Dasa could become a meaningful new uranium source, but it is not yet confirmed as a producing mine or a source of commercial deliveries. Global Atomic’s 2024 feasibility study projects 68.1 million pounds of U3O8 over a 23.75-year mine plan; averaged across that period, that is about 2.87 million pounds of U3O8 a year, or roughly 1,100 tonnes of uranium (tU). That calculated average is small relative to annual global reactor requirements—and it is not a forecast of Dasa’s year-by-year output.

How much uranium is Dasa expected to produce?

Global Atomic’s 2024 feasibility study sets out a 23.75-year mine plan spanning 2026–2049, with 73 million pounds of U3O8 in mineral reserves and 68.1 million pounds of planned production. These are company study figures, not uranium already produced or delivered.

Dividing the planned total by 23.75 years gives an approximate average of 2.87 million pounds of U3O8 per year. Using the uranium share of U3O8 by mass (about 84.8%), that is roughly 1,100 tU per year. Both annualized figures are calculations from the study’s life-of-mine total; they do not show the mine’s expected ramp-up, annual production profile or actual output.

How does that compare with global production and reactor demand?

The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency’s September 2026 summary of Uranium 2026 reports that mines produced 61,924 tU in 2024, the highest annual total since 2016. It estimates annual reactor requirements at about 64,500 tU, based on 418 operating commercial reactors and 378 GWe of net capacity as of 1 January 2025.

Dasa planned production 68.1 million lb U3O8 Company feasibility-study total across a 23.75-year plan (2026–2049); not realized supply.
Dasa simple annualized average About 2.87 million lb U3O8, or roughly 1,100 tU Calculated by dividing the mine-plan total by 23.75 years and converting U3O8 mass to uranium mass; not a year-by-year production forecast.
Global mine production 61,924 tU Actual production in calendar year 2024, as reported by the OECD NEA in 2026.
Global reactor requirements About 64,500 tU Annual estimate in the OECD NEA’s 2026 summary, based on the reactor fleet and capacity as of 1 January 2025.

On this rough annualized basis, Dasa’s study-case average is about 1.7% of the NEA’s annual reactor-requirement estimate and about 1.8% of 2024 mine production. The denominators describe an annual flow; Dasa’s 68.1 million pounds is a lifetime total. Comparing that total directly with one year of global demand would make Dasa appear far larger than its annual contribution.

The difference between 2024 mine production and the NEA’s annual requirement estimate is about 2,576 tU, but that subtraction is not a complete measure of a market deficit. Mine production is only one supply source: inventories and secondary supply also matter, as do contracting and stages of the fuel cycle such as conversion and enrichment. The figures here do not establish the size of an overall market shortfall.

When could Dasa supply utilities?

Dasa is in Niger, within the Adrar Emoles III licence area, 105 km south of Arlit. Global Atomic says the project operates through SOMIDA, in which the company holds an 80% interest and Niger holds 20%.

In its latest project-page update, labeled Q1–Q2 2026, Global Atomic reported continued underground development toward the fourth level, development ore brought to the surface, installation of underground ventilation, electrical and water systems, ongoing detailed engineering and component orders for the processing plant, and first-phase plant earthworks more than 95% complete. These are company-reported construction milestones; they do not establish that the plant was complete, commissioned or producing saleable uranium.

An earlier OECD NEA Red Book excerpt had projected a first utility delivery in 2025, based on the situation described in that report. That date has passed. The newer company update does not give a definitive replacement date for first production or delivery, so a current start date cannot be confirmed from these sources.

How would Dasa’s uranium reach the supply chain?

The planned route is a sequence, not a single production milestone:

  1. Develop the mine and extract ore. Underground development is under way, and the company says development ore has been brought to the surface.
  2. Process the ore. The processing plant still has engineering, component-order and construction work reported in the Q1–Q2 2026 update; commissioning is not confirmed there.
  3. Produce yellowcake. The mine plan envisages U3O8 concentrate, commonly called yellowcake, but the sources do not confirm commercial production.
  4. Deliver under utility contracts. Delivery is the final step, and no commercial utility delivery is confirmed in the latest company update.

Global Atomic reported that, as of the end of 2024, contracts covered 43% of projected production during the first five operating years. The company also said those contracts represented 11.5% of its 68.1-million-pound total mine-plan production. The percentages have different denominators: one refers to output in the first five operating years, the other to the entire planned mine life. The company additionally reported a utility agreement for 260,000 pounds of U3O8 per year for three years. Its public project-page summary does not name the counterparties or establish that deliveries have begun.

Why can a planned mine matter before it produces?

Uranium supply depends on projects being advanced well before the material is needed. The OECD NEA’s 2026 release gives a typical lead time of 15–20 years for uranium mining projects and calls for projects to be identified, permitted and advanced to reduce future supply risks. That is general sector context, not a Dasa-specific schedule.

The NEA’s 2025 summary of Uranium 2024 reported 7,934,500 tonnes of identified recoverable uranium resources as of 1 January 2023. It said the resource base could support nuclear capacity through 2050 and beyond, while stressing that investment in exploration, mining and processing is needed to make uranium available when required. A resource estimate describes material that may be recoverable; it does not mean that material is already mined, processed or promptly deliverable.

That distinction is central to Dasa’s prospective role. Its study-case production could add a new source to the mined supply chain if development, plant completion, commissioning and contracted delivery proceed. But the project’s potential contribution should not be treated as current supply, and the available project update does not resolve when first commercial deliveries may occur.
