Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteDome Keeper is built around a repeating risk decision: leave the dome to mine an alien planet for resources and gadgets, then return before the next monster wave reaches the surface. The deeper and longer you explore, the more valuable your haul may be—but the less preparation time remains for the attack. After every wave, what you brought home funds upgrades that determine how efficiently you can mine and how well the dome can survive the next assault.
That alternating rhythm—dig, transport, defend, upgrade—makes each run a chain of time-management choices rather than a straight campaign. Procedurally generated maps and selectable keepers, domes, and gadgets alter the tools available to you, while enemies approaching from the air or ground force you to adapt your defensive priorities.

The loop in one sentence: mine, return, defend, improve
Every run repeatedly moves between two jobs that compete for the same clock:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Mine underground. Leave the dome, carve tunnels and search for resources or useful gadgets.
- Return to the dome. Carry what you found back to the surface before the next attack arrives.
- Defend against a wave. Operate the dome’s weapons against monsters that approach through the air or across the ground.
- Spend the haul. Use delivered resources to improve weapons, drilling, movement, repairs or other available systems.
Steam’s game description frames the central question as whether to “delve deeper” or return to prepare for an imminent attack. The official Godot showcase describes the same rhythm: dig for materials or artifacts, watch the time and get back to meet the next wave. There is no permanently safe phase. Mining creates the resources that make later defense possible, but every minute spent below the dome is time not spent preparing at the surface.

What happens during the mining phase
Choose how far to push underground
Mining is not simply a resource-gathering intermission. It is the part of the run where you decide how much risk to accept before the next attack. A shallow trip can get you back quickly and leave more time for defense. A deeper expedition can expose additional deposits, artifacts or gadgets, but increases the distance and time required to return.
The map is procedurally generated, so the arrangement of tunnels and discoveries changes from run to run. You cannot rely on a memorized route or a fixed sequence of rewards. Instead, each expedition asks you to read the available terrain, judge the value of a detour and keep a margin for the trip home.
Drilling and movement determine your effective range
Two upgrades directly shape how much territory one mining trip can cover: drill strength and movement speed. Stronger drilling lets you open routes through the underground more efficiently; faster movement shortens travel and transport time. Their value is connected to your chosen objective. If reaching a distant resource is the limiting factor, movement can increase the number of locations you can visit before an attack. If hard terrain is slowing every route, drill improvements can make the same time budget go further.

Bring resources and gadgets home
Finding an item underground is not enough. Resources and gadgets must be delivered to the dome before they can influence the run’s upgrade choices or add new options. A distant discovery therefore has two costs: the time to reach it and the time to transport it back.
This transport requirement creates a practical rule for exploration: evaluate a discovery by its complete round trip, not by its position on the map. A valuable find at the end of a difficult tunnel may be less useful than a modest deposit that can be collected and returned before the next wave.
Returning to the dome is a strategic checkpoint
Watch the attack warning, not just the resource count
The next wave is the hard deadline for every mining trip. The game does not reward staying underground until every visible resource is collected if doing so leaves the dome unprepared. As the attack approaches, the value of another deposit must be weighed against the time needed to reach the surface, position yourself and handle the first targets.

Use the warning as a planning checkpoint. When the remaining time no longer supports a safe round trip, stop searching and return. This is especially important after moving into deeper sections, where a delayed decision can turn a profitable expedition into a damaged dome with no opportunity to spend the resources you found.

Why a partial haul can be the correct result
Resources are useful only if the dome survives long enough to spend them. Returning with a smaller load preserves defensive readiness and keeps the upgrade cycle moving. A run that repeatedly survives with modest hauls can build strength more reliably than one that reaches deep deposits but fails to defend the surface.
How the defense phase works
Operate the dome’s weapons directly
When monsters arrive, the focus shifts from navigation to aiming and target selection. You operate the dome’s weaponry against enemies attacking from the air or ground. Those groups do not share one movement pattern or attack method, so the first target is a meaningful decision rather than a cosmetic choice.
Airborne threats may require attention that ground attackers do not, while a ground enemy that is already close can represent a more immediate danger. The sources establish different movement and attack behaviors but do not provide a universal priority order or fixed enemy statistics. Treat the wave as a live assessment: identify which attacker is advancing fastest, which is damaging the dome or which threat your current weapon handles most effectively.
Repairs and upgrades keep the dome in the cycle
Defense is not isolated from mining. Damage absorbed during a wave affects how safely you can begin the next expedition, and repairs help restore the structure for another cycle. Upgrades can improve the dome’s weapons and defenses, making future waves more manageable and giving you more freedom to spend time underground.

The key is to preserve enough defensive capability that the next trip is a calculated risk, not a desperate gamble. A stronger weapon may shorten a wave, while a defensive improvement can provide more tolerance for a mistake or an unfavorable enemy mix. Which one matters more depends on the threats reaching the dome and the limitations of your current setup.
Where the resources go after a wave
Resources delivered to the dome unlock upgrade decisions. The documented upgrade categories include:
- Weapons: improve the tools used to stop incoming monsters.
- Dome defenses and repairs: help the structure withstand attacks and recover between waves.
- Drill strength: increases underground excavation capability.
- Movement speed: reduces travel time while exploring and returning.
- Gadgets: add alternative functions or new tactical options to a run.
These categories create a two-sided economy. Mining upgrades increase the amount or quality of resources you can obtain before a wave; defensive upgrades increase the chance that the dome will still be standing to spend those resources. Investing exclusively in one side can expose the other: a very efficient miner may return to a weak defense, while a heavily armed dome may lack the reach or speed needed to fund its next improvements.
Keeper, dome and gadget choices change the run
Before or during a run, you can choose among keeper types, domes and gadgets. Those selections change the available playstyle and the upgrade decisions that follow. A setup may favor rapid movement and frequent short expeditions; another may emphasize stronger drilling and longer-term resource collection; a third may offer defensive flexibility against different attackers.

Compare a setup along four practical axes:
| Comparison axis | Question to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Mining speed and reach | How quickly can you open routes and reach distant deposits? | Determines how much of the map fits inside one attack cycle. |
| Resource transport | How easily can you return with what you found? | Affects whether discoveries become usable upgrades before the wave. |
| Defense coverage | How well does the setup handle air and ground attackers? | Changes target priorities and the margin for error during a wave. |
| Flexibility | How many different problems can the keeper, dome and gadgets address? | Helps when procedural terrain or enemy behavior does not match your preferred plan. |
The available material does not establish a universally best combination. The stronger choice is the one that addresses your current bottleneck and fits the way you are managing the mine-to-defense timetable.
A practical decision framework for each cycle
At the start of a mining trip
- Check the dome’s current condition and the next attack warning.
- Identify the nearest useful resource or gadget rather than committing immediately to the deepest route.
- Choose a path that leaves a clear return route; exploration is safer when you know how to get back.
- Decide in advance what signal will trigger your return, such as a shrinking time margin or a full transport load.
While underground
- Prioritize discoveries that improve the current run’s largest limitation—drilling, movement, transport or defense.
- Reassess the round-trip cost after every detour.
- Avoid treating unexplored distance as automatically valuable; procedural maps can place a costly route between you and the dome.
- Turn back while you still have time to arrive, unload and prepare rather than waiting for the final warning.
During the wave
- Scan for both air and ground attackers.
- Prioritize the threat that is closest to damaging the dome or that your available weapon can eliminate most efficiently.
- Use the dome’s weapons actively instead of assuming one target order works for every wave.
- After the attack, repair what is necessary and spend resources on the upgrade that best supports the next cycle.
Why procedural maps make adaptation essential
Procedural generation means every run rearranges the underground challenge. The same keeper or dome can therefore produce different decisions depending on where resources, artifacts and difficult terrain appear. A route that was efficient in one run may be too long or poorly positioned in the next.
This variability also prevents a single opening sequence from solving the game. You need a repeatable method—check the clock, estimate the return trip, identify the current bottleneck and select a compatible upgrade—rather than a rigid script. The fixed element is the loop; the map, discoveries and enemy approaches supply the variation.

Dome Keeper turns ordinary upgrade choices into timing choices. Every improvement has an opportunity cost because resources came from a trip that exposed the dome to the next wave. Mining farther can accelerate future growth, but only if you return in time. Returning early protects the current cycle, but may delay a powerful upgrade. Defense buys safety, while mining upgrades buy future income.
Raw Fury’s Xbox Wire overview, published December 9, 2025, described the game as a roguelike action game in which players explore an alien planet by mining, collect resources and gadgets, and upgrade the dome against monsters attacking in waves. That article reported more than two million players since the September 2022 release; it is a historical figure attributed to that article and date, not a current player count.
The result is a run structure where progress is measured less by a permanent checklist than by how well you balance the next expedition against the next attack. If you consistently return with usable resources, select upgrades that remove your current bottleneck and handle both air and ground threats, the loop itself supplies the path to stronger runs.
