How Asia’s AI Hardware Suppliers Are Building Wealth—and What Billionaire Claims Prove

Asia’s AI hardware suppliers can benefit from the data-center buildout, but company growth does not prove that a particular founder or executive became a billionaire because of AI. Taiwan and South Korea occupy important, different positions in the supply chain; the available figures show how business is expanding, not comparable personal net worth or how much of anyone’s wealth AI created.

Why AI demand reaches beyond chip designers

An AI system depends on more than its accelerator. It needs memory, advanced packaging and testing, circuit boards and other components, servers, power and cooling, plus manufacturing and integration capacity. Robeco’s June 2026 analysis maps ten stages of the Taiwanese and Korean hardware ecosystem, from chip design to server building. The OECD’s 2025 report on AI infrastructure competition examines accelerator design, foundries, DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM), and packaging and testing. Taiwan’s industry overview adds examples in advanced packaging, servers, cooling, edge AI and systems integration.

This broad chain creates potential opportunities for firms that supply bottlenecked components or turn parts into working systems. It does not mean every supplier captures the same share of the value: roles, customer exposure, capacity, costs and bargaining power differ.

Where Taiwan and South Korea fit

The two economies have prominent but distinct positions in the chain. Taiwan’s cited strengths span foundry manufacturing, packaging, components and server systems; South Korea is especially visible in memory through Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The descriptions below are examples, not a complete inventory of either country’s industry.

Area Examples and evidence What the evidence establishes
Foundry manufacturing TSMC, Taiwan; the OECD report also discusses Samsung’s role in the semiconductor landscape. The OECD report reproduces estimates for 2024 that TSMC held above 60% of worldwide chip-manufacturing contracts and an estimated 90% of contracts for the most advanced chips. These are dated estimates cited in a 2025 report, not current market shares.
Memory Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, South Korea; HBM is an important memory type for AI systems. The OECD describes concentrated memory supply and HBM’s role in AI infrastructure; it does not establish that every memory supplier benefits equally.
Packaging, components and systems Taiwan’s ecosystem includes advanced packaging, high-end materials, server manufacturing, cooling and system integration, as described by Invest Taiwan’s April 24, 2026 overview. The overview identifies capabilities and constraints; it is not a company-by-company measure of realized sales or profit.

Robeco reported in June 2026 that TSMC, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix together represented around 30% of the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, using index weights from that period. That concentration illustrates the market importance of a few firms; an index weight is neither a measure of personal wealth nor proof that AI alone caused a share-price rise.

How a supplier’s growth could—and could not—make an individual wealthy

A company can grow revenue, win customers or rise in market value without establishing the wealth of any one person. Personal wealth depends in part on what assets a person owns and their value, among other factors. A company’s revenue is money earned from operations; market capitalization is the market value of its shares; an index weight reflects a company’s share of an index. None is interchangeable with an individual’s net worth.

Even when a founder or executive owns shares in a successful supplier, the company’s performance alone does not show the size of that person’s stake, the value of other assets or liabilities, or what portion of wealth is attributable to AI rather than earlier businesses and other factors. The material cited here does not establish current, comparable net-worth figures for named people or prove that AI hardware alone made any of them billionaires.

Wistron shows how the opportunity can extend to server makers

Wistron illustrates the expansion from electronics manufacturing into AI server systems. Fortune reported on July 28, 2026, that the company recorded $70.2 billion in revenue in 2025—more than twice the prior year—and that servers made up 70% of its 2025 sales. Those are company operating figures, not Simon Lin’s personal wealth. Fortune also reported that NVIDIA had booked capacity at Wistron’s new Zhubei server plant through 2026 at the time of its article; that report does not guarantee later results.

  • Enterprise-Grade Thermal Solution: Vapor chamber heatsink with industrial Honeywell PTM7950 thermal interface material ensures reliable cooling under sustained professional loads.

Fortune describes Wistron chair Simon Lin’s early partnership with NVIDIA and his account of preparing for changes in the business. Lin told Fortune, “Even during dark times, you need to make yourself ready for any change in the future.” The example also adds nuance to the “smiling curve” idea, attributed in Fortune’s profile to Acer cofounder Stan Shih: assembly in the middle of a supply chain can have lower margins than design or retail at its ends. That is a model, not a rule for every supplier. Moving into systems can create a higher-value business, but results still depend on investment, capacity, customers and execution. Fortune’s Wistron profile provides the company figures and account.

Partnership announcements show plans, not completed projects

In a May 18, 2025 announcement, NVIDIA said Foxconn, NVIDIA and Taiwan’s government were working on an AI factory supercomputer to be provided through Foxconn subsidiary Big Innovation Company. The announced specification called for 10,000 Blackwell GPUs, with TSMC researchers expected to use the system. These are details of the announced plan, not confirmation here that the system was completed, deployed at that size or achieved particular performance. The announcement also quoted NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang saying, “AI has ignited a new industrial revolution — science and industry will be transformed.” That is the company’s stated view, not independent evidence of market outcomes. NVIDIA’s announcement describes the project.

What can limit the gains—and how to assess a supplier

Demand is only one side of the opportunity. The OECD describes advanced foundries as costly, complex facilities that take years to build. Invest Taiwan identifies advanced packaging capacity and high-end materials as constraints. These bottlenecks can support demand for suppliers with scarce capabilities, while also requiring capital, time and successful execution before capacity translates into earnings.

  • Value-chain role: identify what the supplier actually makes or does, and whether it is a differentiated component, manufacturing service or integrated system.
  • Customer concentration and AI exposure: determine how dependent the business is on a few customers and how directly its sales depend on AI infrastructure spending.
  • Capacity and bottlenecks: assess whether the company can deliver the required manufacturing, packaging or systems volume, and what expansion will require.
  • Profitability and value capture: revenue growth does not by itself show margins or how much of the final system’s value the supplier retains.
  • Capital needs and execution: new facilities and production capacity demand investment and can take time to ramp.
  • Valuation versus expectations: a strong share-price performance can leave a company priced for continued growth. Robeco cautions that the firms have different supply-demand conditions, profitability, valuations and earnings expectations.

Robeco’s June 2026 market figures are a snapshot from that analysis, not current October 2026 quotes. Its comparisons are useful for understanding the ecosystem, not a stock recommendation or a guarantee of future performance.
