What AI does in a podcast workflow
AI is best understood as a set of tools used at different points in production, not as a single button that reliably turns a conversation into a finished show. A typical workflow captures audio (and sometimes video), transcribes speech, uses the transcript to find and revise sections, optionally processes the sound, then exports and uploads the episode.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Those tasks solve different problems. Transcription makes spoken material searchable; transcript-linked editing lets you work with text while changing the corresponding audio; speech enhancement attempts to alter how a voice sounds. None of those functions guarantees that the episode is accurate, natural, or ready to publish. Product descriptions establish that features are offered, not that they will work perfectly on every recording.

Spotify Support describes Riverside as a way to record audio or video, edit recordings, use AI tools, and publish episodes to Spotify. Adobe and Descript also describe recording, transcription, editing, or enhancement features in their own products. These are examples of possible workflows, not required tools or a controlled comparison of performance.

How the production process works, step by step
1. Plan the recording and choose how to capture it
Decide whether you are recording alone or talking with remote guests, and whether you need audio only or video as well. A phone or computer can be enough to capture a solo recording. For a remote conversation, a recording service may capture participants separately; separate tracks can give you more flexibility to adjust or edit each voice independently. Adobe says its Podcast Studio records individual 16-bit, 48 kHz WAV tracks. That is Adobe’s product description, not an independent assessment of sound quality.
A dedicated microphone is optional rather than a prerequisite. Capturing a clear, intelligible voice gives you a better starting point, but the available material does not establish that a particular microphone—or any particular equipment—is necessary. Start with the recording setup you have, and make a test recording so you can check that the voice is audible before committing to a full interview.
2. Record the conversation
Capture the full conversation before trying to make it sound polished. If you use a remote tool, check how it handles participants and tracks, and confirm that the recording is saved before closing the session. Keeping individual tracks, when available, helps preserve options during editing; it does not remove the need to listen to the recording.
Spotify Support identifies Riverside as an option for browser or mobile multitrack audio or video recording. Adobe describes its Podcast Studio as supporting solo recording or sessions with remote guests. Those product descriptions illustrate two ways to capture a show; they do not establish that one is better for every creator or connection.

3. Generate and organize a transcript
Automatic transcription converts speech into text that you can search and scan. Instead of replaying an entire recording to find a point, you can locate a word, name, or section in the transcript and move to its place in the audio. Adobe describes automatic transcription in Podcast Studio, while Spotify identifies Riverside and Descript as transcript-based editing options.
Treat the transcript as a navigation and editing aid, not as a definitive record of what was said. Names, specialist vocabulary, overlapping voices, and unclear speech are all reasons to compare the text with the audio. Correct errors that would affect meaning before relying on a passage for a cut, a quote, or show notes.
4. Edit content through the transcript, then listen to the cuts
In transcript-linked editing, deleting or moving words in the text can remove or reposition their corresponding audio. This can make it easier to find repeated points, long pauses, or sections that do not belong in the episode. The text view helps with navigation; listening remains essential to judge how an edit sounds.
After a cut, listen to the surrounding audio. A text edit can split a word, remove a needed qualification, change the apparent meaning of a sentence, or create an abrupt transition. Check that a speaker’s answer still responds to the question, that the sequence remains understandable, and that the transition does not sound unnatural. If the edit is unclear, restore the passage or adjust the cut rather than trusting the transcript alone.

5. Apply sound cleanup only if it helps
Speech cleanup is an optional processing step. Adobe describes an Enhance Speech feature, and Spotify’s Riverside materials describe AI tools in the creation workflow. These feature descriptions do not establish a universal improvement or guarantee that processing will suit every recording.
Listen to the original and processed versions before deciding. If enhancement makes a voice less natural or does not address the problem you hear, do not assume that using more processing will improve the episode. The goal is a clear, listenable recording—not applying an AI effect for its own sake.
6. Export a deliverable and publish through your host
Export the episode in a format accepted by the service where you intend to publish. Spotify lists MP3, M4A, WAV, MOV, MPG, and MP4 among the supported export types for preparing content for Spotify for Creators. The list includes audio and video formats; choose the type that fits the episode you made and check the destination’s current requirements before exporting.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Exporting a file and publishing it are separate actions. Once the file is ready, upload it through the podcast host’s current publishing process. Spotify Support says Spotify’s own creation tools are no longer available and directs creators to Riverside for recording and editing. Platform features and instructions can change, so check Spotify’s current support guidance rather than assuming an older workflow still applies.

Which parts of the workflow AI can—and cannot—handle
| Stage | How AI may help | What still needs a person |
|---|---|---|
| Recording | A recording service may capture audio or video and separate participant tracks. | Choose the recording setup, check the recording, and decide what content belongs in the episode. |
| Transcription | Convert speech into searchable text. | Check names, terminology, and passages where a transcription error could change meaning. |
| Editing | Use transcript text to locate, delete, or reposition corresponding audio. | Listen around edits to catch broken words, missing context, or awkward transitions. |
| Sound processing | Offer speech enhancement or other AI tools in the creation workflow. | Decide whether the processed sound is appropriate for this recording. |
| Export and publishing | Prepare a file in a format accepted by the destination. | Select the right format and use the host’s current upload and publishing process. |
This division matters because a workflow can be technically automated while still requiring human editorial judgment. The available product descriptions do not establish which tool is most accurate, fastest, or best sounding, and they do not provide controlled comparisons of price, editing speed, or audio quality. Choose based on the steps you need and how much manual control you want, then review the actual output.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose a workflow without assuming one tool does everything
Start with the production task you need to solve, not with a claim that a tool can make a complete podcast automatically. Compare options using these practical questions:
- Are you recording solo or with remote guests? Check that the recording option supports the kind of session you plan to make.
- Do you need separate participant tracks? Separate tracks can help with later editing; check whether the service records them.
- Do you want to edit by working with text? Look for transcript-based editing if searching and revising from a transcript suits your workflow.
- Do you need speech cleanup? Treat enhancement as optional and judge it by listening to your recording.
- Where will the episode be published? Confirm that the export type and publishing route work for the destination you use.
- How much direct audio control do you want? A text-focused workflow can make locating edits convenient, but you should still listen and adjust the audio when needed.
Riverside, Descript, and Adobe Podcast are examples of products whose publishers describe relevant recording, transcript-editing, or enhancement features. The feature descriptions do not support a ranking or a claim that one product will produce the best result for your show. Spotify’s own support materials also describe a changing platform workflow: it points creators to Riverside and says its native creation tools are no longer available.

Publishing a transcript without checking it
A transcript is useful for finding material, but it can misrepresent a name, a technical term, or an unclear phrase. Review the audio where the wording matters, especially before using text to make a cut or represent what someone said.

Assuming a clean text edit guarantees a clean audio edit
Removing a sentence in text can leave a clipped word or a conspicuous jump in the conversation. Play the edited passage from before the cut to after it; if the thought or transition no longer works, revise the cut or keep the original material.
Using enhancement without evaluating the result
An enhancement feature is an option, not a quality guarantee. Compare the result with the unprocessed recording and keep the version that sounds appropriate. Do not treat the mere presence of an AI feature as evidence of a better episode.
Confusing an export format with a publishing workflow
A supported file type tells you what you can prepare, not the exact steps for publishing on every platform. Check the destination’s current requirements and upload process, then make sure you are using the correct audio or video format for your episode.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →What to check before the episode goes live
Do one final review of the exported episode rather than relying only on the editing screen. A practical quality check is to listen to the finished file and confirm that it plays through, that edits sound coherent, and that the episode is the intended version. Also check that the file type matches the destination and that you have completed the host’s publishing steps. These checks address different failure points: an accurate transcript cannot confirm the final audio, and a successful export cannot confirm that the upload is correct.
The core workflow is straightforward: capture the conversation, use transcription and text-linked editing to organize it, apply cleanup only when it helps, export an accepted file, and publish through the host. AI can reduce friction in each applicable stage, but the creator remains responsible for the meaning, sound, and final review of the episode.
