The possible contents can include standard figures and rarer “secret,” “hidden,” or “chase” figures. Your result depends on the exact series, packing format, seller and region—not on a universal blind-box odds system.
Before buying, verify the series contents and any disclosed probabilities, find out whether you are buying one box or a whole set, and read the seller’s duplicate, return and defect terms. If you get a repeat, trading is a practical option, but no universal trading protection or guaranteed swap process exists.

What a blind box buyer knows before opening
A blind box collectible is a toy or figure enclosed in packaging that conceals its identity. The outside normally identifies the collection or series and may show the possible characters, poses or colorways. It does not normally identify which particular figure is in your box.
The reveal is the product’s central mechanic. A series can contain common designs plus a smaller set of secret, hidden or chase designs. The exact names and contents differ by series. POP MART’s US FAQ describes secret editions as having a chance that varies by series, except where a series is specifically marked as including one. That is a statement about that company’s products, not a standard for every blind-box maker.

What the buying sequence looks like
- Choose a specific series. The series name, edition and region matter because contents and policies can change.
- Select a sales format. You may be offered one random box, several random boxes, a partial set or a listed whole set.
- Check the disclosed information. Look for the possible figures, secret designation, distribution or probability information, and the seller’s terms.
- Open the packaging. Only then do you learn which design you received, unless the listing explicitly identifies the contents.
“Random” does not mean that every design has the same chance. Unless the manufacturer or seller gives a distribution, you cannot responsibly assign equal odds to the figures shown on the box.
How blind-box odds actually work
Odds belong to a particular series and sometimes to a particular purchase format. A probability printed for one collection cannot be transferred to another collection, even when the boxes look similar. The POP MART US FAQ explicitly says secret chances vary by series and that a secret is not guaranteed.
Chance is not a promise
A stated chance describes likelihood, not a required outcome in a small purchase. If a listing says a secret is possible, that means you might receive one; it does not mean a single box, a certain number of boxes or a whole set must contain one. A series marked as having a secret included is a different product claim from a series in which a secret merely has a stated chance.

Use only the odds for the product you are buying

What probability math can—and cannot—tell you
If a series discloses a probability p for a figure and each purchase is genuinely independent with the same probability, the chance of seeing that figure at least once in n purchases is 1 − (1 − p)n. That formula is a way to interpret a valid disclosure; it is not evidence that any particular series uses independent draws. Do not use it when the product gives no probability, when the probability applies to a different format, or when the seller has not explained how boxes are packed.
There is no sourced “typical” blind-box pull rate, market-wide sales figure or universal secret percentage. Treat calculators and community estimates as irrelevant to your purchase unless they match the exact series, edition and format and can be traced to an authoritative disclosure.
Why governments treat odds as a disclosure issue
Rules and proposals are jurisdiction-specific. China’s State Administration for Market Regulation issued trial guidance dated June 15, 2023. It says key information such as draw rules, product distribution, quantities of limited items, draw probability and value range should be prominently disclosed. The guidance also addresses record keeping and misleading promotion. It should be described as Chinese trial guidance, not as a worldwide blind-box law.

Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs said on February 12, 2026, that regulations were being drafted and that mandatory standardized disclosure of odds and probability ranges would be considered. That statement did not say such a requirement was already in force. A buyer in Singapore should therefore check the current rule and the seller’s terms rather than assuming a proposed standard applies.
Duplicates: the normal result collectors often underestimate
Buying random individual boxes can produce the same figure more than once. The same is true of a partial purchase containing fewer boxes than the series offers. In its UK after-sales policy, POP MART says duplicates in individual or non-whole-set purchases are normal and are not a quality issue. Its Singapore policy makes a similar distinction and states that a duplicate from a non-whole set is not, by itself, a valid after-sales reason.
Individual boxes, partial sets and whole sets

Regional POP MART policies treat a duplicate in a purchased whole set differently from a duplicate in a partial purchase, subject to verification and the applicable terms. That does not establish a rule for every seller. A listing that says “full set” might mean a manufacturer-packed assortment, a seller-assembled group or a set with a particular figure count, so read its definition.

How to decide whether a whole set fits your goal
- Choose a whole set when your priority is obtaining the listed standard lineup and the seller clearly identifies what is included.
- Choose random singles when the reveal is the main entertainment and you accept the possibility of repeats.
- Do not buy a whole set solely because you expect it to contain a secret unless the listing expressly guarantees that outcome.
- If you want one specific character, compare the predictable cost of a confirmed figure with the uncertain total cost of repeated random purchases.
A buying checklist for a specific series
Use this checklist on the exact product page, not on a general brand page:
- Confirm authenticity and seller identity. Check that the seller is authorized or otherwise credible, and that the packaging, series name and edition match the listing.
- Read the contents list. Record the standard designs, any secret or chase figures, and the number of figures in a set.
- Find the odds disclosure. If no probability or distribution is provided, label the outcome as unknown rather than assuming equal chances.
- Match the odds to the format. A figure distribution for a factory case may not describe a single-box listing or a seller-assembled bundle.
- Check the duplicate rule. Determine whether a repeat is considered a normal result and whether whole-set purchases receive different treatment.
- Read return and defect terms for your region. Separate change-of-mind returns from faulty, damaged or misdescribed goods.
- Calculate your maximum spend. Include shipping, taxes and the possibility of paying for repeats or a confirmed trade later.
- Save the listing and receipt. Keep the description, stated odds, order format and seller communications in case the delivered item differs from what was advertised.
Opening, returns and defective figures
Opening a mystery product can affect a change-of-mind return. POP MART UK’s stated policy says opened blind boxes are not eligible for change-of-mind returns, while distinguishing faulty or misdescribed goods. POP MART Singapore has its own after-sales time limits and says those terms do not exclude applicable consumer guarantees. These are regional examples, not a universal return policy.
Before you open
- Check whether the seller requires the product to remain sealed for a discretionary return.
- Confirm the deadline and evidence required for a defect claim.
- Keep the outer packaging, inserts and proof of purchase until you have inspected the figure.
If the figure is faulty or misdescribed
Photograph the unopened package, the opened contents, the defect and any identifying label. Contact the seller through the channel named in its policy and describe the problem precisely. A duplicate is generally a result of randomness; a broken part, missing accessory or item that does not match the listing is a different issue. Local consumer law may provide rights beyond the seller’s voluntary policy.

Trading duplicates safely
Trading can turn an unwanted repeat into a figure you actually want. The reviewed policies do not establish a standard platform, escrow service, fee schedule, dispute remedy or guarantee for blind-box trades. Protection depends on the venue and the laws and rules that apply there.
A practical trade workflow
- Identify the exact figure. Use the series name, character name, edition and any color or accessory distinction.
- Describe condition honestly. State whether the figure is sealed, opened, displayed, damaged or missing packaging and accessories.
- Agree on the exchange before shipping. Write down what each person is sending, delivery details and who pays postage.
- Use a venue whose rules you understand. Check whether it records messages, handles disputes or offers any payment protection; do not assume that it does.
- Document the handoff. Keep photographs, tracking information and the final agreement until both sides confirm receipt.
Do not describe a trade as guaranteed or protected unless the specific venue’s published terms say so. If the other party will not identify the exact figure or condition, or pressures you to move outside the venue’s records, decline the exchange.
How to budget when chasing a particular figure
Random buying is entertainment with an uncertain endpoint. Set a spending limit before opening boxes, then decide what you will do if you receive a repeat. You can stop, trade, buy a confirmed figure from a legitimate seller or continue with another random purchase; each choice has a different cost and risk.

When a probability is disclosed, use it to compare scenarios rather than to promise a result. For example, a low stated chance can make several purchases still leave a substantial chance of never seeing the target. When no probability is disclosed, the only defensible assumption is that the chance is unknown. Never advertise or plan around a “usual” secret rate taken from another series.

A random box serves the first goal, a clearly defined whole set may serve the second, and a confirmed purchase or carefully documented trade is usually more predictable for the third. In every case, the exact series, seller, format and regional terms determine what the box can contain and what remedy you have afterward.
