Google Ads’ AI campaign localization beta creates a separate campaign for another language or region by translating campaign assets and targeting, with options for adapting image text and landing pages. It does not modify the source campaign. Before enabling the new campaign, advertisers should check the translated claims, destination pages, targeting, copied budget and bids, and policy and legal compliance.
What the localization tool does
Google describes AI campaign localization as a way to localize an eligible Search campaign for another language or region. It creates a new, independent campaign: Google Ads Help says, “The original campaign is never modified.”

The tool translates campaign text and targeting, including headlines, descriptions, sitelinks, callouts, and keywords. If an image contains text overlays, it can remove that text and provide translated messaging as supplemental text assets.

Choose how to handle the landing page
Google documents two approaches to the destination page. They are alternatives to assess against the site’s existing localization and URL structure, not a universal ranking of which method is better.
| Approach | How it works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Dynamic translation | A Google-provided JavaScript snippet dynamically translates landing-page text when a user clicks the ad. | Check that important content is translated and remains consistent with the ad, including the offer and key product information. |
| Update URLs | Change destination URLs manually or use a bulk find-and-replace rule to point to localized pages. | Verify that each URL and any replacement rule lead to the intended page for the target market. |
These landing-page choices are part of the localization workflow; they should not be confused with other Performance Max settings such as Final URL expansion.

Review translations before launch
The review table presents the original asset, its translated version, a translation back into English, and translation notes. Advertisers can edit translated text directly in the table. Google documents publication in a paused state by default, allowing time for a final review before the campaign runs. The back-translation can help expose changes in meaning, but Google’s documentation does not say it replaces review by someone familiar with the target market.

- Market fit: Check terminology, wording, and image treatment for the intended language and region. Get appropriate local review where legal or cultural context matters.
- Destination: Confirm the localized page, offer, and product information agree with the ad. For dynamic translation, look for important content that remains untranslated or becomes inconsistent.
- Targeting: Review translated keywords and other targeting elements, as well as the campaign’s language and location settings.
- Budget and bids: Google copies these values exactly from the source campaign and does not convert currencies or calculate exchange rates. Confirm the copied amounts are intentional for the destination market.
- Policy and law: Google warns that generated assets are not guaranteed to be approved. Its guidance tells advertisers to review assets for accuracy, misleading content, policy compliance, and applicable laws before publishing. See Google’s Performance Max generative AI guidance and its overview of policies that may affect Performance Max campaigns.
- Campaign and status: Confirm you are reviewing the intended new campaign, that the source campaign remains as intended, and that the localized campaign is paused or otherwise configured as you expect before launch.
Check language support and account eligibility
Google’s localization article lists English (US) as the supported source language. Its listed target languages are Dutch, French, French (Canada), German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal/European), Spanish (Castilian/Spain), and Spanish (Latin American and Caribbean). Google says additional target languages are planned by the end of 2026; that is a stated plan, not confirmation that they are already available.
The article describes the beta as supporting Search campaigns and says Performance Max support starts in September 2026. Because access may depend on eligibility and rollout, check the Google Ads account rather than assuming the feature is available.
The source campaign must be active or paused. Removed, draft, experimental, and shadow campaigns are not supported. Campaigns must stay within entity-size limits, and assets and keywords must use supported source language or languages. Google also says election-verified customers are not eligible and that campaigns containing unsupported languages cannot be localized.

Do not confuse localization with other Google Ads AI controls
AI campaign localization is a separate workflow from Performance Max generative asset creation and automated text customization.
Performance Max asset generation
In the asset-generation workflow, Google can use a website and a product or service summary to suggest or generate headlines, descriptions, images, logos, business-name assets, and video assets. Advertisers can select, edit, or discard them; using the workflow is optional. Google says generated text assets use the language of the entered landing page, so changing to a landing page in the desired language is currently required to change the generated assets’ language in that workflow. Google warns that generated assets may be inaccurate or offensive and are not guaranteed to be approved. Read Google’s instructions for building a Performance Max asset group using generative AI.
Text customization and Final URL expansion
Performance Max text customization and Final URL expansion are campaign settings, not the localization flow. With Final URL expansion, Google may select a more relevant page from a site based on a user’s search and generate matching text. Advertisers remain responsible for reviewing landing-page content and dynamically generated assets. Google documents controls for viewing or removing customized text assets and turning the feature off; see About Performance Max campaigns and Controlling text customization in Performance Max campaigns.
Text guidelines
Google also documents text guidelines in beta for Performance Max and Search campaigns with AI Max. These are campaign-level controls for refining automatically created text, with stated limitations; they do not replace review of published assets. See Google’s text-guidelines documentation.
