Capcom says Resident Evil Requiem passed six million worldwide sales, while Konami reports milestones for SILENT HILL f and the SILENT HILL 2 remake. Those publisher-reported results show that these legacy series remain commercially significant and creatively active.
Are horror games making a comeback?
There is clear evidence of renewed activity in two major franchises, rather than a comparable measure of a category-wide comeback. Resident Evil has a new 2026 entry and planned additional content; Silent Hill has a recent new entry and two projects in development. The figures below come from the publishers, and their accounting measures differ. They establish momentum for these series, not a ranking of the whole horror-game market.

What are the biggest horror game series?
“Biggest” depends on the measure: lifetime sales, a recent launch, or current development activity. Capcom reports Resident Evil cumulative sales of 213.0 million units as of June 30, 2026. Konami’s cited announcements give recent milestones for Silent Hill, but they do not provide a directly comparable lifetime total. The evidence supports calling both major, active horror franchises; it does not establish a definitive cross-franchise ranking.

What is the latest Resident Evil game?
Resident Evil Requiem
As of Capcom’s March 16, 2026 announcement, the latest released entry is Resident Evil Requiem, which launched February 27, 2026. Capcom lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. It describes the series as survival horror, where players use weapons and items to survive dangerous situations. Capcom also says it plans ongoing support and additional game content for Requiem. These are publisher-reported plans, not a schedule or promise of specific content. Putting the sales figures in context
Capcom’s game-series page gives the newer cumulative Resident Evil figure: 213.0 million units as of June 30, 2026. Its Requiem announcement separately says the series had exceeded 183 million units as of December 31, 2025. Those figures have different dates; use the June 2026 total for the current cumulative scale. Capcom also reported that Resident Evil accounted for more than half of its total unit sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, and that catalog sales remained strong. Is Silent Hill back?
Konami’s recent releases and announced projects show the franchise is active again, though they do not establish a release date for its next games. SILENT HILL f is a psychological-horror game set in Japan, released September 25, 2025. Konami lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Games, and Microsoft Store. How do the two franchises differ?
- Horror style: Capcom characterizes Resident Evil as survival horror built around using weapons and items to survive dangerous situations. Konami describes SILENT HILL f as psychological horror.
- Current activity: Resident Evil has a 2026 release and planned additional content for that title. Silent Hill has a 2025 release, plus an announced remake and Townfall in development.
- Platform information: The platforms listed in the publishers’ cited announcements are those stated above; availability can change by region and storefront.

Which horror game series should I play?
Choose by the kind of horror you want, rather than the milestone totals. If you prefer survival horror focused on managing weapons and items in dangerous situations, Resident Evil fits that description. If psychological horror is more appealing, Konami identifies SILENT HILL f in those terms. The publishers’ announcements confirm platform lists, but not local store availability, so check the storefront for your region before buying.
