To make someone a favorite on a Samsung Galaxy, open Contacts, tap Add your favorite contacts, choose one or more people, then tap Done. Favorites appear at the top of Contacts, while those people remain in your full contact list.
How to add one or more favorite contacts
Samsung’s current US instructions offer two ways to mark contacts as favorites. Use the list method to select several people at once, or the contact-card method to favorite one person.

Select favorites from the Contacts list

Open Contacts and tap Add your favorite contacts at the top.

Search for a person or browse the list, then select the contact or contacts you want to favorite.

Tap Done. The selected people appear under Favorites at the top of Contacts.
Favorite a person from their contact card

In Contacts, open the person’s contact record.

Tap Favorites or the star icon at the bottom of the screen. Samsung says the star turns yellow when the contact is favorited.

The contact stays in the general contacts list as well as appearing in Favorites. Samsung’s US support guide describes both ways to add a favorite.

How to remove someone from Favorites
Open the person’s contact record and tap the Favorites star again. Samsung says it turns white when the contact is no longer a favorite. This removes the favorite designation; it does not delete the contact from your address book. Samsung US Support

How to change the order of Favorites

Open Contacts.

Tap More options (the three vertical dots), then choose Reorder Favorites.

Drag contacts using the arrows to put them in your preferred order.

What if these buttons are missing?
Samsung notes that the steps and labels can differ by device model and operating system. Its US guide uses Add your favorite contacts and a star on the contact card; another Samsung support page describes interface differences across Android versions and regions, including older layouts that use a star in the contact record or a Favorites tab in the Phone app. These examples are not a universal version-by-version map. Samsung Russia’s contact-sorting guide, updated January 19, 2026, gives those version-specific examples.

In Contacts, open the person’s record and look for a star or Favorites control if the list shortcut is absent.
