To dispatch work in Housecall Pro, create or open a job, enter the customer and service details, set its date and time, and assign an employee or route. Then use Schedule to review scheduled and unscheduled work and make changes. Your available options can vary with account features, settings, and permissions.
How to dispatch a job to an employee
- Create or open the work item. In the dashboard, select Create > Job, or open an existing job or estimate. Add or select the customer and enter the service details. The job workflow can also include line items, notes, checklists, custom fields, tags, and attachments. See Housecall Pro’s job creation guidance.
- Set the schedule. Choose the date and time, or use anytime scheduling where available. The mobile scheduling controls documented by Housecall Pro also include end time, recurrence, an arrival window, and a choice about notifying the customer for that scheduling action. See the scheduling guide.
- Assign the employee or employees. Select the technician who should receive the work. If you enter the Schedule page while creating a job, the job guide says an employee must be assigned before saving.
- Save, then review the calendar. Open Schedule and check the job in the relevant calendar view. Existing jobs and estimates can also be scheduled from their work-item page or directly from the calendar.
Use Schedule to manage dispatch
Schedule is the central calendar for jobs, estimates, events, and unscheduled work. Choose a view that matches the dispatch task: Dispatch, employee-oriented views, or schedule, day, week, Monday–Friday, and month views. Filters and team calendar controls can narrow the calendar by team member, tag, or unassigned status. Housecall Pro’s Schedule guide describes these calendar options.

- Find work that has not been scheduled: use the calendar’s unscheduled-work area and move the item onto the calendar when ready.
- See anytime jobs: Dispatch view displays anytime jobs across business hours.
- Change an assignment: open the work item and edit its employee assignment. For a standard job without appointments or recurrence, the scheduling FAQ says to edit dispatched employees in Line items. For appointment and recurring-job assignments, use the Appointments section.

Choose direct employee assignment or route scheduling
Direct employee assignment suits dispatchers who assign each job to individual technicians. Route scheduling organizes work around a route and its assigned employees. It can be useful when territories, recurring service patterns, or team coverage are stable, but it is not required for every business.

Turn on and use routes
- Go to Settings > Schedule and enable Schedule with routes, if the option is available in your account.
- Create route templates with a name, color, and assigned employees.
- Assign jobs, estimates, or events to a route from the work item or calendar. Work assigned to a route includes that route’s employees.
- For a temporary staffing change, edit the route for that day rather than changing its template.
Housecall Pro’s route scheduling guide documents route assignment and calendar organization; it does not establish that routes automatically optimize drive time. Availability and permissions may differ by account.
How online bookings reach the dispatch calendar
Housecall Pro documents two online-booking scheduling modes. With Manual scheduling, a booking goes into the Point of Contact employee’s schedule and is then dispatched to the appropriate technician. With Auto-scheduling, bookings can go directly into assigned employees’ schedules. Assigning more than one employee
The scheduling FAQ describes assigning multiple employees to one job, but not a formal crew setup in the feature set it covers. Where multiple team members are assigned, the first employee shown on the Schedule page is treated as the lead in the contexts described by that FAQ. Route templates may help organize work around a stable group, but the route guide does not describe them as a crew-management feature.
