How do I get a refund for an iPhone game?
Apple handles refunds for games purchased through the App Store or Apple’s in-app purchase system through one website: reportaproblem.apple.com. The request must be associated with the Apple Account used for the transaction. You do not need to uninstall the game before submitting a request, and you should not assume that every purchase will be approved.

Submit the request at reportaproblem.apple.com
- Open reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account that bought the game.
- Open the “I’d like to” menu and select “Request a refund.”
- Choose the reason that best describes your situation, then select Continue.
- Choose the game purchase or related in-game purchase from the list.
- Submit the request. You can return to the site later to check its status.
Apple’s support instructions describe this as a request, not an automatic reversal. The reason you select helps Apple evaluate the transaction, but choosing a particular reason does not guarantee approval.
What information should you have ready?
- The Apple Account email address or sign-in details used at checkout.
- The Apple receipt or invoice, if you received one.
- The game title, purchase date and amount, especially if several transactions appear together on one bill.
If you bought the game on an iPad, Apple’s iPadOS 26 user guide gives the same basic route: sign in to reportaproblem.apple.com, choose an option from “I’d like to”, and follow the prompts to report a problem with a game downloaded from the Apple Games app. See the iPad User Guide instructions.

Can I get a refund for an App Store game?
Possibly. Apple’s current wording is conditional: “Some purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, or other Apple services might be eligible for a refund.” Eligibility can vary by country or region, so there is no worldwide rule that every game purchase qualifies.

That wording also means Apple does not publish a universal 30-day return policy for App Store games. Do not treat a 30-day period, an accidental-purchase assumption or a particular reason as a guaranteed entitlement. Apple’s decision applies to the transaction you submit.
Consumer-law protections can still apply
Apple’s guidance says customers retain protections provided by applicable consumer laws. The page specifically calls out Australia and New Zealand, but the relevant rights depend on the law where you live and the circumstances of the sale. Apple’s online eligibility decision should not be read as a replacement for those legal protections.

How long does an App Store refund take?

In practical terms, allow two separate intervals: the time until Apple tells you what happened and the later time needed for an approved refund to appear on the payment method. A message within 24 to 48 hours does not mean the credit must be visible that same day.
Why can’t I find my game purchase on reportaproblem.apple.com?
A missing item usually means you are looking under the wrong Apple Account, the charge is not finalized, several purchases were combined, or the transaction was billed by someone other than Apple. Work through these checks in order.
Find the Apple receipt or invoice
Search your email for an Apple receipt or invoice. It identifies the item purchased and the Apple Account associated with it. Use the account shown on that receipt when signing in to reportaproblem.apple.com.

Check every Apple Account used by the household
Families sometimes use more than one Apple Account on the same iPhone or iPad. Sign out only if necessary for your setup, then check each account that may have made the purchase. A game bought under a different account will not normally appear in the purchase list for the account you are currently using.

Check Family Sharing purchases
If a Family Sharing purchase was charged to the shared payment method, the family organizer can display the household’s purchases. On an iPhone or iPad, open the Apple Account menu and choose All to view the purchases associated with the shared billing arrangement. The organizer still needs to identify the specific game transaction before submitting a request.
Wait for a pending transaction to finish
A pending charge cannot yet be submitted for a refund through this flow. Wait until Apple issues the receipt, then try again. An unpaid order must also be paid before a refund request can be made.
Look for a combined bill
Apple can group multiple purchases and subscriptions into one bill. If the description on your card or bank statement does not match the game title, use the amount to locate the transaction in purchase history. The game may be one line within a larger charge rather than a separate statement entry.
Confirm who actually billed you
Some digital purchases in some countries and regions are billed outside the App Store or Apple’s in-app purchase system. If Apple does not show the transaction, identify the billing company on your receipt, bank statement or checkout confirmation. A purchase billed outside Apple must be addressed with the actual billing provider, not through Apple’s reportaproblem list.

How do I check game purchase history on an iPhone or iPad?
Apple’s current device instructions let you verify the transaction before or after opening the refund form.
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your profile photo or initials in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Apps & Purchase History.
- Tap Purchase History.
- Search by the purchase amount if the game title is difficult to spot.
The list initially filters to the last 90 days. Change the date filter when you are looking for an older purchase. Apple documents these steps in View your purchase history for the App Store and other Apple media services.
Which billing route should you use?

The distinction matters because Apple’s refund form can only evaluate transactions that appear in Apple’s billing records. A game may be played on an iPhone or iPad while payment is handled by another company.
Common situations and the right next step
The game appears in the list
Select the game, choose the reason that fits, submit the request and monitor the status. Expect an update in 24 to 48 hours, followed by additional processing time if Apple approves it.
The charge is visible on your bank statement but not in Apple history
Search for the Apple receipt, compare the amount and check other Apple Accounts. If the charge is still absent, investigate whether the purchase was billed outside Apple. Do not submit a second request for a transaction that Apple cannot identify.
The transaction is marked pending
Wait for the receipt and finalized purchase record. Apple’s refund flow does not accept a pending charge, and an unpaid order must be settled before a request can be submitted.
Several purchases share one statement amount
Open purchase history, search by amount and inspect the individual items included in the grouped bill. Select the specific game purchase rather than relying only on the wording shown by your bank.

Have the family organizer review the shared purchases and determine which Apple Account initiated the transaction. That account information is needed to locate the item and submit the request through Apple.
What to check before submitting an Apple game refund request
- Use the Apple Account that appears on the Apple receipt.
- Confirm that the transaction is completed rather than pending.
- Check the purchase date and amount in App Store purchase history.
- Review other Apple Accounts used on the device or in the household.
- For Family Sharing, ask the organizer to inspect the shared purchase list.
- Make sure Apple, rather than an outside billing provider, processed the payment.
- Choose the reason that accurately describes the problem.
- Save the submission details so you can check the request status later.
