Among Us Story: On Guard turns the familiar Crewmate setting into a single-player detective adventure. Regular Among Us is a multiplayer social-deduction game in which people hide roles, deceive one another, call meetings and vote. On Guard keeps the space-crew atmosphere, tasks and murder mystery, but replaces live-player suspicion with an authored investigation, clues and story endings.

The difference in one glance

Aspect Among Us Story: On Guard Multiplayer Among Us
Players One player 4–15 players online or through local Wi‑Fi
Player role A Crewmate serving as the ship’s Guard and security investigator A Crewmate or a secretly assigned Impostor
Main activity Complete duties, inspect evidence, follow clues and investigate a murder Complete tasks, discover bodies, hold meetings, discuss evidence, vote, sabotage or kill
Story form Authored narrative with three unique endings Emergent stories created by each group’s behavior and arguments
How a session resolves The investigation reaches a story ending Crewmates win by finishing tasks or ejecting Impostors; Impostors win by eliminating the crew and creating enough confusion
Social requirement No live group is required Discussion and deception between players are central to the game
Availability stated by Innersloth PC through Steam; Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 are planned Established online and local-Wi‑Fi multiplayer game

The shared vocabulary can make the two games sound closer than they are. Both involve Crewmates, shipboard work and a killing, but they ask the player to use completely different skills. On Guard asks you to observe a designed scenario and reason from clues. Multiplayer Among Us asks you to read other people, conceal information and decide whom to trust.

What Among Us Story: On Guard actually is

Innersloth describes On Guard as a narrative space adventure. You play a Crewmate given responsibility for shipwide security. The official June 5, 2026 reveal frames the project as a way to experience the Crewmate universe and its lore in a single-player format, rather than as another online mode.

The triggering problem is a murder aboard the ship. Your job is to carry out assigned tasks, investigate what happened, discover clues and identify who is responsible. The structure is closer to a compact detective story set in the Among Us universe than to a conventional round of the party game.

Among Us: Crewmate Edition - Nintendo Switch
  • Crewmate Edition Includes: See description below for complete details
  • Life as a Crewmate: Complete all your tasks on the ship to win but watch out for Impostors. Report dead bodies and call emergency meetings to vote the Impostors out. Hope you chose correctly
  • Play as an Impostor: Cause chaos, sneak around, and frame innocent bystanders. Winning involves killing off every Crewmate - think you’re a master of sabotage
  • Customization: Choose how you want to play. Add more impostors, tasks, decrease visibility and more. All in style as you get to choose your favorite color, outfit, and hat
  • Cross-platform: Play with your friends between PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC, Android, and iOS

That distinction matters because the investigation is authored. Locations, evidence and narrative beats are arranged by the developers, so progress comes from examining the situation and making sense of what the game presents. You are not waiting for a group of human players to invent a new lie, ambush or alliance every few minutes.

There are no Impostors in the ordinary multiplayer sense

On Guard’s official FAQ explicitly says that there are no Impostors in the game. The murder investigation still requires you to determine who caused the death, but that does not create the hidden-role system used by multiplayer Among Us. There is no standard round in which one or more players are secretly selected as Impostors, perform kills while pretending to work, then defend themselves in emergency meetings.

In practical terms, “find the killer” describes the case you are solving, not a promise that On Guard contains the normal Impostor role, vent network, sabotage menu or voting procedure.

How a multiplayer Among Us round works

Innersloth’s official description calls Among Us a party game of teamwork and betrayal. A group of 4–15 people can play online or over local Wi‑Fi. At the start of a round, players receive hidden roles. Most are Crewmates; a smaller number are Impostors.

Crewmate responsibilities

Crewmates move around a map completing assigned tasks. Tasks fill a shared progress bar, but simply doing them is not enough if an Impostor is active. Players must also notice suspicious movement, report discovered bodies and use meetings to explain what they saw.

During a meeting, players exchange claims, compare routes and timing, and vote on whether to eject someone. The group may be correct, wrong or unable to agree. A Crewmate victory comes from completing the group’s tasks or ejecting all the Impostors.

Impostor responsibilities

Impostors imitate normal work while trying to eliminate Crewmates. They can kill, sabotage ship systems, travel through vents, frame other players and bluff during discussions. Sabotage creates urgent distractions; a convincing accusation can redirect the vote away from the actual killer.

Impostors win by reducing the crew and maintaining confusion. Their success depends on timing, alibis, movement and conversation, not on following a predetermined detective plot.

The role structure changes the entire experience

On Guard gives the solo player a fixed identity: a security-minded Crewmate investigating a specific incident. The Guard role is known from the beginning, and the scenario is built around that responsibility. You are not switching between innocent and deceptive perspectives from round to round.

Multiplayer Among Us distributes uncertainty among the participants. You may be a Crewmate in one round and an Impostor in another, while every other person is making the same calculation about you. Because roles are hidden, ordinary actions acquire social meaning: taking a long route, standing near a doorway or arriving late to a repair can become evidence in an argument.

That is the central design contrast. On Guard’s tension comes from interpreting a designed mystery. Multiplayer Among Us generates tension through incomplete information shared by people who may be lying directly to you.

Tasks mean different things in the two games

Tasks exist in both experiences, but they serve different purposes.

  • In On Guard: tasks are part of the Guard’s duties and the route through the narrative. Completing them helps you progress through the ship and creates opportunities to inspect what happened.
  • In multiplayer Among Us: tasks are a communal win condition and a way for Crewmates to spend time on the map. They also give Impostors opportunities to fake participation, isolate targets or trigger a sabotage while players are occupied.

Consequently, a task in On Guard is primarily an interaction with the story world. In multiplayer, the same kind of activity is also a timing signal that other players can use to construct or challenge an alibi.

Investigation versus meetings, voting and sabotage

The solo investigation does not reproduce the social meeting loop. On Guard’s announced progression is to perform duties, find clues, identify the killer and reach an ending. The evidence is there for you to interpret inside the authored scenario.

Regular Among Us revolves around interruptions to normal work. A body report or emergency meeting pauses movement, everyone gives a version of events, and the vote changes the state of the round. Sabotage adds another layer by forcing players to respond to a crisis while the Impostor uses the disruption to create an opportunity.

  • Quickly find a game online from the host list.
  • Customization: Pick your color, hat, skin, and pet.
  • 4 different maps to play in: The Skeld, MIRA HQ, Polus, and the Airship.

This means the two games can use similar imagery—an empty corridor, a damaged system or a suspicious death—without providing the same interaction. On Guard does not turn a solo player into a one-person meeting lobby. Its detective work is handled through exploration, observation and narrative decisions rather than live debate.

Story endings and replayability

Innersloth’s reveal advertises three unique endings for On Guard. Those conclusions give the short, replayable adventure a reason to revisit the case: you can return to inspect details you missed and see how the investigation resolves under a different outcome.

The replayability of multiplayer Among Us comes from a different source. The official game description documents the role, task, meeting and sabotage systems, but it does not promise a fixed number of endings. Every round can produce a new sequence of accusations, betrayals and votes because the participants, hidden roles and decisions change.

For a solo player, On Guard offers authored variation. For a group, Among Us offers social variation. One is replaying a mystery with branching conclusions; the other is replaying a ruleset whose story is improvised by the people in the room or voice chat.

Which game fits the way you want to play?

Choose On Guard if you want

  • A single-player experience in the Among Us universe.
  • A defined protagonist role instead of a randomly assigned hidden identity.
  • Clues and an investigation you can pursue at your own pace.
  • A narrative arc with authored conclusions rather than an endless sequence of social rounds.
  • Play that does not require friends, matchmaking or a live discussion.

Choose multiplayer Among Us if you want

  • Accusations, counter-accusations and unpredictable human behavior.
  • The possibility of being either a Crewmate or an Impostor.
  • Meetings, voting, sabotage, venting and bluffing as core mechanics.
  • Short rounds whose stories change whenever the group changes its decisions.
  • A game built around online or local-Wi‑Fi participation with other people.

Neither format replaces the other. On Guard is aimed at someone who likes the setting but wants a story-led solo case. Multiplayer Among Us remains the choice when the appeal is the social experiment: can the crew identify the liar before the liar controls the conversation?

Release timing, platforms and price status

Innersloth’s current On Guard page lists PC through Steam and carries an update announcing a February 17, 2027 launch. The June 5, 2026 reveal also lists Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 as planned platforms. Those console references describe planned availability, not a statement that the console versions are already released.

The June 2026 announcement had not finalized pricing. There is therefore no confirmed price to use when comparing On Guard with the established multiplayer game. Treat any later store listing or platform date as the authoritative update for that edition.

Common misconceptions to avoid

“It is a single-player version of the normal rounds.”

No. The official reveal positions On Guard as a single-player narrative adventure, and its FAQ says there are no Impostors. It is not a bot-filled recreation of ordinary hidden-role matches.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Because there is a murder, the player must be an Impostor.”

No. The player is the Guard investigating the murder. The case may involve identifying a killer, but that does not establish the multiplayer Impostor role or its abilities.

“The three endings mean multiplayer has three endings too.”

No. The three-ending claim belongs to On Guard’s authored story. Multiplayer outcomes are determined by task progress, eliminations, votes and the rules of each round, with no fixed ending count stated by Innersloth.

“The planned Switch versions are available now.”

Not according to the cited announcement status. The current page identifies PC via Steam and gives the February 17, 2027 launch update, while Switch and Switch 2 are listed as planned platforms.

Bottom line for returning Crewmates

Among Us Story: On Guard uses familiar ingredients—Crewmates, shipboard work and a deadly mystery—but changes the question the player must answer. In multiplayer Among Us, you ask, “Which person here is lying?” In On Guard, you ask, “What happened, what do the clues show and which conclusion does this investigation reach?” Choose On Guard for a solo, narrative detective experience; choose regular Among Us for live deception, discussion and voting with other players.
