The clearest user-checkable sign is the Liquid Damage Indicator (LDI) inside the SIM or microSD tray area, if your model has an accessible one. A solid pink, purple, or red LDI indicates liquid exposure under Samsung’s guidance—but it does not show how much internal damage occurred. A water-drop icon is different: it signals moisture detected in the USB port and does not, by itself, prove the whole phone has water damage.
Check the Liquid Damage Indicator in the SIM tray area
On models with an accessible LDI, Samsung’s instructions are to switch off the phone, remove the SIM or microSD tray, and shine a flashlight into the slot. Use the supplied SIM ejector tool to remove the tray. Its location and the indicator’s availability can vary by model, so follow the instructions for your specific device if the design differs. Samsung’s LDI guidance describes the following color interpretation:

- White, or white with light pink or purple marks: Samsung describes this as no moisture exposure. It is not a complete diagnosis, so seek support if the phone has symptoms or was known to get wet.
A phone that still turns on is not necessarily undamaged. Samsung warns that internal damage or corrosion may occur even when the device appears to work normally and recommends inspection after exposure. Samsung’s post-exposure guidance explains the recommended response.

Understand what the water-drop icon means
A water-drop icon or moisture-detected warning points to moisture detected in the USB charging port. The phone may disable charging to protect it. This is not the same as a positive LDI and does not prove that liquid reached other internal components. Samsung also notes that high humidity can trigger the warning without direct water exposure. Samsung’s moisture-warning guidance covers the alert and charging behavior.

Unplug the charger when the warning appears. Gently wipe the phone with a soft, dry cloth and let it air-dry in a well-ventilated place. Do not insert objects into the port. Samsung UK says moisture may evaporate in approximately 1 to 2 hours, but do not treat that estimate as permission to charge while the port or phone remains wet. Samsung UK’s charging-port instructions describe this drying guidance.
Compare the signs and what they establish

What to do if the phone got wet
Act according to the device’s water-resistance status and the type of liquid. Do not connect a charger or accessories until the phone is completely dry.

If the model is water-resistant
For a water-resistant Galaxy exposed to dirty water or other liquids, Samsung US advises rinsing with clean water for 1 to 3 minutes, then wiping and drying the device completely. Follow that advice only if your specific model supports water resistance. Samsung’s guidance for liquid exposure also explains how to respond to a non-water-resistant phone.

Turn it off immediately, remove removable cards and accessories, wipe it dry, and seek inspection. If moisture may remain inside, do not turn it back on after drying the exterior. When the rating is unknown, check the exact model’s support information before applying rinsing advice.

Avoid damaging drying methods
- Do not use a hair dryer or other heat source.
- Do not use compressed air, abrasive materials, or chemical cleaners.
- Do not connect a charger or accessory while the device is wet.
Samsung warns these methods can cause discoloration, corrosion, or permanent damage. Its Saudi support guidance also describes gently shaking the phone with the port facing down; do not put objects into the port. Samsung’s instructions for a moisture warning provide the regional guidance.
Water resistance is not a guarantee against damage
Ratings and model availability vary. Samsung Canada gives these reference conditions: IPX7 means 30 minutes at 1 meter, and IPX8 means 30 minutes at 1.5 meters. The IPX8 example was tested in still fresh water without movement under IEC 60529 certification conditions; these are laboratory conditions, not a guarantee for every real-world exposure. Samsung Canada’s water-resistance guidance notes that deeper water, pressure, longer exposure, contaminants, and device condition affect protection. Samsung also says water resistance is not permanent and can weaken with ordinary wear. Check the exact model and regional support page rather than assuming every Samsung phone has the same rating.

Check repair coverage before arranging service
Warranty and protection terms depend on region and plan. Samsung Saudi Arabia states that liquid damage is considered physical damage and is not covered under the Samsung Limited Warranty. That statement is specific to the cited regional guidance; check the warranty terms that apply where the phone was purchased. Samsung Saudi Arabia’s LDI guidance includes its warranty statement.
Samsung US describes Samsung Care+ as providing accidental-damage protection that can include liquid damage claims. Coverage, deductibles, documents, service routes, and availability vary by country, region, and local provider. Check your own plan’s terms before assuming a repair is covered.
