A six-year-old girl’s request to use the lavatory brought her mother, Tali Manes, near the front of Flydubai flight FZ1073. Manes said she heard banging and other unusual sounds coming from the cockpit, alerted a flight attendant and urged the crew to check. Her daughter’s trip put Manes nearby; the account does not suggest Nina recognized or reported the alleged attack.
How the lavatory trip brought Manes near the cockpit
Manes said her daughter Nina asked her to accompany her to the lavatory. As they headed toward the front of the aircraft, she heard unusual noises and knocking from the cockpit and alerted a nearby flight attendant.

In a CNN interview transcript, Manes described hearing “banging on the door, something you’re not supposed to hear coming from the cockpit, noises, a man’s raised voice.” The Indian Express quoted her shouting, “Something is happening in there!” Her account then describes her warning that the co-pilot was stabbing the captain and calling for help. These are attributed recollections, not an independently settled reconstruction of every moment.

Those figures describe this reported incident, not a general aviation pattern. Associated Press: What to know about the terrifying FlyDubai flight to Israel.
How passengers and crew responded
Accounts summarized by The Indian Express and The Guardian describe several people taking part in the response: passengers helped subdue the co-pilot, while crew members and off-duty pilots regained control of the aircraft. A dentist treated the injured captain. Manes said she helped restrain the suspect with a telephone cord. The reporting describes a collective intervention rather than a rescue carried out by one person alone.

What remains unclear
Who opened the cockpit door
The accounts differ on the door. Manes said a flight attendant opened it; Captain Smit Machchhar later said he managed to open it. The Indian Express noted that investigators had not published a settled sequence. The two recollections may refer to different parts of the moment, so the available reporting does not establish a single uncontested account.
The co-pilot’s motive
The Associated Press reported that the suspect’s motivation was unknown and that the investigation was underway. The Guardian covered speculation about possible motives, but that speculation is not a final investigative finding. The alleged attack should not be treated as proof of terrorism, radicalization or a suicide motive.
