A teenager investigating a vanished family
Hope returns from school to find her apartment ransacked and both of her parents missing. Instead of placing the player in the role of a professional detective, the story centers on a 17-year-old trying to understand what happened to her family.

Sketches are part of the investigation
Hope is an artist, and drawing is a core investigative tool. Players sketch clues, preserve observations and connect related insights. Those links produce breakthroughs, making the act of noticing and interpreting details central to progress rather than a purely decorative visual feature.
Creative Director Judith Cheung described the goal as creating “a different kind of mystery, where observation, curiosity and creativity are your greatest tools,” set in a part of Northeast China that is rarely represented in games.

Setting and development
The story takes place in Shenyang, China, giving the investigation a specific Northeast Chinese setting rather than an interchangeable fictional city. Hope in the City is developed by Lofty Sky Entertainment Inc.; the listed publishers are Lofty Sky Entertainment Inc. and NAGA Games.
The location matters to the premise because the game’s mystery is tied to Hope’s everyday environment, family life and the clues she encounters there. The available material does not establish the full size of the explorable area or the complete length of the campaign.

- Open Steam during the October 19–26, 2026 festival window.
- Search for Hope in the City and open its game page.
- Select the demo option shown on the listing and install it.
- Play the available preview, paying attention to how sketches and connected observations reveal new leads.
- Check the same listing for updated availability, language information and the full-release date, since festival pages can change.
What the demo can—and cannot—answer
- It can show: the game’s narrative tone, Shenyang setting, sketch-based evidence system and the way clues are connected.
- It may not show: the complete disappearance mystery, every location, the full cast or the final resolution.
- It should not be treated as: confirmation that the final game will have identical content, performance or interface details; the festival build is an updated preview.
What to watch before buying or subscribing
Players deciding between the demo, a Steam purchase and Xbox access should verify three items near release: whether the November 11 date has changed, which Xbox editions are included in Game Pass, and whether the demo’s supported languages and save behavior carry into the final version. The currently available information confirms the core platforms and reported subscription launch, but it does not provide final pricing, campaign length or a complete language list.
