the last revision. The ECI’s wording is: “ERO to issue notice to those persons who could not be linked or there is discrepancy in their linking with the electoral roll of the last revision.” This instruction is specific to the process in that order; it should not be read as requiring every elector to submit the same documents at the same stage.
Check the notice and local schedule
If you receive a notice, read the stated reason, response deadline and documentary instructions. Respond through the channel identified in the notice and keep a copy of what you submit. ECI’s May 14, 2026 order also describes public access to certain lists of electors omitted from the draft roll and the probable reasons recorded for forms that were not returned. Consult the applicable state or UT notice for the actual schedule and instructions; the order’s details do not establish one live deadline for all jurisdictions.
If the ERO decides against your application or response
The ECI order cites an appeal from an ERO decision to the District Magistrate, followed by a second appeal to the Chief Electoral Officer. Check the written decision and current directions for the filing process and deadline that apply to your case; the cited appeal route does not establish one universal deadline for every kind of decision.
