Bill Skarsgård is confirmed as the lead performer in Hideo Kojima’s upcoming game PHYSINT. Kojima Productions says Skarsgård took part in costume fittings, scans and camera tests, but it has not announced his character’s name or said whether he is the game’s only playable character. Here is what is confirmed about the casting and the project as of October 7, 2026.
Bill Skarsgård is PHYSINT’s confirmed lead performer
Kojima Productions announced on September 17, 2026, that Skarsgård will portray the lead role in PHYSINT. Xbox Wire also identifies him as the game’s lead performer. Hideo Kojima, founder of Kojima Productions, said, “I’m delighted to confirm the lead role for PHYSINT will be Bill Skarsgård.” Kojima Productions’ announcement and Xbox Wire’s announcement confirm the casting.

“The face” is useful shorthand for the lead casting and the visual and performance preparation Kojima described. It does not establish that Skarsgård is the only playable character, and the announcements do not give his character a name.

Kojima said costume fittings, scans and camera tests involving Skarsgård and Charlee Fraser took place earlier in 2026. He said the work gave him confidence in the project’s direction. This confirms early visual and performance preparation, but the announcement does not describe a specific capture technique or explain how the resulting material will be used in gameplay.

The studio announced Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe alongside Skarsgård. It has not provided detailed role descriptions for those performers in the announcement, so their characters and relative importance remain unconfirmed.
How Kojima and Skarsgård connected
According to GamesRadar’s October 5, 2026 account of Kojima’s Koji10 podcast remarks, composer Woodkid introduced the two. Woodkid, who worked on the Death Stranding 2 soundtrack and is friends with Skarsgård, reportedly made the introduction; Kojima pitched the game, and Skarsgård agreed. Kojima Productions’ casting announcement separately says the pair are long-time fans of each other’s work.
What PHYSINT is about—and what remains unknown
Kojima Productions describes PHYSINT as an action-espionage game and its third original IP. On the Koji10 podcast, as reported by GamesRadar, Kojima called it a spy game and said, “It’s about spies, but I want plenty of new ideas and a different kind of spy action. It’s quite different.” GamesRadar also reports that Kojima said the story is written, but the script is not finished.
PC Gamer reports that the game’s poster carries the tagline “The Next Cold War Begins.” That line is promotional text, not a confirmed full account of the setting or plot. The available announcements and podcast report do not establish detailed gameplay, a complete synopsis or Skarsgård’s character identity.

Kojima Productions describes Skarsgård as a Swedish actor and producer. Its announcement highlights his performances as Pennywise in It (2017) and It: Chapter Two (2019), as well as credits in Atomic Blonde (2017), Barbarian (2022), John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), Nosferatu (2024), The Crow (2024) and It: Welcome to Derry (2025). Those credits identify work audiences may recognize; they do not indicate what his PHYSINT character will be like.
Xbox will publish PHYSINT; release details are not announced
Xbox Wire says Xbox will publish PHYSINT, describing the announcement as an expansion of its partnership with Kojima Productions, which already includes OD. The reviewed announcements provide no release date, preorder information or retail listing. They also do not establish detailed platform availability beyond Xbox’s announced publishing role.
