Asian Games cricket is played in the T20 format: each team bats once and can face up to 20 six-ball overs, or 120 balls. The side that scores more runs wins. For Aichi-Nagoya 2026, the men’s and women’s competitions use different tournament formats. The exact event procedures for a tied match or rain interruption are not established in the available event-specific rules, so they should not be inferred from a past result.
How a T20 cricket match works
Each team has 11 players. One team bats while the other fields; then they switch roles. Two batters are on the pitch at a time, and the batting side tries to score as many runs as possible before using its overs or losing 10 wickets.

An over consists of six balls. A side may face up to 20 overs, which means a maximum of 120 balls in a full innings. An innings ends earlier if the team loses 10 wickets. The Japanese Olympic Committee’s cricket rules overview describes the basic format and common dismissals, including being bowled, caught or run out.

How runs are scored
- Batters can hit the ball and run between the wickets, exchanging ends to score runs.
- A ball that crosses the boundary after bouncing is worth four runs.
- A ball that crosses the boundary without bouncing is worth six runs.
How to follow the chase
The team batting second is chasing the first team’s total. It wins by passing that score before it runs out of overs or loses all 10 wickets. Run rate means runs scored per over; the required rate indicates how quickly the chasing team needs to score to reach its target. A rising required rate can make a chase more difficult to follow, especially if the batting side has fallen behind.

How long does an Asian Games cricket match take?
The Japanese Olympic Committee’s Aichi-Nagoya 2026 event page estimates that a T20 match takes about three hours. That is an approximate duration, not a guaranteed start-to-finish time. See the JOC’s event overview.
How the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 tournaments are structured
The match format and tournament format are separate: T20 determines how an individual match is played, while the tournament structure determines how teams advance.

What happens if an Asian Games cricket match is tied?
The event-specific procedure for a tied match in Aichi-Nagoya 2026 is not established by the sources cited here. A tied score should not be confused with a tie in a tournament group table: the first is an outcome within a match, while the second concerns how teams are ranked across multiple matches. The applicable competition rules are needed to say how either situation is resolved.

The specific Aichi-Nagoya 2026 rules for a rain-reduced match or an abandoned knockout are not confirmed by the event information cited here. The ICC’s playing-conditions index lists T20I documents dated October 2026, but an index does not show that those clauses govern this multisport competition. The OCA’s 2014 Incheon cricket handbook said that competition would follow ICC rules in force during that Games and referred tied group points to ICC regulations. That is historical context, not confirmation of Aichi-Nagoya procedures.

For a definitive answer about a particular tied, rain-interrupted or abandoned 2026 match, consult the event’s cricket technical handbook or competition playing conditions. Without that event-specific document, naming a particular tie-break method would go beyond the confirmed information.
