After deleting only those cache folders, relaunch Epic Games Launcher. Epic says it will rebuild the necessary files. See Epic’s cache-clearing instructions.
Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache on Windows
- Exit the Launcher completely. Click the up-arrow in the notification area, right-click the Epic Games icon, and choose Exit. Closing the main window alone may leave it running.
- Press Windows + R to open Run.
- Enter
%localappdata%and press Enter. - Open
EpicGamesLauncher, thenSaved. - Delete whichever of these folders exist:
webcache,webcache_4147, andwebcache_4430. Epic notes that only one or two may be present. - Start Epic Games Launcher again.
Do not delete the entire Saved folder or unrelated directories in AppData. The documented procedure targets the specifically named web-cache folders.
Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache on macOS
- Quit Epic Games Launcher.
- In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder….
- Enter
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncherand press Enter. - Move the
webcachefolder to the Trash. - Control-click the Trash and choose Empty Trash.
- Relaunch Epic Games Launcher.
The Library folder can be hidden when browsing normally, so Finder’s Go to Folder field is the reliable route.

What clearing this cache can help with
The web cache stores temporary information used by the Launcher’s interface. Removing it may help when the Launcher has broken or missing elements, display errors, freezes, crashes, loading loops, or errors that interfere with downloading or launching a game. Epic describes cache clearing as one troubleshooting step, not a universal repair; its broader guidance also includes checking service status, updating the Launcher, reviewing system requirements, using administrator mode, updating graphics drivers, and reinstalling when necessary (Epic troubleshooting guidance).
What this does—and does not—remove
- It removes temporary data belonging to the installed Epic Games Launcher.
- It is not a procedure for deleting a game installation, repairing corrupted game files, clearing cloud saves, resetting graphics shaders, or clearing a console’s system cache.
- It is also different from clearing a web browser’s cache; browser cleanup does not necessarily affect the Launcher application.
Because the official steps name only the Launcher cache folders, stay within those paths. Do not treat this as a guarantee about every kind of saved game or account data, and do not use it as a reason to remove broader Epic directories. Epic’s instructions do not describe it as a guaranteed sign-out or account reset.

If the cache folders are missing
Not every Windows installation has all three folders, and macOS may not show a webcache folder until the Launcher has created it. Delete only folders that are actually present. If none appears, return to the normal troubleshooting flow rather than guessing at another AppData or Library directory.
If Windows or macOS will not let you delete the folder
- Confirm that the Launcher was exited from the Windows notification area or quit in macOS.
- On Windows, open Task Manager and close any remaining Epic Games Launcher process. On macOS, open Activity Monitor and quit a remaining Launcher process.
- Try deleting the named cache folder again.
- If it is still locked, restart the computer and repeat the procedure.
These process-check and restart steps are practical operating-system fallbacks. They do not justify deleting unrelated Epic folders.

Cache clearing did not solve the problem: what to try next
- Restart the computer. This clears a stuck process and tests whether the issue was temporary.
- Check Epic’s service status. An outage can cause login, loading, download, or launch failures that local cache deletion cannot fix.
- Check for Launcher updates. An outdated client may contain a defect already corrected in a newer build.
- Run as administrator on Windows. Right-click the Launcher shortcut and choose Run as administrator when permissions are suspected.
- Update graphics drivers if the symptom is rendering corruption, crashing, or a blank interface.
- Verify the affected game. In the Library, open the game’s options menu and use its Verify command when files are missing, corrupted, or the game alone crashes. Verification is separate from Launcher-cache cleanup.
- Reinstall the Launcher last. Use this only after the less disruptive checks and after confirming that the issue is with the Launcher itself.
Launcher cache, game cache, browser cache, or console cache?
Individual game files
If only Fortnite, Rocket League, or another single game fails while the Launcher works normally, investigate that game’s files and settings first. Use Verify rather than deleting the installation directory.
Browser cache
Clearing Chrome, Edge, Safari, or another browser’s cache affects the browser session, not necessarily the installed Epic Games Launcher.

Consoles
The documented paths above are for Windows and macOS. They are not universal PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch instructions. Console users should follow the console maker’s cache or power-cycle procedure, or the game’s platform-specific support guidance; there is no single Epic console folder to delete from these PC directions.

Will clearing the Launcher cache log me out?
Epic’s instructions describe rebuilding temporary Launcher files, not resetting credentials or guaranteeing a sign-out. If the Launcher asks you to authenticate again, complete its normal sign-in process.
Does clearing cache improve download speed?
It is not a speed-enhancement procedure. It may help a download or update that is stuck because of faulty Launcher-side temporary data, but network, service, disk-space, permissions, and game-file problems require different fixes.
Why did the webcache folder come back?
The Launcher recreates required cache files when it starts. Its return is expected; the relevant question is whether the original display, loading, or error symptom has changed.
Can I clear the cache if Epic Games Launcher will not open?
Yes, provided the application is fully stopped first. Exit its tray process on Windows or quit it on macOS; if necessary, end the remaining process in Task Manager or Activity Monitor before deleting the named folder.
