AI trip planners can turn a flexible travel idea into a shortlist of flights and hotels, but a suggestion in a chat or search result is not proof of a reservation. Use AI to explore and compare options; before paying, verify the exact itinerary or room and complete the booking with the airline, hotel, or booking platform.
What an AI trip planner can—and cannot—do
Natural-language tools can help you describe a trip in ordinary terms, then search or organize candidate options around those preferences. For example, Gemini can use public Google Flights and Google Hotels information to search flights by route, dates, airline, price ceiling, stops, party size, trip length, cabin, and one-way or round-trip status. Hotel searches can use location, dates, nights, adult guest count, currency, amenities, and a brand or description. Google’s Gemini help page documents those capabilities and their limits.

That is useful for discovery, not a substitute for checking the booking details. Gemini’s documented Google Flights and Google Hotels connection cannot book, cancel, update, or check in for a reservation, and it cannot issue saved-flight alerts. It also does not search by airline alliance or find package deals unavailable through Google Hotels. The feature requires you to be signed in with Keep Activity turned on, and is unavailable in Gemini Live chats and Gemini in Google Messages.
Google has separately announced an AI Mode hotel-booking flow rolling out in the U.S. in English through participating partners. In that flow, users review the room type and cancellation policy before completing the booking. Google says the hotel or booking platform is the merchant of record and handles customer service. How to prompt for useful options
Give the planner the constraints that would make an otherwise attractive result unusable. Be specific about dates or date flexibility, departure airport, traveler count, budget, acceptable stops and schedule, hotel area, room and guest needs, must-have amenities, and cancellation requirements. Ask it to identify what each suggestion meets and misses, and to flag details it cannot verify.
For example:
Find round-trip flight options from [origin airport] to [destination] for [dates or date range], for [number and type of travelers], with a total budget of [amount]. I need [acceptable stops, schedule, cabin, baggage or other requirements]. Show the exact airports, dates, airline, stops, fare conditions, and total price if available. Flag anything you cannot verify.
For a hotel, replace the flight details with the neighborhood or address area, dates, number of rooms and guests, room requirements, essential amenities, budget, and cancellation needs. A prompt such as “Find hotels in the [neighborhood] for [dates], for [guest count], with [must-have features] and free cancellation” is more actionable than asking for “a good hotel.”

Request a short list rather than an undifferentiated stream of ideas. Ask the tool to explain the tradeoff behind each option—for example, whether a lower fare involves a connection, an inconvenient arrival time, or restrictive fare rules, or whether a hotel is outside the preferred area or has a less flexible cancellation policy.
Compare flights on the details that affect your trip
A flight that appears cheapest may not fit your schedule or fare needs. Compare the full itinerary and the conditions attached to the ticket, not just the headline price.
- Route and dates: Confirm the exact departure and arrival airports, travel dates, and local times. Check carefully if the itinerary uses more than one airport in a city or arrives the next day.
- Stops and schedule: Verify the number and length of connections, departure and arrival times, and whether the itinerary is nonstop if that is a requirement.
- Airline and cabin: Confirm the operating airline and cabin shown for each segment, especially on itineraries involving partner airlines.
- Travelers and fare conditions: Check passenger names and details before purchase, then review baggage, seat, change, refund, and other fare rules at checkout. A result that fits a budget may still be unsuitable if required extras cost more or the fare is restrictive.
- Total price: Recheck the final price on the airline or booking platform. A displayed search price can change before purchase.
Google Travel Help warns that flight prices change often and a displayed price may differ by the time you book. Its experimental Flight Deals suggestions may also not perfectly match the traveler’s intent. Google’s Flight Deals help page explains both cautions.

Compare hotels on location, room, and terms
Hotel names and summaries can conceal differences that matter. Open the property listing and confirm the specific room and terms you would actually book.

A neighborhood name or map result alone may not tell you whether the location works for your trip.
- Dates and occupancy: Confirm check-in and check-out dates, number of nights, rooms, and guests. Make sure the rate applies to your party size.
- Room and amenities: Select the actual room type and confirm the features you require, such as beds, accessibility, or included amenities. Do not assume a property-wide amenity is included in every room or rate.
- Price and cancellation: Review the full checkout price, including taxes and fees shown by the provider, and note the cancellation deadline and any conditions for a refund.
- Reviews and fit: Use guest reviews and comparison factors as context, not as a replacement for checking the room description and booking terms.
Google says its announced AI Mode hotel flow presents guest reviews and key comparison factors and asks users to review the room type and cancellation policy before booking. Those checks remain important wherever you complete the reservation.

Google describes Flight Deals as an experimental beta search feature. Its current help page says it searches Google Flights inventory from more than 300 partners. A “Savings Deal” badge means the fare is at least 20% below Google’s typical-price benchmark for that route; the benchmark uses the median of the cheapest prices found over the previous 12 months, taking season, trip length, and cabin class into account. A “Cheap Flights” label can mean an option is among the lowest currently available without being below its typical price. These are Google’s product definitions, not proof that a fare is best for your dates or travel needs.

The tool does not support every search type: Google lists multi-city routes, certain passenger types such as infants or groups larger than four, and specific layover requests among unsupported searches. If your trip depends on one of those details, use a booking search that supports it and verify the itinerary directly.
Google launched Flight Deals in beta in the U.S., Canada, and India on Aug. 14, 2025. A later announcement on Nov. 17, 2025 described an expansion to more than 200 countries and territories and more than 60 languages; those are figures from that announcement, not a guarantee of current availability in every location. Google’s Aug. 27, 2026 Search announcement said AI Mode flight price tracking was available in more than 180 countries and territories. Product availability and coverage can change, so check what is offered where you are.
Verify and book with the supplier
- Open the booking provider’s listing. Follow the result to the airline, hotel, or booking platform that will take payment. Do not rely on a chat summary or copied itinerary for final terms.
- Recheck every critical field. For flights, verify dates, airports, schedule, passenger details, baggage and fare rules, and total checkout price. For hotels, verify the property address, dates, occupancy, selected room, taxes and fees, and cancellation deadline.
- Pause if anything is ambiguous. If a key detail is missing or inconsistent, search again or contact the airline, hotel, or booking platform before paying.
- Finish the transaction and save confirmation. Keep the supplier’s booking confirmation and note which company will handle changes, cancellations, or customer support.
Google says flight purchases through its AI Mode travel experience are completed on the airline website or a preferred booking platform. For hotels booked through that flow, the participating hotel or booking platform is the merchant of record and handles customer service. In either case, the confirmation from the supplier—not an AI-generated draft, search result, or price alert—is the evidence to keep.
What AI planning does not establish
Google’s help pages and product announcements describe features, search inputs, and booking flows; they do not establish an independent accuracy rate for AI trip planners or prove that using one reduces booking mistakes. Treat a generated option as a lead to verify, and base the final choice on the booking provider’s current itinerary, room details, price, and terms.
